Bertone takes over from Zagato.
The Canto was rejected

April 1999 marked the day that Automobili Lamborghini SpA finally got to their senses and they contacted the Bertone Design Studio's to design the eagerly awaited successor to the Diablo super car.
A contract was signed stating Bertone will design a prototype for the new Diablo, this car should be completely ready to be shown to the public at the 2001 Geneva Auto Show, so the Diablo will remain available for at least another 2 years.
After Bertone successfully designed the Diablo GT, the Lamborghini management decided to reject the Canto prototype from Zagato and try a completely new attempt from Bertone.

Bertone will also design the Jalpa successor, the Canto will not be used to go into production and a completely new design will emerge from Bertone, they will design two different smaller engined Lamborghini cars, both powered by an Audi derived twin turbo charged V-8 engine, the V-10 engine won't be used either.

At this time nothing is known about these designs but when Bertone is in charge everything should get back in line with the previous Lamborghini designs, we'll just have to wait and see what will happen.
