| The Lamborghini Jalpa : major competitors. | ||

|
It took Lamborghini two years to built a successor to the Silhouette but the Jalpa
was allowed to be sold in the U.S. and it showed, over 400 cars were sold against
the mere 52 of the Silhouette. The Jalpa was much improved over the Silhouette but
so did the competition which by now flooded the market. Starting as always with the Ferrari cars, they had two cars to rival the Jalpa, the Ferrari Mondial Cabrio and the Ferrari 328 GTS. The Chevrolet Corvette was an important rival on the U.S. market, but also the Lotus Esprit Turbo and the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabrio were big competitors to the Jalpa. On a slightly different scale the BMW M635 CSI and the Mercedes 500 SL were available, but also the U.K. built Jaguar XJ-SC was considered a competitor to the Jalpa. |
