A first look at the new Lamborghini Spider prototype.

With all the talk about the new L140 model from Automobili Lamborghini, we would almost forget about another model the factory will be introducing during 2003, if they maintain the foreseen schedule that is.

After the introduction of the L140, the design department will go back to be working on the Murcielago Spider edition, according to Mr Greco, Lamborghini still intends to introduce one new model or type each year, and the open-top version of the Murcielago is eagerly awaited.

The image seen here is unfortunately only a rendering of what could become the new Murcielago Spider, or Roadster, a name hasn't been fixed yet, but with the Diablo Roadster, one could expect the Murcielago to use another designation.
On this design a special construction for the engine cover is used, with twin roll-over bars sitting behind the headrests, and a transparent engine cover to be able to admire the magnificent V12 engine. Note that this type of engine cover is already available in the United States as an aftermarket option, very nice ...

To set the Murcielago Spider apart from the closed coupe version, new wheels in a monoblock design have been mounted, closer

to the Countach style but still very up to date.

We will however all have to wait until the factory introduces the actual Murcielago model with a removeable roof section to see what it will really look like, but it's always nice to see an impression of 'what could be ...', just like the photo a German car magazine, Auto Motor und Sport, published some time ago, a Murcielago 'targa' edition.
These photo's are all very nice but probably nothing like what we'll be able to see on the road in the near future.
