We all knew it would be inevitable … with the Gallardo being discontinued and the Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 taking over the V10 reign it would only be a matter of time before the Blancpain Super Trofeo race car would evolve into the new model range too … and on May 29th 2014 Automobili Lamborghini SpA confirmed the fact they are developing an Huracán LP610-4 Super Trofeo race car in their own Squadra Corse department.

Squadra Corse is Lamborghini’s in house design center for race cars, so it makes sense they will look into creating a track version of the very successful Huracán. With Giorgio Sanna at the head of this department and being the chief test driver for R&D at Automobili Lamborghini SpA you would think this project would be kept as secret as possible … think again … development of an Huracán Super Trofeo will be executed with a lot of help.

For starters Lamborghini asked Fabio Babini and Adrian Zaugg to become test drivers for the new V10 Super Trofeo car during the development, not only because they already proved themselves in the actual Blancpain Super Trofeo series, Babini has been the European Super Trofeo Champion twice by the way, while Zaugg competed for top positions in the 2012 series … so they know how a race car should behave on the track.

Which is why Lamborghini selected the Piero Taruffi track in Vallelunga for their Squadra Corse development program, the Vallelunga track offers a near perfect mix of sections to show technical superiority while the long straight allows for high speed aerodynamic testing … let the Bull roar!

And that’s not even the whole team … Lamborghini’s Young Drivers Program offers the possibility for Super Trofeo drivers of 26 years old and younger to participate in the development of this new Raging Bull for the Blancpain Super Trofeo series.

Names like Andrea Amica, Giacomo Barri, Alberto Cerqui, Alberto di Folco, Jeroem Mul, Andrew Palmer, Eduardo Piscopo, Charlz Ro, Gerhard Tweraser, Giovanni Venturini, Alberto Viberti and Mirko Bortolotti will all drive an Huracán LP610-4 Super Trofeo car during the testing and development stage to offer valuable feedback from real life driving by actual race car pilots.

We all expect a Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Super Trofeo to grow some serious aerodynamic add-ons to increase down force, central locking lightweight wheels and race slicks will be mounted too while most of the glass will be replaced too, those nice sliding sections on the side windows will appear along the way … but one thing seems to remain from the base car … the horsepower output.

If we read the press release correctly they name it the Huracán LP610-4 Super Trofeo race car, which means it will keep the 610hp output from the V10 engine … no power increase for the new Super Trofeo race car it seems.

If we will be able to admire a Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo race car in the 2014 Blancpain series remains to be seen, but it is obvious the new V10 Lamborghini will be competing in the 2015 series next year, most likely alongside the current Gallardo based car as some teams might not be able to invest in the new model straight from the start … which will probably be a very interesting series … having both Gallardo and Huracán Super Trofeo race cars competing side by side …
