The Lamborghini Aventador has been selling steadily since the introduction back in 2011, to date over 5,000 units have been sold shattering the record of the Murciélago that reached 4,099 units during her lifespan, even in the first six months of 2016 the V12 flagship managed to be delivered to 643 owners.
Over time we have seen the Aventador Roadster being added to the line up in late 2012, after that the 50th Anniversary celebration model Aventador LP720-4 (only 100 built in Coupé and 100 in Roadster form) was unveiled in 2013 while the top of the line LP750-4 Superveloce was shown in 2015, only 600 Coupé would be built together with 500 Roadster.
And that doesn't even include the really rare ones like the one of a kind Aventador J, or the Veneno (4 units, 3 sold) and Veneno Roadster (10 units, 9 sold) ... and how about the latest celebration model unveiled at Geneva this year, the Centenario LP770-4 for the 100th anniversary of Ferruccio Lamborghini. 20 Coupé and 20 Roadsters to be built ... all based on the Lamborghini Aventador in the end.
To keep the momentum going Automobili Lamborghini SpA has been expected to prepare a mid-life facelift edition of their V12 flagship, just like they did with the Murciélago by introducing the LP640 version and the Gallardo with the LP560-4 evolution ... and it seems this Aventador 2.0, FL or Facelift is just about ready to be unveiled onto the market as a test mule of an updated Aventador Roadster has been caught testing on the open road under heavy camouflage.
But even with that black and white swirling vinyl wrap we can recognize most of the styling we can expect on the new, updated Aventador rather easily ... and the much more aggressive design is obvious from every angle.
The new front bumper looks inspired by the Superveloce edition, with a new horizontal fin but with different air intakes on the outer extremities ... in fact it looks like there are small, vertical intakes added inside the larger, triangular intake while extra intakes can be seen next to the horizontal fin, at first glance the headlights remain the same this time.
On the side it is obvious a fin is added as a side sill which is a novelty on the Aventador, we've seen something like this before on the Gallardo Superleggera for instance, but not yet on the V12 flagship model, also note the air intake behind the doors in front of the rear wheels looks a lot bigger and more aggressively shaped on this test mule ... the fixed air intakes on the shoulders look like the ones seen on the Superveloce ... probably the engine needs more air as it will deliver more power compared to the original LP700-4 she will replace.
At the rear more change can be found, first up is that amazing trio of exhausts fitted inside a new surround inside a modified diffuser, complete with vertical fins for stability and additional air vents for extra cooling. The taillights look unchanged as does the adjustable rear wing.
Normally the updated Lamborghini Aventador will come with rear wheel steering as seen on the Centenario, most likely the interior will also receive the large display from this celebration model, but the big question is probably how much extra power this new V12 will deliver.
Most likely the new Aventador will deliver at least 730 hp making her an LP730-4, a little more than the special edition LP720-4 but not as much as the Veneno or Superveloce with 750 hp, it is also very unlikely there will be any hybrid power added to the Aventador at this moment, this is probably reserved for the successor in a few years ... but what if Lamborghini goes all the way and brings us an Aventador LP800-4 as a facelift model? That would really be impressive, a naturally aspirated engine pumping out 800 hp without the aid of turbochargers ... that would be a true Lamborghini ... raw and brutal.
When will we be seeing the facelift, updated Aventador without camouflage ? Who knows ... Paris 2016, Geneva 2016 or even Frankfurt 2017 ... keep in mind there is also a Huracan Superleggera in the pipeline too, which also deserves the spotlights at a major car show.
