In early September 2016 Automobili Lamborghini SpA together with YAC, Young Architects Competitions launched a request to design a new Road Monument that would be placed at the entry of Sant'Agata to mark how important Lamborghini is for the region.
Today two different companies have been designated as the winners of the competition, both originally from Italy, ACQ Studio and 0.9 will receive the 12,000 Euro price money for their concepts that will be built and installed at the entry of Sant'Agata, Bologna.
ACQ Studio from Livorno came up with a very impressive, minimalistic design that rises high into the sky in a gold finished, angular design to mimic the Lamborghini shield, the geometric shapes and intersection remind us of the design language used for the supercars themselves.
0.9 is now based in London but originated from Milan, they put together a silhouette of a Lamborghini car using vertical, metal sections ... as you will drive by this monument the form changes, just like when a Lamborghini car passes you.
The competition was a massive success, over 500 entries were received from all over the world, 25% of which came from Italy, 29% from other countries in Europe, 20% from the United States, another 20% from Asia and 4% from Oceania with the final 2% from Africa.
As stated in the official press release : "The contest was sponsored by the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Metropolitan City of Bologna, the municipality of Sant’Agata Bolognese, the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and Unindustria Bologna, and had the benefit of an exceptional international jury. Four internationally famous architectural practices, such as Zaha Hadid Architects, Studio Fabio Novembre, Studio Libeskind and Foster + Partners, judged the entries alongside Francesco Dal Co, Editor of «Casabella», Giuseppe Cappochin, President of the Italian Professional Association of Architects, Annalisa Trentin from the University of Bologna, Stefano Domenicali, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, and Mitja Borkert, Director of Lamborghini Centro Stile."
