The final race of the 2012 Blancpain Super Trofeo series was held in Spain, on the famous Navarra track in Los Arcos … and when all the dust settled again the 2012 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo champion was known : Cédric Leimer driving the Autovitesse race car from Garage R. Affolter already gained enough point from the first race to claim the title.

Keeping mind Mr Leimer only accumulated four years of race experience before, this is a very nice accomplishment … and claiming the title for the second time is just the icing on the cake.

Usually the ending of the season and claiming a championship title would be all you need, but as usual Automobili Lamborghini SpA took it all one step further … or should I say: a giant leap further:

Stephan Winkelmann, CEO and president of Automobili Lamborghini SpA was joined by Maurizio Reggiani, R&D director and Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, to talk about how the Blancpain Super Trofeo series grew over the last years, not only the number of competitors went up, but there is now also a Super Trofeo series in Asia … and with the amateur option it is possible for guests and VIP to gain first-hand experience behind the wheel of an actual V10 race car.

And it got even better during the press conference given in the Atalaya Centre right at the Navarra race circuit … a brand new MY2013 Gallardo LP570-4 Blancpain Super Trofeo race car was shown based on the recently unveiled new styling for the Gallardo LP560-4 as seen in Paris two weeks ago.

The diagonal lines at the front and rear made their appearance on the 2013 Super Trofeo race car, but that’s about all that remained, we seen a brand new, massive rear wing that borrowed the supports from the Aventador J shown in Geneva back in March … the wing now ‘hangs’ from two struts, from the photos it seems the engine cover remained the same.

A bit lower we seen a massive diffuser with large vertical stabilization fins, on this car the tips are red, as if they just cut through the competition, furthermore two large air vents are cut in the bodywork behind the rear wheels, covered by a large structure making the rear of the 2013 Super Trofeo race car look more angular.

The side sills are still widened to increase pressure under the car while up front we get a deeper front spoiler on the new ‘diagonal’ style bumper, again on the side we have a large air outlet with additional fins to increase down force up front, a total of three fins on both sides keep the front wheel in contact with the track at all speeds.

Now take a closer look at the front hood … yes, you are seeing it right … there are two triangular air vents in place now. Didn’t we see something similar on the Sesto Elemento concept car?

I for one really like the looks of the new 2013 Super Trofeo race car, it looks even more aggressive compared to the earlier model based on the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, there are no technical details yet, but I’m sure it will be ever so powerful as the ‘old’ car … and with this facelift we can expect the 2013 season to become really interesting.
