A celebration of this close relationship is currently being offered by Automobili Lamborghini SpA in the form of the Aventador LP700-4 Pirelli Edition, available as a Coupé and as a Roadster it is the latest testament in a long and unbroken story of Italian collaboration.

Now Lamborghini offeres another possibility to owners and enthusiasts to acquire some products from the new ‘Automobili Lamborghini powered by Pirelli Design’ collection … the partnership between Lamborghini and Pirelli Design wants to offer innovative clothing and footwear to showcase the combination of technology, elegance and Italian-made quality to ‘premium’ customers.

Calzatura Lamborghini PZero are a pair of simply amazing looking moccasins, driving shoes with a rubber sole to mimic the pattern of the famous Pirelli PZero tire, a combination of leather and brushed calf-leather with the Raging Bull crest make these a must have item … at €303 a pair.

The Giubbotto Lamborghini PZero is a black jacket made from soft lambskin and nylon to create an ‘all-seasons’ lightly padded coat, naturally the sleeve shows the Raging Bull logo with proud while the back received stunning stitching in a quilted pattern taken from the super sport cars from Sant’Agata, priced at €1,029.

Polo Lamborghini PZero is a mercerized cotton piquet item with a ribbed inlaid collar in a two-tone gray shade, here the Lamborghini shield is made from rubber in a 3D design, very nicely adding the Pirelli touch … listed at €123

The windshield pillars, roof, shoulder intakes and engine cover (with the usually optional glass louvers as standard on this Pirelli Edition) are finished in black, either matte or glossy, and come complete with a thin red line running from front to back, a nice Pirelli script is featured just behind the windshield. The same red line is also present on the black exterior rear view mirrors and on the lower part of both the front and rear air vents.

The black Alcantara upholstery continues this red shade inside, with bespoke stitching and red piping on the seats and headliner, while the seats also receive both the Lamborghini crest and the Pirelli script embroidered in contrasting red, the door panels and the sides of the seats receive leather inserts to create a more special feeling while a ‘Pirelli Serie Speciale’ plaque will be fitted to each of these Bulls that leave the assembly line.

As this is a special series the number of exterior shades has been limited by Automobili Lamborghini SpA, depending which finish you opt for the roof when you go for a matte black roof you can select from a list of glossy finished paints, being Giallo Spica, Rosso Mars, Bianco Isis, Nero Aldebaran, Grigio Liqueo, and Grigio Ater but when you prefer a glossy black roof the rest of the body will receive a satin matte finish, more specifically either Bianco Canopus, Nero Nemesis, Grigio Adamas and Grigio Titans.

The very special design touches added to the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Pirelli Edition have been created by the Lamborghini Centro Stile in fact while the rest of the V12 has remained more or less the same, power output is still a healthy 700hp going into an all-wheel drive transmission with race inspired pushrod suspension resulting in a maximum speed of 350km/h and an acceleration from 0 to 100Km/h (0-62Mph) of only 2.9 seconds.

This brand new special series can be ordered from your local dealership as of today with delivery foreseen by the summer of 2015.

So it made perfect sense for Pirelli to accommodate the official press conference from Automobili Lamborghini SpA on the 50° Anniversario Grande Giro right at the Pirelli Foundation in the Bicocca region of Milan … throughout the last fifty years just about every production Lamborghini had Pirelli tires fitted straight from the factory resulting in a very close working relationship between the two Italian companies.

Talking about the classic Cinturato HS tire keep in mind it not only came as factory fitment on the early GT like the 350GT, 400GT, Islero, Jarama and even the large Espada … but the sensuous Miura also came with these HS tires, albeit in the new CN72 generation.

Later on the beautiful Lamborghini Miura SV needed wider tires with a lower side wall so the CN73 got selected while the low and wide Countach S and Quattrovalvole models received the new Pirelli P7 tires, a very low profile tire with amazing road holding capacities … the Countach 25th Anniversary model was the first Lamborghini to use the new Pirelli P-Zero tires back in 1988.

At some point Lamborghini even had Pirelli create custom tires just for them … remember the massive LM002 SUV off road Bull? The Pirelli Scorpion tires in massive 325/65 VR 17 size were developed specifically on request from Lamborghini for this model … these tires had to be able to withstand high speed on a rather heavy car so the side walls got reinforced with Kevlar and these Scorpions even offered run-flat capabilities.

The first ‘competition’ alliance between Lamborghini and Pirelli was the entry of an LM002 into the legendary Paris-Dakar race, but the cooperation didn’t stop there … even today both companies are still working very closely together, all cars in the Blancpain Super Trofeo Series are running Pirelli tires during the competition while the current production models (Gallardo and Aventador) also use the well-known Pirelli P-Zero tires.

In fact the Aventador Roadster is rolling on bespoke P-Zero tires, created in close collaboration between engineers from both companies, these new tires have been developed to be able to cope with the performance the Aventador offers by using structures built with special materials while a firmer compounds will be used. The deformation of the tire has been minimized while high performance and rolling characteristics are guaranteed in all usage conditions the four-wheel drive system can inflict.

The tires are produced at Pirelli’s state of the art production facility near Turin, in Settimo Torinese using Pirelli’s unique ‘Next Mirs’ technology, the latest evolution of Pirelli’s fully robotized tire production process. Tire compounds are precisely mixed thanks to the CCM (Continuous Compound Mixing) system: the most advanced compound mixing process on the market, also used for producing motorsport tires.

A Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce and two Gallardos – an LP 560-4 Spyder and the latest limited edition, rear-wheel drive LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni ? chauffeured some of the best known celebrities from music and show business to the event, including English model and socialite Lady Victoria Hervey, and songwriter, singer and twice Brit Award winner James Blunt and his companion. Blunt’s album ‘Back to Bedlam’ has sold 11 million copies worldwide and topped the charts in 18 countries.

For the occasion, all three Lamborghinis sported a special feature: hidden LED lights which, positioned under the wheel arches, illuminated the tyres in homage to the Milan-based tyre company.

The long-standing partnership between Lamborghini and Pirelli, both leaders in the automotive industry, focuses on technologically advanced solutions such as specific tyres to match Lamborghini sportscars’ extreme power and performance.

Lamborghini and Pirelli’s partnership extends to motorsport: Pirelli is the only official supplier of both the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo one-make series and of the Lamborghini Academy, which organises Lamborghini driving courses on prestigious international racetracks.

Recently, the partnership has also been documented on film: made by Pirelli in 2007 and widely available on the Internet, the short feature stars a yellow Gallardo, clad in Pirelli PZero tyres, driven on Los Angeles streets by actress Uma Thurman escaping from an ambush.
