The 2022 Lamborghini Urus Evo looks mean in matte black

It seems Automobili Lamborghini SpA is getting closer to unveiling the next generation of their Super SUV, the Urus, we’ve published an article on a test mule in the snow a while ago, but this time it seems there is no to very little camouflage on this matte black Urus, which might be called the Urus Evo or the Urus Sport, or Sportivo, it seems Lamborghini is still testing this car in freezing temperatures, so they must be almost ready for this one to enter production, we’ve been waiting for a mid-life facelift on the popular Urus for a while now.

It is still uncertain if this specific Lamborghini Urus test mule is the facelift model or a more potent Sport version, this uncertainty is derived from the fact there are quite a few interesting differences between the current production model and this black prototype, for one there are large air vents cut into the engine cover, which might mean this is a model with increased power, and that would also explain why the front bumper now has additional vertical intakes at either side, which remind me of the Sián front fenders to a certain extend.

And no, I’m sure those rectangular LED lights inside the grille won’t make it into the production model eventually, but these photos also show that the front bumper received a different design if you look closely at those rather special y-shaped insets that could be color-coded to the body on the current Urus aren’t there anymore, personally, I would have always kept those in black to avoid attention, but that’s just me I guess. What does strike me as odd is the fact that once again Lamborghini went for a spoke wheel design that has been used on the original Urus test mules several years ago … perhaps these are lightweight wheels for a ‘Sportivo’ edition?

At first glance, it doesn’t seem as if the side sills nor the lower rear diffuser are any different from the current Lamborghini Urus, and the snow on the rear of this test mule does cover it up, but the rear bumper, underneath the hatch, does feature a slightly different design compared to the Urus we know today, however, the most eye-catching difference is another pair of vertical air vents on either side of the rear bumper, behind the wheels, they do look very different from the ones we find on the Urus now, it also seems this test mule is fitted with the Akrapovic exhaust system.

So are we looking at the next generation Lamborghini Urus, or is this a Urus Sportivo instead? With the vents on both front and rear bumper combined with those on the engine cover, I don’t think this is the Urus Ibrido yet, and while it’s difficult to judge from these photos without a reference besides her, would it be a wide-body version from the factory? Whichever the case, I’m sure we’ll be seeing an official press release from Automobili Lamborghini SpA any time soon, and this mystery will be solved …
