How Lamborghini's Racing Academy Turned Two Junior Drivers Into Factory Stars for 2020

Squadra Corse's 2020 roster rewarded its own pipeline with two internal promotions.

Giacomo Altoé and Albert Costa earned induction as official Lamborghini factory drivers alongside reconfirmed veterans Andrea Caldarelli, Marco Mapelli, Dennis Lind, Franck Perera, and Giovanni Venturini.

Two paths through the Squadra Corse ladder

Altoé, a nineteen-year-old from Veneto who won the 2018 Super Trofeo Europe and World Final, and Costa, a thirty-year-old Barcelonan who started on motorbikes before switching to karting at age nine, reached factory status through very different careers but the same internal program.

From one-make series to GT3 machinery

The Squadra Corse ladder moves drivers from the Super Trofeo one-make series through the GT3 Junior Driver program, and winning the right races can lead directly to GT3 machinery, factory backing, and a seat in GT World Challenge Europe or the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

The next graduates already advancing

Dutch driver Danny Kroes earned a supported GT3 entry in the Italian GT after winning the 2019 Super Trofeo Europe, while Danish driver Frederik Schandorff secured the World Champion title at the World Final in Jerez de la Frontera and moved to GT World Challenge Asia for 2020.

A pipeline built to promote from within

The Squadra Corse ladder is designed not as an arrive-and-drive customer program but as a system to identify and promote professional-caliber racers who will represent Lamborghini in the most competitive GT championships on the calendar.
