Maurizio Reggiani receiving his honorary degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bologna

The Engineer Behind 160 Patents and Five Iconic Lamborghinis Earns Bologna's Rarest Honor

The University of Bologna awarded Maurizio Reggiani an honorary degree in Mechanical Engineering — the first in that discipline since Enzo Ferrari, 62 years earlier.

On April 14, 2023, the University of Bologna presented Maurizio Reggiani with an honorary degree in Mechanical Engineering in the Santa Lucia auditorium before nearly 500 guests — the first time it conferred this specific distinction since honoring Enzo Ferrari 62 years earlier.

Five production Lamborghinis, one technical leader

Reggiani's influence spans the Murciélago, Gallardo, Aventador, Huracán, and Urus, and his work in composite materials contributed to more than 160 patent filings — earning him the Five Diamond Engineering Award, the Innovation Award for the Huracán Performante, and two Caschi d'Oro awards for motorsport.

A legacy that compounds

The engineering infrastructure, patent portfolio, and academic partnerships that underpin every current Lamborghini model trace back to decisions Reggiani made over fifteen years as CTO — a foundation that does not disappear when the title changes.
