Lamborghini SC63 LMDh prototype in black livery carving through a turn at Imola during its maiden on-track test

The SC63's First 1,500 Kilometers at Imola Promised a New Era. Then Reality Arrived.

Lamborghini's LMDh prototype logged promising mileage in August 2023, but the program's trajectory would prove far more turbulent than anyone anticipated.

Factory drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli, and Daniil Kvyat accumulated 1,500km over two days at Imola, calibrating everything from the bespoke Squadra Corse engine to gearshift mapping on the standardized Xtrac gearbox.

A bespoke racing engine signals a new level of commitment

The SC63's hybrid powertrain, combining the first racing engine developed entirely in-house by Squadra Corse with standardized LMDh hybrid components, represented the racing parallel to Lamborghini's road-car shift toward electrification.

From dual-championship ambitions to a full pause

Lamborghini confirmed it would not race the SC63 in 2026, after already scaling back from WEC and IMSA to solely IMSA's five-race Michelin Endurance Cup for 2025, as costs and complexity escalated beyond what the brand could justify.
