We also heard rumors about the Aventador successor being unveiled at the end of 2021 already, with first customer cars being delivered in early 2022, now that sounds to be very soon if we take into consideration they are building the Aventador SVJ right now, together with the Sian customer cars, and no Sian Roadster has even been built for a customer yet, while we know some SVJ Roadster are being built as late as June 2021.

So a timetable where the Aventador successor gets unveiled in late 2021 might mean they will have to rush getting all ordered Aventador SVJ and Sian ready before August 2021, they could then convert the assembly line for the new V12 model, and have customer cars being assembled as early as 2022 … keep in mind Lamborghini still has its prototype and pre-series vehicle development area, which was opened in 2012, and could be building the pre-production V12 Hybrid model before the assembly line takes over.

And while we have heard rumors about a power output near, or above the magic 1,000 hp mark, there is no news about styling yet, and while admiring the one-off Lamborghini SC20 I remembered Lamborghini’s first ‘few-off’ special model, the Reventón … which as we all know showed several design elements that would be used on the new Aventador a few years later. So what if the SC20 also shows a design we will be seeing again on the Aventador successor.

We already saw in an interview with Mitja Borkert, the Lamborghini Sian was not a preview of the Aventador successor, not as a design, the combination of the V12 with electric power will be further developed for the upcoming V12 model, but its design would not be related to the Sian, but nobody said anything about the new SC20, which was created by Squadra Corse, but designed by Centro Stile … so why wouldn’t they take inspiration from this stunning, topless car, to create the next generation of V12 from Sant’Agata.

All they need to do is add a roof and make the design less aggressive … you can’t have the new V12 Hybrid Lamborghini look like a racecar right from the start, perhaps later one when they release even more powerful versions, but the initial model surely doesn’t need a massive rear wing and exposed carbon fiber.

So for the new V12 Hybrid, Aventador successor, I removed the rear wing, removed the air vents in front of the windshield, naturally added a roof, and changed the design of the engine cover, also a set of different wheels would be needed to make this the first edition of the new Lamborghini V12 flagship for 2022.

And we all know there will eventually be a Roadster version of the Aventador successor too, so I created a view of that model too, will a full-height windshield and naturally the possibility of having removable roof panels … Lamborghini just needs a convertible V12 model in their lineup.

And that’s not all … every V12 flagship gets a more powerful version down the line, so it might be several years into the future, but there will surely be a Super Veloce, or SV version of the Aventador successor down the line … at which point the large rear wing and aggressive styling make its comeback.

Just like the SC18 back in 2018, this new SC20 seems to be a one-off build for a fortunate customer, this time based on the Aventador SVJ, the V12 in the SC20 is rated at 770hp, and if we break it down the SC20 is a restyled, topless version of the SC18, and it looks stunning.

Some styling from the SC18 is visible, but also influences from the Veneno are present … and with that low, almost non-existent windshield, the memories of the 2012 Aventador J come to mind again, another one-off Aventador based model made in Sant’Agata.

I for one can’t wait to see more photos and read about this new Lamborghini SC20.

A week later, on December 16, 2020, Automobili Lamborghini SpA officially announced the SC20, a Barchetta track car from Squadra Corse that is fully street-legal, designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile with a body made from carbon fiber to the exact wishes of the customer, who was involved right from the design stage already.

Two years after the SC18 Alston, the SC20 would take the same philosophy of a race-car for road use, taking aerodynamics from the track to the street, but remain true to some of the masterpieces in the history of Lamborghini. Inspiration from the Diablo Roadster prototype, the Aventador J, and the Concept S was taken for the low, almost non-existent windshield, while the fact this would become a Barchetta with no roof whatsoever, they took the design of the Veneno Roadster buttress to the next level and implemented it onto the SC20, but without the central fin and air intake.

Some of the body design elements were taken from the SC18 Alston, but the design was further evolved for the SC20 by a pair of bespoke headlights and taillights, the latter being inspired by the Sián units, which in turn were inspired by the Countach taillights the SC20 takes almost 60 years of Lamborghini history into one design, and if you look closely at the exterior rearview mirrors, these come from the brand new Essenza SCV12 track-only Lamborghini.

From the photos it looks like the entire front segment of the Lamborghini SC20 comes off in one piece, there are no body lines to be found, so either the entire front, complete with fenders lifts off, or Lamborghini made this into a cofango too, just as we’ve seen on the Huracán STO that was recently unveiled. And the same applies to the rear apparently, there isn’t a hinged engine cover, but what looks like two round locks that can release the entire rear body section above the engine, most likely similar to the engine cover on the Veneno Roadster.

On the inside of the Lamborghini SC20, the seats and central console remind us of the Centenario Roadster, the race-style carbon fiber sport seats are fitted with a Nero Cosmus Alcantara upholstery combined with Blu Cepheus and Bianco Leda, the dashboard pod on the other hand seems to have been taken from the new Sián while the air vents are 3D printed just for the SC20, a lot of visible carbon fiber can be found inside the SC20 the overall impression is amazing nonetheless.

For the engine of this Bianco Fu Lamborghini SC20, Squadra Corse took the well-known, proven 6.5 liter V12 from the Aventador SVJ, 770hp with 720Nm of torque would be adequate for a Barchetta I guess, power still goes to the four-wheel drive with a central, electronic differential, and while the wheels are 20 inch at the front, and 21 inch at the rear, these look like the Veneno’s Raze wheels, but with a different ‘aero’ ring fitted, still center-lock naturally.

Nothing official has been mentioned about the price (or value) of this bespoke Lamborghini SC20, nor about the lucky customer that will be able to drive it, but, Mitja Bortkert, Head of Design at Lamborghini Centro Stile, mentioned the owner intends to drive this valuable Raging Bull on the open road regularly let’s just hope it doesn’t rain too much where he’ll keep this truly amazing looking Lamborghini.

While there were only two, low-resolution images, the rear angle clearly showed the profile of this car, while the front view is showing a front bumper similar to the one seen on the one of a kind SC18 Alston that was unveiled in 2018 … so is Lamborghini racing department, Squadra Corse, working on a second bespoke, one-off model for a fortunate customer?

In a recent interview it was mentioned Lamborghini would be building two more, unique, built to order cars based on the Aventador before the successor would be unveiled, could this roofless race car be one of those … and in that case, would it called SC20, for Squadra Corse 2020.

The design shows a model with various aerodynamic parts, one of which is a massive rear wing with a strut in the middle, but also the front shows multiple air intakes, while the wheels look like the Raze 7 units, first seen on the Veneno, but later also used on the SC18 … but then you notice there isn’t really a windshield on this car, so is the future owner looking for a two-seater Formula One car, or a LeMans racer celebrating the design of the past when race cars were open-top models.

If Squadra Corse takes the Aventador as a basis, and perhaps even add an evolution of the Sian Supercapacitor pack, we might be looking at a power output well beyond the 800 hp mark, even as high as 900 hp might come to mind … image that much power with no windshield … I sure hope they deliver a helmet with this car.

Come to think about it, why wouldn’t Automobili Lamborghini SpA create a one-off, bespoke Sian Aperta, taking the Sian Roadster but installing the low windshield similar to the Aventador J, and while they are at it, finish the body in clear carbon fiber … I would be interested in a car like that.

Lamborghini Squadra Corse presents the SC20, a unique specimen of an open-top track car type-approved for road use. The SC20 is the second one-off engineered by the motorsport department and designed by Centro Stile in Sant’Agata Bolognese: the car was created following the customer’s wishes, who was involved in the project from the very first drawings by Lamborghini’s designers.

The common goal was to build a unique vehicle, extreme in its design and performance, and able to combine aerodynamic solutions taken from racing Lamborghinis incorporating unprecedented lines and exclusive details. “Two years after the SC18 Alston, the SC20 was a new, intriguing challenge. The chief sources of inspiration were the Diablo VT Roadster, Aventador J, Veneno Roadster and Concept S, and the result is a dramatic combination of creativity and racing attitude,” commented Mitja Borkert, Head of Design Lamborghini Centro Stile.

The carbon fiber body was polished and slicked down by hand by the Lamborghini aerodynamic engineers to deliver optimal airflow for both performance and the cockpit’s occupants, ensuring comfortable open-air driving even at high speeds. The pronounced front splitter is framed by two fins and the air intakes on the front hood are inspired by those of the Huracán GT3 EVO, while the sculpted body sides reflect the solutions adopted on the Essenza SCV12. The muscular rear is topped by a large carbon fiber wing that can be set in three different positions: Low, Medium and High Load.

The SC20 features exclusive details starting from the body colors on a Bianco Fu (white) base, created for the customer, on which the Blu Cepheus (blue) livery stands out. The same shade is found in the interior, alternating with Nero Cosmus (black) and Bianco Leda (white). The most significant element of the passenger compartment is the visible carbon fiber used for the dashboard cover, rear wall, door panels, center console and steering wheel trim, in addition to the monocoque. Carbon fiber is also used for the shells of the seats upholstered in Alcantara and leather. The door handles on the other hand, are machined from solid aluminum. Lastly, the air vents are created using 3D printing technology at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory.

Maurizio Reggiani, Chief Technical Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, stated, “The SC20 is a combination of sophisticated engineering, Italian craftsmanship, sportiness and advanced design. It is also an example of applying our V12 engine and carbon fiber to a radical open-top vehicle that unmistakably carries the Lamborghini DNA.”

Its engine is based on Lamborghini’s flagship V12: the 6,498 cm3 aspirated twelve-cylinder that delivers 770 CV at 8,500 rpm and develops 720 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. It is managed through the optimized seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) gearbox. The power is discharged to the ground by the four-wheel drive system with central electronic differential, and the Pirelli PZero Corsa tires are mounted on single-nut aluminum rims, 20 inches in front and 21 inches at the rear.

Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, commented, “The SC20 is one more technical and styling exercise that associates Squadra Corse experience with Lamborghini design, masterfully interpreted by our Centro Stile based on the customer’s wishes, which was the focus of the project during the entire vehicle development and construction process.”
