He also mentioned the Lamborghini Urus will be unveiled on December 4. 2017 in Sant’Agata, the world’s first Super Sports Utility Vehicle (SSUV) … “The Lamborghini Urus redefines possibilities, creating a class of its own: unprecedented SUV performance, luxury and versatility, with the distinctive dynamic design DNA of a Lamborghini super sports car. Driving through a new era.” according to Stefano Domenicali.

The Automobili Lamborghini SpA stand at the 2017 IAA show in Frankfurt, Germany, once again showcased the Ad Personam Studio on a Huracan Performante, this time with a two-tone exterior livery combining Grigio Acheso with Nero Noctis and a striping in Arancio Anthaeus.

The contrast between the satin grey and glossy black is really nicely done with the sweeping line on the side and the special treatment of the special Performante engine cover … and once again it shows there a little to no limitations when a customer takes the Ad Personam route for his/her, new Raging Bull.

Let’s take a look at some of the more viable options for Automobili Lamborghini SpA to show the press on Tuesday, September 12th …

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder

We’ve seen the camouflaged test mule during road trials already, an open-top version of the record-breaking Lamborghini Huracan Performante, complete with the special ALA front bumper and rear wing, a different engine cover, and probably the custom, Performante style interior … it seems this car is just about ready to go into production, so it could very well be introduced at the 2017 IAA show.

The Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster

It is obvious the new Lamborghini Aventador S will receive a Roadster version in the near future, I was thinking they would show it at The Quail a few weeks ago, but instead Lamborghini showed a trio of very impressive Ad Personam bespoke models … so the official unveil of the Roadster S hasn’t happened yet, while on the official website the ‘old’ Aventador Roadster is no longer listed in the current line-up. Showing the new Aventador Roadster S, or Aventador S Roadster, next week in Frankfurt would make perfect sense.

The Lamborghini Urus

Rumor has it there will be a special VIP unveil at the factory in December 2017, so it is very unlikely Lamborghini will show the production version of the Urus next week in Germany, I personally think we’ll be seeing the Urus SUV in Geneva next year and not at the IAA. The Lamborghini Urus will be using either a V8, 660hp engine or a V6 Hybrid with 458hp.

An article in AutomobileMag has caused quite a stir in the automotive world by stating we will see a total of 7 new Huracan variants on the market in the future, while the Aventador successor will be ready by 2020 already … and Lamborghini will be moved to the Porsche portfolio … let’s take a look at some of the models they mention in their article:

The Huracan Barchetta

Why not build a very limited number of Huracan Barchetta, a two-seater with a low windshield (don’t worry, they will probably deliver a matching set of helmets with this one) and no roof whatsoever … it has been done before with the Aventador J, the Veneno Roadster, and the Centenario Roadster, so why not do the same with the ‘other’ model in the lineup, the Huracan.

The Huracan Speedster

With the Barchetta being a bit special, and probably very limited, another option might be a Speedster version of the Huracan, something like the Huracan Spyder, but with a manual soft top, which needs less space behind the seats, so the design of the engine cover can be changed … making the side profile totally different compared to the Spyder.

The Huracan Targa

The Aventador Roadster has been using two panels as a roof, so why not do the same on the Huracan and call it the Targa … Porsche has a 911 Convertible and a 911 Targa too, so why not have the same variant on a V10 Lamborghini. The roof panels could be stored in the front just like on the Aventador and with the panels in place you will almost have a Huracan coupe.

The Huracan GT3 Stradale

On the Gallardo we had the Super Trofeo Stradale and the Squadra Corse … so it isn’t too farfetched to be seeing a Huracan GT3 Stradale in the near future too, probably with some active aerodynamics, wider front fenders, massive rear wing, big air intakes and possibly even an air intake over the roof feeding into the engine compartment.

The Huracan Safari

The Automobilemag also mentions something really special … a Huracan Safari, complete with adjustable suspension to raise the car so it can travel on ‘less than perfect’ roads, but also with plastic protection panels … an off-road Huracan, and this would be available in both coupe and roadster form … somehow this doesn’t sound like a good marketing move considering the Urus is yet to be unveiled.

The Aventador successor

Naturally, the flagship replacement is already under development in Sant’Agata, code names are LB634 for the coupe and LB635 for the Roadster, rumor has it the new V12 will be shown in 2020 already … yes … the V12 will remain, enlarged to 7.0 liter and possibly reach 800hp initially, a hybrid model will be introduced later on adding two electric motors at the front with 160hp each … total power output will be well over 1,000 hp in factory specs.

If we take a look at the evolution of the Reventon into the Aventador production model, it is more than likely the successor will borrow styling queues from both the Veneno and the Centenario … but taking the design to a higher level.

But before the Aventador will be succeeded in a few years time I’m sure we’ll be seeing yet another edition of the current model …

The Aventador GT

We’ve already had the Superveloce model of the V12 flagship, so why not take her a step further and introduce an Aventador GT, even wilder than the SV, more power (let’s say 770hp) and naturally with the added bonus of ALA, since the Huracan Performante showed the active aerodynamics to be a winning solution, I’m sure the Aventador will receive the same treatment in one form or another.

So there you have it … nobody knows what Lamborghini will be showing next week in Frankfurt at the 2017 IAA … but they sure have a lot of options to choose from …

You could almost say that ‘the sky is the limit’ when it comes to creating a truly bespoke Raging Bull when a customer opts for the Ad Personam customization … in the end the Ad Personam director still have to approve the configuration before the Lamborghini will actually be built at Sant’Agata, but the amount of personalization is almost endless … or as far as you bank account will stretch … but you know the saying ‘if you have to ask how much …’.

So what better place to showcase the possibilities of the Lamborghini Ad Personam Studio than the Monterey Car Week, at The Quail in northern California, to reach the enthusiasts and owners that could be thinking about their next exotic supercar …

Usually, Lamborghini shows one, very special Ad Personam edition at shows like this, but for the 2017 edition of the Monterey Car Week, Automobili Lamborghini SpA went beyond that with no less than three bespoke, custom built cars from their current range, the Huracan Performante, the Huracan RWD Spyder and the Aventador S.

At The Quail, a Motorsports gathering, Lamborghini showed their brand new Huracan Performante on center stage … finished in a very dark metallic green called Verde Hydra this ‘Ad Personam for Pebble Beach’ edition didn’t feature the usual Tricolore on the lower part of the side, but instead a nice, thin, bronze livery on the front bumper and at the rear … on the side a small Performante script in bronze complimented the bronze Narvi wheels perfectly.

Furthermore the interior of this Huracan Performante showed a Nero Cosmus upholstery with Nero Ade Alcantara inserts … the bronze shade has been taken into the interior by using this shade on the stitching for the steering wheel and on the seats, including the Performante script on the bolsters … also note the Italian Tricolore on the seat back.

The bright orange Lamborghini Aventador S was finished in a brand new Arancio Xanto shade, complete with clear carbon fiber front spoiler, side skirts and lower rear diffuser … and a complete roof and windshield pillars in glossy carbon fiber … a glass engine cover allowed a peek at that impressive V12 engine while satin coated, titanium finished Dianthus center-lock wheels completed the outside look.

On the inside, a black Alcantara upholstery was used together with various parts in similar, high gloss, lightweight carbon fiber … but the very special stitching pattern on the seats really drew our eye … the well-known Y pattern was incorporated into the seat back, three Y’s next to each other in bright red made this Pebble Beach edition really special.

Last, but by no means least, was a light shades Lamborghini Huracan RWD Spyder, at first glance she might look white, but this is, in fact, the Grigio Astarte shade, rolling on black Giano wheels (an option on the V10 RWD model) with an absolutely stunning, Bicolore Elegante interior finished in Terra Emilia and Nero Ade and impressive Grigio Chronus stitching … truly a topless masterpiece.

The Lamborghini display might be static, but at The Quail Lodge VIP, customers and the media could take the wheel of the current Lamborghini models and take a test drive in the area over the magnificent mountain roads in Carmel Valley, or have a look at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance with a very nice Lamborghini Miura S … or admire the Huracan Performante on the Concept Lawn.

Despite that, the number of Lamborghinis that showed up was still impressive, and one of them really stood out of the crowd … a rear, Nero Nemesis finished Murcielago Super Veloce, number 025/350 with a small yellow SV script on the side that complemented the yellow brake calipers behind those amazing looking, lightweight wheels.

People really like the SV wheels, so one of the Murcielago at the event had her original wheels swapped for a set of Super Veloce wheels, together with the updated LP640 taillights and a custom exhaust, this Murcielago 6.2 looked really nice.

Other V12’s at Zandvoort included a brand new looking, red Countach Quattrovalvole (fuel injected model), a really nice yellow Diablo, one of the rare, massive LM002 off-road Bulls and a bright metallic green Lamborghini Aventador with glossy black, optional Dione wheels.

We don’t see the Jalpa that often anymore these days, but that red on at Zandvoort looked like it just left the factory gates, despite being almost 30 years old … keep in mind the Jalpa can be considered as the grandfather to the Gallardo … and that V10 model surely was present at Italia a Zandvoort too.

No less than two yellow Gallardo first series were shown, one on black wheels while the other came with a glossy black roof. The third one of these early Gallardo boasted a matte gray wrap with red details … three Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera were present too, one being a rare white one while the two others were finished in the well-known Arancio Borealis, pearl metallic orange shade. One with the optional, tall rear wing in clear carbon fiber and the second one with the standard, low rear wing.

Possibly even more impressive was that Rosso Mars finished Lamborghini Gallardo Performante … despite Lamborghini now using the Performante name on the lightweight, high-speed Huracan variant, in the days of the Gallardo the Performante was the Spyder version of the Superleggera. Combined with the carbon fiber parts, Rosso Mars really looks great on this car, add the red brake calipers and sport seats inside and this car is destined to become a collector’s item in the future.

That black Gallardo at Zandvoort posed a bit of a puzzle … she looks like a Gallardo Squadra Corse with the special ‘Nuova Gallardo’ front and rear bumpers on an LP570-4 Superleggera base, but the large rear wing and special engine cover is missing … however, a very loud Akrapovic exhaust might compensate for that. The owner even confirmed he bought her with the tricolor stripes on the side, just like on the actual Lamborghini Gallardo Squadra Corse … but in the end, we are looking at a very special Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera.

Instead of the new SUV Automobili Lamborghini SpA CEO Stefano Domenicali introduced the new Huracan Performante and Aventador S to the Asian market, the former presented in the new Arancio Anthaeus, matte orange shade, as seen in Geneva while the latter was finished in a bright Rosso Mars.

Naturally the king of the Nürburgring took center stage in Shanghai, with the production car record lap time of only 6:52.01 min the new Performante made quite an impression on the automotive market, thanks to an increase in power to 640hp and the adoption of ALA, or Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva the new V10 evolution from Sant’Agata has quickly become a sales success … keep in mind some sources have stated a production limit of 2,000 units for the Performante has been mentioned … but official sources haven’t confirmed, nor denied this.

What we do know is the fact Lamborghini is already road-testing the Huracan Performante Spyder, the open top version of the V10 flagship, probably due to the different aerodynamic configuration and a slightly higher weight compared to the Coupe, the Performante Spyder might not be able to lap the Green Hell in Germany in the same record setting time.

On the stand at the Auto Shanghai show we also discover the evolution of the V12 flagship from Sant’Agata, the new Aventador S, with modified suspension, four-wheel steering and 740hp this new model brings acceleration figures from 0 to 100 Km/h in 2.9 seconds and puts down a top speed of 350 Km/h.

Both the Huracan RWD and Huracan RWD Spyder can be admired at the Auto Shanghai show this year, the rear wheel drive version of the famous V10 Lamborghini, especially in Spyder guise, is a perfect combination of lifestyle appeal and pure driving experience … keep in mind both the V12 and V10 engines from Lamborghini are still naturally aspirated … pure power’ made in Italy’.

Lamborghini will bring ‘a new design, superior power and a mix of advanced technologies’ to the Ricardo Tormo F1 track in Valencia, Spain next month … there were no photos with the invitation so it isn’t clear what model they are talking about as there are two different test mules being captured in spy shots lately.

Autocar and many other publications are convinced we will be seeing the new evolution of the V12 flagship model in Spain, with the ‘Aventador S’ being trademarked recently it could be time for a facelift of the original LP700-4 model that was introduced in 2011 … over five years ago by now, so it might be a wise marketing decision to ‘refresh’ the top of the line model.

Sure we had the Aventador LP720-4 and LP750-4 Superveloce already, but those were both limited edition models, not actual production versions, so the Aventador S should be considered as the successor to the LP700-4 model … probably not as powerful as the Superveloce but still raising the bar of 700hp to at least 730hp or 740hp.

Showing the new car for the first time to the press on a track will offer the option of enjoying the new technology at speed, things that aren’t possible on public roads, keep in mind the new Aventador will offer four-wheel steering for the first time, added power and active aerodynamics for improved airflow and better stability at speed.

Most likely the first customer cars for this new model will be delivered towards the Summer of 2017, by that time we could already be seeing the release of the Aventador S Roadster too, if they replace the original LP700-4 with the Aventador S they sure won’t be selling too many LP700-4 Roadster anymore … people will want to get the new model in the ‘open top’ variant as soon as possible.

Another Lamborghini model that has been frantically tested lately is the Huracan Performante, recent spy shots of this lightweight V10 in the snow have unveiled a new design for the center-lock wheels … this car could also be described as ‘new design, superior power and a mix of advanced technologies’ … so will we seen a new V12 in January … or will it be the new V10?

So the MY2017 Aventador will replace the current Coupé and Roadster with an Aventador S and later on the Aventador S Roadster, as far as we know there will be a power increase from 700hp to 740hp and the four-wheel drive will remain, but four-wheel steering will be added as seen on the limited edition Centenario (there is a factory test mule based on the Aventador Superveloce with four-wheel steering already).

The large display on the central console of the Centenario will be adapted to the interior of the new 2017 Aventador S too, complete with the infotainment system coupled to it. If the interior will receive other updates isn’t sure yet, we’ll have to wait and see when the new car is unveiled.

Another very interesting rumor is ‘active aerodynamics’ … we’ve been hearing about this on the still to be released Huracan Performante already, which put down a very impressing lap time on the Nurburgring that has been kept a secret ever since … so using the experience from the V10 on the new V12 flagship would make sense.

If you look closely at the front air intakes you will notice special vertical vents that might just be adjustable at speed, however most likely some active flaps will be added to the undertray of the new Aventador to modify the airflow when needed … the various spy shots seen for this update don’t show a rear wing, but that doesn’t mean Lamborghini won’t be fitting one by the time the Aventador S is sold to the public … which might be adjustable too.

If we look at the facelift done to the Murciélago and the Gallardo before we could be expecting some modifications to the headlights and taillights too, we might be seeing those innovative LED headlights on the Aventador S … and why not have some Veneno/Centenario inspired taillights too … just to be different.

On some recent photos of what might be an Aventador S test mule, the factory fitted silver finished Diantus style center lock wheels, note that the Aventador Superveloce could only be ordered with glossy black Diantus rims … perhaps some customers insisted on silver painted one through the Ad Personam program … we might be seeing center lock wheels on the Aventador S too as they are rumored to be a US$3,500 option, available in glossy black or silver.

There is no official information on when the facelift for the Lamborghini Aventador will be unveiled, some sources think the 2017 Geneva Auto Show could be the venue for the new V12 model, other sources think the new flagship could be unveiled in late 2017 already …we’ll have to be patient for now …

The obvious changes are a new front bumper and rear diffuser, the test mule was rolling on Dione wheels but I’m sure the updated, Aventador facelift will receive a different wheel design just for her while at the back we saw a new exhaust design inspired by the Centenario.

The adjustable rear wing we already know from the existing Aventador is kept, as are the taillights, but just about every air intake and vent has been restyled, front, side and rear … and while the horizontal fin reminds us of the Superveloce, the style of the front bumper is totally different, with a lot of additional intakes.

The large air intake on the side, in front of the rear wheels has been changed too, the black section from the original Aventador isn’t used anymore and the styling is a little more aggressive, also the vent behind the intake extends lower now while the intakes from the Superveloce are seen on the ‘shoulders’ which might indicate a power increase … probably up to 730 or 740 hp.

When we will be able to admire the new, updated Aventador isn’t sure, but I put together a few virtualization for you to enjoy until the real deal is unveiled.

Don’t expect to get any secrets out of this charismatic leader of one of the most important super car builders in the world today, but some details did get clarified about Lamborghini … like the production plans for the Urus concept SUV for instance … Mr Winkelmann couldn’t confirm actual production yet, but he did mention if this large Bull would become available to the public this wouldn’t happen before 2017.

And there is a very good reason for this long delay : there just isn’t any production space available at the factory in Sant’Agata … if they would start building the Urus in the current factory it would mean production for the Gallardo or the Aventador would be delayed, and especially on the Aventador this just isn’t an option at this moment as the waiting list is already very long, putting a third model on the production line would just make things worse.

So it could take another five years before any shape of SUV based on the Urus concept would be unveiled by Lamborghini, and another detail Mr Winkelmann mentioned is using hybrid technology on the Urus … that’s right, Lamborghini is thinking about a hybrid powered model in the future.

At this moment the hybrid system is just too large to be fitted into the aging Gallardo or even the current Aventador model, the additional weight would really influence the power to weight equation in such a negative way that Lamborghini isn’t even considering this option for the V10 or V12 model … but in an Urus based SUV production model the additional space available and the fact such a model isn’t marketed as a super exotic road car the option of a hybrid engine would make sense.

Another detail Mr Winkelmann mentioned would be the fact the Urus might not be built at the factory in Sant’Agata anyway, producing the large SUV inside the original factory would interfere too much with the production of the sports cars Lamborghini is famous for, so we might be seeing the Urus built on another location and shipped to Sant’Agata for final assembly or finishing … remember the same thing happened with the LM002 back in the days which came fully assembled from Spain.

On a totally different level it became evident during the interview that Automobili Lamborghini SpA will continue to create one-off models like the Aventador Jota based on actual production versions, also very limited production runs like the Reventon and more recently the Sesto Elemento will keep popping up from time to time … remember Lamborghini built an entirely new building just for this … prototyping, custom work and small production runs … so during this interview Mr Winkelmann just confirmed that once again.
