Are they preparing a 750hp Lamborghini Urus Performante in Sant’Agata, or might it be the 820hp Urus Hibrido, while other sources depict the test mule currently being photographed as the mid-life facelift model, a Urus EVO perhaps?

Right from the introduction of the Urus in 2018, Lamborghini claimed it would become the first production car in hybrid form from Sant’Agata, the Sián isn’t really a production model right, but three years later we still haven’t seen the Urus Hibrido unveiled.

But recently we’ve seen multiple photographs of a Urus test mule out in the snow and driving around the factory in Sant’Agata … and it featured a different front and rear design, many dubbed it the Urus EVO, the mid-life facelift for Lamborghini’s Super SUV … but is it?

According to Car Magazine, this test mule is the 2022 Urus facelift, and it will include a Hibrido, this PHEV version will come with a Urus 2.0 evolution, and no sooner, the rumor is the MY2022 Urus will come with a slight power increase to 675 hp (only 25 hp more than the current Urus).

But the Urus Hibrido will be the most powerful Super SUV to date, packing as much as 820 hp combined, a Porsche sourced ICE LK5 engine is mentioned that will deliver 600 hp while the hybrid part adds 220 hp to this. Chances are the Urus Hibrido will pack up to 250 kg of additional weight, but her transmission could cope with 125kW of electric power for a total of 660lb-ft of torque.

These figures would put the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid to shame with 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, while the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid comes in at 465 hp and also 516 lb-ft of torque, while the Porsche gets 100kW electric power … the Urus Hibrido would shatter both on the open road, despite the 250kg penalty in weight.

Many articles mention a Urus Sport RS, with more power than the current model, but that name sounds strange to me, what if Lamborghini is preparing to launch a Urus Performante, a more potent, lighter version … wouldn’t that be better than calling it RS?

Rumor has it the Lamborghini Urus Performante would come with a 100hp power increase to 750hp, but also lose weight compared to the standard Urus, anything between 50kg to 80kg is mentioned, and she would come with more aggressive styling … and isn’t that exactly what this test mule showcases?

The test mule comes with additional air intakes underneath the headlights, and the side intakes on the bumper are different too, even at the rear we noticed the air vent is moved toward the rear wheels, and on that test car, the exhausts don’t look the same either.

Wouldn’t it be great to get a Urus from the factory with a carbon fiber hood, roof, and part of the rear hatch, combined with rearview mirrors, door handles and lower body panels in carbon fiber too, and while we’re at it, a set of cross spokes wheels inspired by the Huracán STO units.

On the inside combine this with Alcantara covered lightweight carbon fiber seats and lots of visible carbon fiber on the dashboard, central console, and door panels … I sure wouldn’t mind a Super SUV like that.

NOVITEC PRESS RELEASE

Exclusive NOVITEC sports program for the new Lamborghini Huracán Performante

Making the best sports cars in the world even more individual, more exciting and more dynamic: that is the specialty of NOVITEC. The world’s leading refinement specialist for enhancing super sports cars now offers a sophisticated lineup of sports components for the new lightweight-design model from Lamborghini, the Huracán Performante.

This includes tailor-made aerodynamic-enhancement components fine-tuned in the wind tunnel. They are made from the same innovative Forged Composites® material as the production carbon-fiber components on the bodywork.

The new NOVITEC NL3 forged wheels are likewise trimmed for low weight. Thanks to their combination of 20 and 21-inch wheels on the front and rear axle, they put even more emphasis on the wedge shape of the two-seater. These hi-tech wheels are optionally also available with center lock.

The NOVITEC sports springs make the handling even more agile and are calibrated specifically to this wheel and tire combination.

Sound and optimized performance are the outstanding advantages of the NOVITEC RACE high-performance exhaust system, which is available made from stainless steel and optionally made from extra-light INCONEL.

NOVITEC also creates exclusive interior appointments from the finest leather and Alcantara in practically any desired color to customer order.

The new Huracán Performante highlights its sporty focus with a host of carbon touches on the bodywork already ex-factory. The NOVITEC designers specialize not only in giving the world’s most exclusive sports cars even more thrilling looks, but also in further optimizing their aerodynamic efficiency.

The designers followed this tried and proven recipe on the new Lamborghini lightweight-design model as well. They went into the wind tunnel to develop additional bodywork components that further optimize the aerodynamics and give the mid-engine sports car even more of a racecar appearance. The NOVITEC add-on parts are manufactured from the same Forged Composites® carbon fiber as the production components on the Performante. As a result, the new components sport that same special look, which is more reminiscent of marble than of carbon.

The front fascia is further enhanced with attachments on the left and right, and a further protruding central spoiler blade. These components lend the Lamborghini an even sportier appearance and further reduce front-axle lift at high speeds at the same time.

In addition, the Performante can be fitted with the NOVITEC trunk hood with integrated air ducts on the left and right. This sophisticated routing of the relative wind provided by the hood is also a factor in giving the Huracán even higher directional stability at high speeds. In addition, gill-shaped Forged Composites® attachments on the front wheel arches can lend the face of the Lamborghini even more of a sporty look.

The NOVITEC rocker panels add further profile to the sides of the ten-cylinder sports car. They give the Huracán an even lower and longer visual stance, and thanks to their enlarged air intakes, they optimize the supply of cooling air to the rear brakes. The use of Forged Composites® material for these components and for the mirror covers further emphasizes the racing looks.

The same material is also used extensively at the rear end: NOVITEC attachments on the left and right of the large rear airfoil give it a more pronounced wing profile. This further increases downforce at the rear axle in concert with the add-on parts for the production diffuser, which were optimized in the wind tunnel.

The NOVITEC designers also fine-tuned the engine hood: Two hood scoops direct more breathing air to the engine and provide even more thrilling looks as well.

The spectacular NOVITEC looks for the Performante also include tailor-made hi-tech rims, of course. The NOVITEC NL3 wheels for the Lamborghini were developed in cooperation with American manufacturer Vossen and are produced using state-of-the-art forging technology.

Because the Huracán Performante is optionally also available with center lock wheels, the one-piece NOVITEC NL3 forged wheels are likewise available with a choice of conventional five-bolt pattern or center lock. The NOVITEC NL3 design fascinates with six delicate spokes that taper off towards the outer wheel flange in a widely spread Y, thereby making the wheel seem extremely large.

The combination of 20 and 21-inch wheels on the front and rear axle puts even more emphasis on the wedge shape of the Italian sports car. The front axle is fitted with 245/30 ZR 20 Pirelli P-Zero high-performance tires on 9Jx20 wheels. The rear axle sports tires of size 325/25 ZR 21 on 12.5Jx21 rims.

The NOVITEC sports springs lower the ride height of the Performante by another 35 millimeters and offer further enhanced sporty handling.

Engine tuning for the sportiest version of the Huracán model series is currently still under development. However, already available are the NOVITEC RACE sport exhaust systems. These high-performance exhaust systems are made from stainless steel or optionally from the even lighter material INCONEL, which is used in Formula 1 racing. As a result, the NOVITEC high-performance systems optimize the performance of the V10 engine and produce an extremely sporty exhaust note at the same time.

Of course, NOVITEC also fulfils the most individual customer requests in the cockpit. The company creates sublime interiors from the finest leather and Alcantara in any desired color, finished with consummate workmanship in every detail.

The new aero kit from Novitec for the Lamborghini Huracan Performante has been created to fit perfectly to the original Lamborghini Forged Composite material used abundantly on the Performante … Novitec calls it ‘visible Carbon Forged’ and it looks just like the material used by the factory … a very nice touch.

The new aero kit consists of the traditional front hood replacement, here Novitec offers either a carbon fiber version or a fiberglass version, both completely replace the original front hood on the Huracan and add a pair of air vents running from the front to the rear, furthermore you can add a pair of vents to the side of the front bumper and a new fin for the center of the bumper … all in visible Carbon Forged.

this and many more photos of lamborghinis are available on www. Lambocars. Com

For the side Novitec offers a pair of side sills in the same material to replace the satin black look on the Performante, add a pair of rearview mirror covers in visible Carbon Forged and you get the complete look from the side … but there is more magic happening at the rear, where you can get a set of rear wing attachments that make the original rear wing, an integral part of the ALA system, look even more menacing, and should increase downforce at the same time … two fins and a new centerpiece to be fitted onto the rear diffuser complete the Carbon Forged look at the back.

One more thing for the outside is a set of ‘fender attachments’ … which in fact look like a pair of air vents on top of the front wheels, fitted onto the fenders, much like the images we’ve been seeing for the new aero kit from Lamborghini Accessori themselves, but one of my personal favorite add-ons from Novitec is that pair of air intakes to be fitted on top of the engine cover, again in visible Carbon Forged, they look great in their high gloss finish.

this and many more photos of lamborghinis are available on www. Lambocars. Com

Novitec has created a power-optimized steel exhaust system, complete with high-temperature heat protection, in an open, race style design with no flap regulation … the sound must be amazing from those two large exhaust tips in the rear diffuser.

As for wheels, Novitec offers the stunning NL3 wheel, a six spoke ‘Y’ shaped design that is available in 9×20 inch up front and 12.5×21 inch at the rear, with 245/30R20 and 325/25R21 tires respectively … and just in case you didn’t order the Loge center lock wheels from the factory, you can install the NL3 ZV-Look wheel, the same design but with a five bolt pattern … or you go for the real NL3 ZV center lock wheels and install the Novitec Central Locking kit that converts all Huracan with a 5 bolt pattern into a center lock setup.

In case you would like to see your Huracan Performante ride a little lower to the ground you can fit the Novitec Sports Spring set, available for cars with or without the Magneto option from Lamborghini … adding a set of spacers will move the five bolt wheels further outside of their wheel arches by 22mm.

So Novitec is one of the first to have a complete set ready for the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, and one that fits right into the Forged Composite elements we get on the Performante, that is a real attention to detail … I can’t wait for Novitec to show an N-Largo kit for the Huracan Performante …

Design and engineering delivers sublime combination of performance, driving dynamics and fresh-air exhilaration

Forged carbon fiber technology contributing to 35 kg weight reduction over Huracán Spyder

Naturally aspirated 5.2 l V10 engine with 640 hp at 8,000 rpm

Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and top speed of 325 km/h

The technologies and performance prowess of the Huracán Performante in a Spyder model including active aerodynamics: “Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva” (ALA)

Automobili Lamborghini presents the Lamborghini Huracán Performante Spyder: the sublime combination of peerless technological innovation, performance and open-air driving.

“The Huracán Performante Spyder takes the zenith of Huracán developments, combined with the enhanced emotion of driving a convertible,” says Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. “The Huracán Performante already provides the most heightened feedback and emotion from road and track, and the Huracán Performante Spyder puts the driver even closer to asphalt and air, as well as the unique resonance of a naturally-aspirated Lamborghini engine.”

With its inimitable 5.2 l V10 naturally-aspirated engine, the permanent fourwheel drive Performante Spyder accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.1 seconds, 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) in 9.3 seconds, and with a top speed of 325 km/h matches its coupé stablemate. Braking from 100-0 km/h is mastered in 31.5 m.

Like the Performante coupé, the Spyder outputs 640 hp (470 kW) at 8,000 rpm, producing 600 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, and with more than 70% of torque already available at 1,000 rpm. With a total dry weight of just 1,507 kg, the Spyder returns a weight-to-power ratio of 2.35 kg/hp, with weight distribution front/rear of 43/57%.

Design and engineering technology in exhilarating harmony

The inherent design, technology and performance features of the Huracán Performante are as fundamental in the Spyder, thus adding a new dimension of driving pleasure to the supreme driving experience of the Performante. Its open-top design clearly differentiates the Spyder from its coupé counterpart, with roof both open and closed.

The Performante design cues of Super Trofeo race cars and performance motorcycles with their naked, open-frame streetfighter characters remind that the Huracán Performante Spyder is a super sports car as capable on the track as the road.

The visible carbon fiber running throughout the aluminium body references the Huracán Performante Spyder’s lightweight character, contributing to a weight reduction of 35 kg over the original Huracán Spyder. Forged composite, with its ability to be shaped into complex geometrical shapes, features in front and rear spoiler, engine bonnet, rear bumper and aerodynamic diffuser: functional elements components within Lamborghini’s patented active aerodynamics system introduced on the Huracán Performante: Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva – ALA.

The Spyder’s soft-top does not compromise the ALA system, which varies aero load in conditions requiring either high down force or low drag, as well as enabling aero vectoring in high-speed cornering, thus providing excellent driving dynamics on track and on road in every condition. Lamborghini’s Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI) system governs all the car’s electronic systems in real time, including the car’s set-up as well as activating the ALA system in less than 500 milliseconds, ensuring the best aerodynamic set-up of the car in every driving condition.

Like the Huracán Performante coupé, the Spyder features an enhanced suspension system; recalibrated ESC; more responsive Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS); permanent four-wheel drive maximizing traction in all situations in conjunction with the ALA system; and revised ANIMA: Lamborghini’s driver-mode system comprising STRADA, SPORT and CORSA, which customizes the set-up of all the car’s dynamic systems.

The Huracán Performante Spyder roof – dynamic connection to ground and air

The lightweight, electrohydraulic roof ensures the Huracán Performante open-top is a true Spyder, perfectly complementing the car’s distinctive lines both open and closed, and maintaining rigidity, handling and performance. Even as a convertible, the Huracán Performante Spyder maintains the stiffness of an ultra-performing super sports car. The roof defines the Performante’s dynamic silhouette while closed, and when down is efficiently stored to maintain the Performante Spyder’s perfect center of gravity, revealing the alter-ego aesthete of the open Huracán Performante Spyder.

The roof opens in just 17 seconds up to a driving speed of 50 km/h (30 mph). The rear window can also be electrically opened, which functions as a windshield when closed. When the roof is down, the Huracán Performante Spyder’s design incorporates two movable fins, which rise out of the folding roof casing and continue the roofline from seatbacks to the rear of the car, lending the Spyder its distinctive silhouette. An integrated duct within the fins reduces turbulence in the headroom during open-top driving. Two additional, removable wind guards damp lateral aerodynamic pulsations, ensuring perfect acoustic comfort that allows conversation even at high speeds.

The Huracán Performante Spyder, with roof open or closed, is equally a driver’s car in challenging dynamic situations, as well as a thrilling lifestyle experience.

Price of the Lamborghini Huracán Performante Spyder and market delivery

In 2017 Lamborghini unveiled the impressive Huracan Performante at the Geneva Auto Show; now, exactly one year later, the open-top version of this record-breaking V10 is shown to the public at the same show in Switzerland.

The Huracan Performante held the record at the Nurburgring in March 2017 with a lap time of only 6:52.01, since then the Performante managed to get hold of no less than 8 record times on various circuits around the world, a feat that has been made possible by adding 30 hp to the original 610hp V10 and shedding some weight along the way.

But probably the most contributing factor to this record-breaking streak would be ALA, or Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, an ingenious system that changes the airflow around this Bull dynamically to increase downforce and decrease drag when conditions require and by finish many of the exterior (and interior) parts in Forged Composite, the Performante looks as mean as she should be.

Highlights for Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder

Now customers can order the Spyder version of this top-of-the-line Huracan, with similar looks to the coupe, with that deep front bumper with massive air intakes, the lower side sills finished in either matt or glossy black, and naturally, the Tricolore stripes (that can optionally be removed) while at the rear the massive diffuser tries to steal the show from the magnificent rear wing, finished in Forged Composite.

Back in September 2017, when Lamborghini introduced the Aventador S Roadster, that V12 was finished in a special shade of blue today, with the unveiling of the Huracan Performante Spyder, we see another blue being used as the introduction color, a matt Blu Aegeus this time. Sitting on black Loge, center lock wheels over yellow brake calipers, this V10 looks classy and mean at the same time.

Naturally, the Spyder ‘conversion’ adds weight to the car compared to the Coupé model, in this case about 125kg (1,507kg compared to 1,382kg for the closed version); still, the performance figures are impressive, acceleration from 0 to 100km/h takes the Spyder 3.1 seconds (0.2 seconds slower than the Coupé), from 0 to 200km/h is done in 9.3 seconds (0.4 seconds slower than the Coupé) however, the top speed of 325Km/h is the same for both versions.

What’s New for 2018 and 2019 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder?

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder underwent some changes when the 2019 model was released compared to the 2018 model. Here are some of the notable changes:

Design: The 2019 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder received some design changes, such as a redesigned front bumper, a larger air intake, and a revised diffuser at the rear. These changes improved the car’s aerodynamics and increased downforce.

Weight Reduction: The 2019 model is lighter than the 2018 model due to the use of lighter materials in the construction of the car, including forged composites and carbon fiber.

Engine: The engine in the 2019 Huracan Performante Spyder is the same as the 2018 model, a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 that produces 640 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque.

Performance: Despite the same engine, the 2019 model is quicker than the 2018 model due to its reduced weight and improved aerodynamics. The 2019 Huracan Performante Spyder can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 202 mph.

Huracan Performante Spyder Performance

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder is a high-performance supercar that offers impressive performance capabilities. Here’s what you can expect in terms of engine and transmission, handling, and driving impressions:

Under the hood, the Huracan Performante Spyder is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces 640 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. With this powertrain setup, the Huracan Performante Spyder can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of around 202 mph.

The Huracan Performante Spyder features a lightweight chassis that is made from aluminum and carbon fiber. The car also comes with a magnetorheological suspension system that constantly adjusts the damping to provide optimal performance and ride comfort. With its rear-wheel-drive setup, the Huracan Performante Spyder offers exceptional handling and agility, allowing drivers to take corners with ease.

When it comes to driving impressions, the Huracan Performante Spyder is a thrilling car to drive. Its V10 engine produces an incredible sound that is both aggressive and exhilarating. The car’s acceleration is quick and responsive, and the transmission shifts smoothly and quickly. The ALA active aerodynamics system improves the car’s stability and handling at high speeds, and the car’s brakes provide excellent stopping power.

As a high-performance supercar, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder is not known for its fuel efficiency. The official EPA fuel economy ratings for the 2021 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder are 13 miles per gallon in the city and 18 miles per gallon on the highway.
The Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder stands out as a high-performance convertible supercar, marked by an eye-catching exterior and a sleek, driver-centric interior. Here’s an in-depth examination of the design, both inside and out:

The design of the Huracan Performante Spyder is bold and assertive, drawing inspiration from the Huracan Performante coupe. Its acute angles and sharp lines contribute to a threatening appearance that’s bound to attract attention on the road. Its exterior is thoughtfully engineered to optimize aerodynamics and downforce, featuring elements like a prominent rear wing, an assertive diffuser, and strategically located air intakes that enhance airflow and cooling.

The car’s retractable soft-top roof is expertly crafted to be opened or closed in just 17 seconds, even while the vehicle is traveling at speeds up to 30 mph. This feature allows drivers to indulge in the exhilarating sensation of open-air driving without compromising the car’s remarkable performance characteristics.

In terms of dimensions, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder is impressively structured. With a length of 177.4 inches, it’s roughly two inches longer than the standard Huracán Spyder. The car’s width, not including side mirrors, is 75.7 inches, and the wheelbase stretches to 103.1 inches. Standing at a mere 46.5 inches tall, the Performante Spyder embodies the quintessential low-slung supercar profile.

Weight is crucial to the vehicle’s performance, and the extensive utilization of carbon fiber in its body has enabled the Performante Spyder to lose 77 pounds compared to the standard Huracán Spyder. With a dry weight of just 3,322 pounds and a curb weight around 3,550 lbs, the car’s lightweight construction synergizes with the potent V10 engine and cutting-edge technology. The result is the Huracan Performante Spyder, a supercar that embodies high performance through its breathtaking speed, nimbleness, and precision handling.

The available exterior colors may vary depending on the model year and location. Here are some of the available exterior colors for the Huracan Performante Spyder:

Bianco Monocerus (solid white).

Nero Noctis (solid black).

Grigio Lynx (metallic grey).

Verde Mantis (pearlescent green).

Rosso Mars (solid red).

Arancio Borealis (pearlescent orange).

The interior of the Huracan Performante Spyder is designed to be minimalist and driver-focused. The cockpit is designed to wrap around the driver, with all the controls within easy reach. The car comes with lightweight sports seats that are upholstered in Alcantara and feature contrasting stitching. The car’s digital instrument cluster and large touchscreen display provide all the necessary information and controls while still maintaining a clean and uncluttered look.

The Huracan Performante Spyder also features a premium audio system, climate control, and a range of other luxury features that make it a comfortable and enjoyable car to drive, even on long journeys.

By using Forged Composite and introducing ALA, Lamborghini Active Aerodynamics (which won the Autocar Innovation Award in 2017 by the way) together with aero vectoring and a dedicated chassis setup the Lamborghini Huracan Performante is an incredible car … both on the track and on the open road.

And now Lamborghini is ready to unveil the next dimension of the Huracan Performante at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show … no details are given yet, but we are almost sure this will be the Spyder version of this high-performance supercar.

A short video actually depicts a dark blue Huracan Performante … a rather unusual shade on this model, hence perfect to introduce on the Performante Spyder, the black Loge wheels are covering yellow brake calipers and those impressive Tricolore stripes are still there along the bottom of the door.

If the Huracan Performante Spyder will accelerate to 100km/h from standstill in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 325 Km/h like the coupé version isn’t sure, but undoubtedly he same V10 engine with 640 hp will be found in this open-top variant.

We have just seen the new Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster being officially unveiled at the 2017 IAA Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany, but we all know this isn’t the final evolution in the Aventador lineup before a successor will take over from the V12 flagship in 2020 … rumor had it the Urus would be shown at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, but Stefano Domenicali, President, and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini SpA confirmed the Urus will be unveiled during a special event at Sant’Agata on December 4, 2017, already … so what will be the highlight of the 2018 Geneva Show?

Most likely a new one-off … Maurizio Reggiani, Director of R&D at Lamborghini has confirmed they are working on another special, limited edition model, that will most likely be unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show … by that time it will be sold out probably … but that also means the Urus will not take center stage next year in March, and another rumor has it the new V12 flagship will be ready by 2020 already, which makes sense as the Aventador was introduced at the 2011 show in Geneva, so 9 or 10 years later a successor would be required … already known to have internal development number LB634 for the Coupe and LB635 for the Roadster.

But recent spy shots show Lamborghini is working on the final evolution of the current V12 flagship, the Aventador … with the Superveloce name already taken (limited at 600 Coupe and 500 Roadster) the more powerful version of the Aventador S might be called Aventador GT … and it will surely come with four-wheel steering and active aerodynamics … the ALA that has taken the Huracan Performante to a record-breaking time on the famous Nürnburgring in Germany.

Spy shots show both a Coupe and a Roadster with a higher mounted exhaust system … sure they left the original exhaust in place and covered the new one with a massive box … but when processing the images in PhotoShop it is clear there are two round exhausts hiding under that box … just as we’ve seen on the Huracan Performante.

Naturally the final Aventador evolution will come with a different, more aggressive styling, and will take the lessons learned from the Performante with the new ALA, Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, so special aerodynamics will be found at the front and rear of this new Aventador …

With the V12 successor being ready in 2020 or 2021 at the latest, this only leaves 2019 for the final, limited edition, ultimate evolution of the Aventador to be shown in Geneva …

The Huracán Performante has been awarded the Innovation Award by the UK’s Autocar magazine. The presentation was made to Board Member for Research and Development, Maurizio Reggiani, in an event at Silverstone circuit, which coincided with Lamborghini’s week-long dynamic launch of the car in Italy, to media worldwide.

“The Huracán Performante demonstrates intriguing innovation in its active aerodynamics system,” said Autocar editor Mark Tisshaw. “The award recognises the technology that most impressed us during the last year, something that has broken new ground.”

“Having just driven the car at its launch, we can also vouch for the remarkable performance of this naturally aspirated super sports car. The active aerodynamics system takes dynamic handling to a new level.”

“We are very proud to receive formal recognition from a prominent and respected UK automotive publication,” said Maurizio Reggiani. “The Huracán Performante’s abilities are already proven from its production car lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This award provides additional acknowledgement of the car’s prowess, which is largely due to its patented ALA system (Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva), and a testament to the talent of our R&D and design teams.”

The V10 flagship has been introduced at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show as the Huracan Performante, but there is one more evolution in the making at Sant’Agata, the test mule for this upcoming V10 Raging Bull has been spotted already.

Back in the days of the Gallardo the Coupé model was called the Superleggera while the Spyder received the Performante designation, but with the Huracan the Coupé already took the Performante name, so most likely this new model will become the Huracan Performante Spyder, the lightweight, active aerodynamic top of the line model in the series.

Due to ALA or the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, the engine cover on the Performante Spyder will most likely be different from the regular Huracan Spyder one, using special ducts that can be opened and close to change the airflow into the special, hollow rear wing found on the Performante to modify the downforce at the rear, while flaps in the new front spoiler will perform the same task on that end.
As for wheels, the Mimas model will most likely be standard while the new Narvi lightweight as seen on the Geneva show car and the center lock Logo wheels will be optionally available.

The new rear diffuser with the dual, high mounted exhaust pipes will emit a thundering sound that will be even more intimidating with the top down on the Performante Spyder, the use of carbon fiber and Forged Composite will allow a drop in weight, but it is unlikely the Performante Spyder will set the same, record-breaking, lap time on the Nürburgring as her closed counterpart because due to reinforcements needed after removing the roof will make the Performante Spyder about 120kg heavier than the regular Performante.

If the exterior of the Huracan Performante Spyder doesn’t already impress you, the interior surely will, fitted with the lightweight sports seats and available with a variety of contrasting stitching and laser etched patterns against the black Alcantara and the abundant use of Forged Composite.

If you prefer a more comfortable ride you can opt to have the regular seats fitted, upholstered in black Alcantara and with the possibility to have some impressive stitching added … the option list does not mention leather upholstery for the Huracan Performante because it is too ‘slippery’ for a track inspired car, but I’m sure you’ll be able to convince the Ad Personam director of fitting leather if you really insist.

The Huracan Performante Spyder might be unveiled to the public later this year, rumor has it the new Lamborghini Urus will take centre stage at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, so that is not an option for the Spyder then, perhaps we’ll be seeing Lamborghini back at the IAA in Frankfurt this year (last year they didn’t have a stand in Paris) to show us the impressive 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder … we’ll have to wait and see.

Rumor had it Lamborghini would show the production version of the new Urus SUV at the Auto Shanghai 2017 show because the production line at Sant’Agata is ready or being finalized as we speak, and pre-production Urus are being built to offer dealer training and first-hand information of road tests … also keep in mind the original Urus concept was shown at the same Shanghai show back in 2012 … but there was no Urus on the stand this time.

Instead of the new SUV Automobili Lamborghini SpA CEO Stefano Domenicali introduced the new Huracan Performante and Aventador S to the Asian market, the former presented in the new Arancio Anthaeus, matte orange shade, as seen in Geneva while the latter was finished in a bright Rosso Mars.

<img decoding="async" class="wp-image-1817 size-full" src="https://www. Lambocars. Com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/2017_huracan_performante_44. Jpg" alt="https://www. Lambocars. Com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/2017_huracan_performante_44. Com

Naturally the king of the Nürburgring took center stage in Shanghai, with the production car record lap time of only 6:52.01 min the new Performante made quite an impression on the automotive market, thanks to an increase in power to 640hp and the adoption of ALA, or Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva the new V10 evolution from Sant’Agata has quickly become a sales success … keep in mind some sources have stated a production limit of 2,000 units for the Performante has been mentioned … but official sources haven’t confirmed, nor denied this.

What we do know is the fact Lamborghini is already road-testing the Huracan Performante Spyder, the open top version of the V10 flagship, probably due to the different aerodynamic configuration and a slightly higher weight compared to the Coupe, the Performante Spyder might not be able to lap the Green Hell in Germany in the same record setting time.

<img decoding="async" class="wp-image-1818 size-full" src="https://www.
On the stand at the Auto Shanghai show we also discover the evolution of the V12 flagship from Sant’Agata, the new Aventador S, with modified suspension, four-wheel steering and 740hp this new model brings acceleration figures from 0 to 100 Km/h in 2.9 seconds and puts down a top speed of 350 Km/h.

“The Aventador S represents an evolution of more performance and more state of the art technology. We are debuting the Aventador S in Asia at the Shanghai Auto Show to showcasing Lamborghini’s long-term commitment to the China market.” says Lamborghini’s Managing Director of Greater China, Francesco Scardaoni. ” China is one of the key markets for Lamborghini. Lamborghini is committed to providing the best products, highest level of services and a perfect brand experience to Chinese customers.”

<img decoding="async" class="wp-image-1819 size-full" src="https://www.
Both the Huracan RWD and Huracan RWD Spyder can be admired at the Auto Shanghai show this year, the rear wheel drive version of the famous V10 Lamborghini, especially in Spyder guise, is a perfect combination of lifestyle appeal and pure driving experience … keep in mind both the V12 and V10 engines from Lamborghini are still naturally aspirated … pure power’ made in Italy’.

Back in 2011 the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show as the new V12 flagship from Sant’Agata to succeed the Murciélago, the Aventador became an instant success, quickly outselling the Murciélago, with the Aventador Roadster introduced in late 2012 and the 50th Anniversary edition, called the Aventador LP720-4 from 2013, the lineup was quickly expanded beyond the standard model.

At the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show the impressive Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce was introduced, a limited edition top of the line V12 model, only 600 Coupé and 500 Roadster versions would be available to the public, thanks to the increase in power and the aggressive styling the entire production run quickly sold out and even today prices on the Superveloce are still above MSRP.

Six years after the original LP700-4, Lamborghini unveiled a mid-life update … the Aventador S, with slightly more power (740 instead of the original 700), rear wheel steering, modified suspension and a more aggressive styling, this evolution of the V12 flagship is now very desirable … a Roadster version of the Aventador S hasn’t been officially introduced, but a test mule has been photographed already, so it is only a matter of time for the open top variant of the V12 to be updated too.

With this update being shown only a few weeks ago it is obvious the Lamborghini Aventador will be in production for at least another three or four years, which means we won’t be seeing a real V12 successor until 2020 or 2021 … but will the Aventador S be the final model? I’m sure it won’t be.

I think by the end of 2018 or early 2019 we will be able to admire yet another evolution of the Aventador heritage, most likely the final edition, more power, more aggressive styling and probably limited in production … a worthy swan song for the most successful V12 model ever to be built in Sant’Agata.

The black test mule captured on camera recently showed a slightly modified front bumper, but the best part could be seen at the rear .. .a pair of big, round exhaust pipes sitting above the original rear bumper, just like on the Performante. So Lamborghini is testing the next evolution of their V12 on the open road already.

It would be totally logical to transplant the ALA system from the Huracan Performante, which has been developed by Automobili Lamborghini SpA, onto their flagship model, so a less restricted exhaust system, an active aerodynamic system on the front spoiler and rear wing with a modified engine cover, a more aggressive lower diffuser at the rear and an increase in power to 780 or 790 hp coupled to a weight loss could mean the new Lamborghini Aventador could shatter the Nürburgring record time from the Performante again.

If this new, limited edition Lamborghini Aventador could be called GT isn’t sure, but it would make sense if we look at the Diablo range, the Diablo SV was also the more potent version of the Diablo VT while at the end of the production the Diablo GT with only 80 units became the most sought-after Lamborghini from that era … having the Aventador Superveloce earlier on in the production life with an Aventador GT at the end might make total sense now, but unlike the Diablo GT we might even be seeing an Aventador GT Roadster …

5.2 l V10 aspirated engine with higher torque and power output of 640 hp

Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and top speed of more than 325 km/h

The highest performance and achievements on track reflected in its name: Huracán Performante

Automobili Lamborghini unveils the Huracán Perfomante at the Geneva Motor Show, combining new lightweight technologies, active aerodynamics with aero vectoring and a new set-up of chassis, all-wheel-drive system and further improved powertrain. The Huracán Performante is the result of Lamborghini innovations, producing a super sports car balanced between achieving the best lap times on a circuit with the most engaging and dynamic road driving. On 5 October 2016, the Huracán Performante set a new production car lap record of 6:52.01 min on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

“The Huracán Performante is the convergence of technological developments to produce a car delivering perfect performance,” says Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stefano Domenicali. “This new car represents the powerhouse of Lamborghini DNA and innovation, and a 360 degree approach to creating class-leading super sports cars. It illustrates the pinnacle of Lamborghini V10 production car performance to date, on both track and road, and is perfectly exemplified by its name: Lamborghini Huracán Performante.”

Lightweight Engineering

Based on a hybrid aluminum and carbon fiber frame, the Huracán Performante’s body is produced from aluminum in conjunction with significant use throughout of Lamborghini’s award-winning Forged Composite. Using chopped carbon fibers in a resin, Forged Composite allows the creation of lightweight, complex geometrical shapes beyond that possible with traditional carbon fiber composite materials, while maintaining optimum stiffness.
The Performante features Forged Composite in structural components including front and rear spoiler, the engine bonnet, rear bumper and aerodynamic diffuser, contributing to the car’s weight reduction of 40 kg.

Active Aerodynamics – Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA)

The Huracán Performante adopts Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA): ALA is also the Italian word for wing. This patented active aerodynamic system developed by Lamborghini for the Huracán Performante provides an active variation of aero load for high down force or low drag.

The system is completely integrated into the vehicle in terms of design, weight and performance. The front spoiler integrates the electric motor of the front ALA system, built in a carbon forged frame with active flaps on the top exterior surface. The rear bonnet is designed around the air ducts to the rear wing as well as the wing pylons.

Lamborghini’s Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI) governs all the car’s electronic systems in ‘real time’ and is perfectly integrated with the ALA system, activating the ALA system flaps in less than 500 milliseconds to ensure the best aerodynamic set-up of the car in every driving condition.

When ALA is off, the active flaps inside the front spoiler are closed, generating the desired high downforce for high speed cornering and full brake conditions. When ALA switches to on the front flaps are opened by the front electric motor, reducing air pressure on the front spoiler and directing air flow via an inner channel and through the specially shaped underside of the car. This drastically reduces drag and optimizes conditions for maximum acceleration and top speed.

In the rear of the Performante four ducts are installed below the rear bonnet. The two central ducts are always open to allow underhood ventilation and exhaust cooling, while the two external ducts are connected to the inner channels of the rear wing. The air flow through the rear wing channels is controlled by two electro-actuated flaps. The entire system is 80% lighter than a traditional hydraulic system.

When ALA is off the rear flaps are closed, permitting the rear wing to act as a traditional fixed wing. Stability is enhanced in high speed cornering and full braking by creating maximum vertical downforce; 750% more than a Huracán coupé.

The LPI turns on the ALA in high throttle conditions, opening the rear flaps to allow air through the rear wing’s inner channels and directing air flow through ridges underneath the wing. This reduces drag and maximizes the car’s acceleration and top speed capabilities.

In addition, the rear wing’s inner air channel is split right and left, allowing aero vectoring for high speed cornering. Depending on the direction of the turn, the LPI instructs ALA to be switched on in either the right or left side of the spoiler, increasing downforce and traction on the inner wheel, counteracting the load transfer in rolling conditions. This in turn optimizes the chassis’ momentum, requiring a reduced steering angle and improving the car’s overall dynamic stability.

Design

The Huracán Performante contains the DNA of a true Lamborghini, with its design unmistakably describing and emphasizing the car’s purpose and inherent technologies, like a piece of technical art.

Reflecting the pure lines and performance of Lamborghini Super Trofeo race cars, the design also takes inspiration, particularly at the rear, from naked performance motorcycles, with their exposed frames and ‘streetfighter’ structures expressing function and performance.

Moreover, the design highlights the active aerodynamics (ALA) and lightweight build that are so integral to the car. Gloss, naked Forged Composite with its ability to be shaped or moulded in a single piece, is always used in ALA components, alongside matt and gloss black carbon fiber features contrasting with the matt body color: shown in a new matt orange (Arancio Anthaeus) on the Huracán Performante in Geneva.

The new front is sophisticated and razor-blade sharp like a race car, with the design of the air intakes and splitter giving the impression of incisors, reminiscent of a striking snake. The active aerodynamic front spoiler is clearly visible in Forged Composite. The front bumper has no grills emphasizing lightweight, efficiency and sportiveness.

The engine bonnet in Forged Composite emphasizes its lightweight construction. Air intakes are integrated in the engine bonnet to provide air flow to the rear wing inner ducts and cooling air to the engine, with a Plexiglas cover over the engine inside. The V10 power plant’s manifold cover in bronze, a finish used in other special edition engines, is a reminder of Lamborghini heritage as well as denoting the enhanced engine and increased power output.

The racing inspired and fascinating rear, features extensive carbon fiber, with Forged Composite components reinforcing the significance of active aerodynamics. The rear wing with integrated air ducts could only have been created in one piece using the Forged Composite technology.

The sportiness of the Performante’s design is exemplified by the high mounted exhausts, similar to extreme sports motorcycles, which create a more direct physical connection with the engine. The rear diffuser in matt black is directly inspired by Lamborghini Super Trofeo race cars, in both appearance and function. A trapezoid line from the bottom of the diffuser, also in Forged Composite, emphasizes the width of the car’s rear: technical and sporty with an immense presence.

From the side, the design is characterized by the accelerating line of the rocker cover with air intakes in matt black, the Italian tricolore colors of the Performante’s Sant’Agata Bolognese birthplace on the doors, topped with wing mirrors in shiny black. The lightweight, Narvi 20” forged wheels, dedicated to the Huracán Performante, are painted in bronze.

Powertrain and performance

The enhanced naturally aspirated Huracán engine is the most powerful V10 produced to date by Lamborghini. Outputting 640 hp (470 kW) at 8,000 rpm and producing 600 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, it is distinguished by a new bronze manifold that draws on the heritage of previous special edition engines such as the Diablo 30th Anniversary power plant.

The Performante’s new powertrain draws on sophisticated technologies 0including developments from Lamborghini’s motorsports program. Engine fluid dynamics for both intake and exhaust have been optimized, as has the V10’s air intake system with reduced loss improving responsiveness. New titanium valves allow higher valve lifts to increase engine permeability and performance.

The exhaust system has been redesigned to achieve weight reduction and less back pressure. The exhaust pipes, positioned at a higher and more central position, deliver a more aggressive sound in high performance use, resonant of motor racing.

The car’s powerful engine produces an optimized torque curve, with more than 70% of torque already available at 1,000 rpm. Reflecting this, Lamborghini’s seven-speed dual clutch transmission has been also optimized in order to match the increased performance.

The Performante’s dry weight is just 1,382 kg, giving a weight to power ratio of 2.16 kg. Weight distribution front and rear is 43/57 %. Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, the Huracán Performante is propelled from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.9 seconds, and brakes from 100-0 km/h in 31 m.

Chassis and set-up

The Huracán Performante’s suspension system has been revised, reflecting the Performante’s purpose as a track and performance-oriented car. The suspension has been vertically stiffened by 10% over the Huracán coupé, via both springs and bars, and roll stiffness improved by 15%. The stiffness of the radial and axial arm bushings has been improved by 50%, significantly enhancing lateral control of the car.

The double wishbone system, front and rear, features passive dampers with optional magneto rheological suspension. Both systems, passive and active suspension, are designed to improve body and wheel control especially on track.

Electromechanical power steering is offered as standard with optional variable ratio Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS). Both the Huracán Performante’s electronic power steering and LDS have been significantly recalibrated to provide highly responsive steering with maximum driver feedback in all three driver modes: Strada, Sport and Corsa. In Corsa mode, designed for high performance and track environments, the steering offers a racing feeling with a significantly reduced steering ratio variation.

The permanent four-wheel drive system is tuned to maximize traction in all situations, working in conjunction with the ALA system and exploiting the new P Zero Corsa tires. ESC has been calibrated to smooth intervention and be less intrusive.

Lamborghini’s ANIMA system, controlling driver modes that customize the set-up of all the car’s systems, has also been revised to enhance the driving experience in each of the modes: Strada, Sport and Corsa. In Strada, traction and stability are prioritized. Sport offers a more rear-wheel drive orientation, with oversteer behavior and easier drifting. The Corsa driving mode is focused on top performance and handling to maximize results on track.

Wheels and Brakes

The Huracán Performante uses Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive Haldex fifth generation system, fully electronically controlled, with rear mechanical self-locking differential.

The Huracán Performante sits on specifically designed bronze 20” Narvi forged rims. The 20” Loge forged rims with central lock are also available. The Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, developed specifically for the Huracán Performante, are designed to optimize road holding in both on and off ALA settings, in track conditions and also to provide optimum performance in normal road conditions. A high performance track tire, the Pirelli Trofeo R, with street homologation is also available for the Huracán Performante.

The Huracán Performante’s extraordinary acceleration and top speed are matched by the performance of its highly responsive braking system, providing smooth, continuous braking from its ventilated and cross-drilled carbon ceramic discs. An hydraulic dual-circuit system with vacuum brake servo unit has six-piston brake calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear. The ABS also offers up drastically improved performance and pedal feedback to the driver via the P Zero Corsa tires.

Interior

The interior of the Huracán Performante reminds the driver of its lightweight and aerodynamic purpose. Air vents, paddles, door handles and the center console are created from Forged Composite. Referencing its racing heritage, lightweight, dark colored Alcantara fabric is used throughout, including on the sports seats where an optional ‘Y’ graphic can be lasered. Comfort seats with the same trim are available as an alternative.

Inside, the driver is fully in touch with the active aerodynamics’ activities: not only through the car’s performance, but from the special ALA graphic in the dashboard display which shows when and how ALA is working, including aero vectoring.

Inside the Huracán Performante, the new digital cockpit displays are configurable depending on driving mode selected: Strada, Sport or Corsa, with a display dedicated to the ALA detailing data on downforce and drag. The new cockpit layout supports Apple CarPlay and its iPhone apps including the Lamborghini telemetry system, which allows the driver to record, replay and study his own performance.

The Lamborghini Ad Personam Program enables the owner to personalize the Huracán Performante according to his individual taste.

Finally, the long wait is over, the new Lamborghini Huracán Performante was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and we now know the power output is 640hp; by losing 40kg in weight and adding Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (or ALA), the Performante managed to set a new world record for production cars at the famous Nürburgring in Germany by completing a lap in only 6:52.01.

Lamborghini Huracan LP 640-4 Performante Highlights

The Huracán Performante keeps the all-wheel-drive transmission from the LP610-4 but adds 30hp to the 5.2 Liter V10 engine while the special Pirelli tires and aero vectoring create a perfect track weapon while maintaining the road driving capabilities the Performante is the pinnacle of the V10 lineup at Lamborghini.

The hybrid chassis of the Huracán Performante receives a body made from aluminum combined with Lamborghini’s own Forged Composite material that allows the formation of more complex forms compared to regular carbon fiber; on the Performante, the front bumper, rear spoiler, engine cover, rear bumper, and lower diffuser are made from this new material.

Probably the most important innovation on the Huracán Performante is the new ALA, active aerodynamic system, developed and patented by Lamborghini this new system is hiding from view but allows the modification of airflow on this new V10. Flaps in the front spoiler are closed to create downforce at high-speed curves and under hard braking, but these open to allow air to flow through the undertray of the Performante.

Under the engine cover, a quartet of ducts is fitted, two that allow cooling of the large V10 engine while the other two work in conjunction with the large rear wing, which actually sits on hollow struts to allow airflow into the wing itself, with the flaps in the rear wing closed it acts like a normal, high downforce aerofoil but when open the drag is significantly reduced to allow a higher top speed.

The show car in Geneva is finished in a new shade called Arancio Anthaeus, a matt orange that contrasts nicely with the glossy Forged Composite sections and the combination of gloss and matt carbon fiber, a shade that perfectly shows the aggressive new styling found on the Huracán Performante a styling inspired by naked racing bikes, showing their frame and featuring large air intakes with no grilles.

At the front, the active aerodynamic section is shown in clear Forged Composite while the front spoiler is a very open design, clearly showing race track inspiration and maintaining a lightweight feeling.

The new engine cover has integrated air intakes together with a Plexiglas cover (to keep weight down compared to glass); this allows a clear view of the bronze-finished manifold covers of the high-power V10 engine, a finish we’ve seen on previous special edition Lamborghini before like the Diablo SE30 while the large rear wing with integrated air ducts could never be made from regular carbon fiber but required Forged Composite technology.

On the side, we notice the lower sills are finished in black while the Performante proudly shows the Italian tricolore colors and glossy black rear view mirrors as standard fitment the Huracán Performante receives a set of Narvi 20-inch forged wheels, finished in bronze; optional Loge wheels offer a center lock while Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires have been created specifically for the new Performante as an option you can mount Pirelli Trofeo R track tires note that these do come with a homologation for street use.

By raising the exhaust pipes higher onto the rear section of the Huracán, they not only look amazing, they also deliver a more intimidating sound together with less back pressure while the entire exhaust package has become lighter, too, compared to the LP610-4.

Inside the Huracán Performante, the use of Forged Composite continues on the air vents, paddles, door handles, and central console combined with lightweight Alcantara fabric. The sports seats can receive an optional Y pattern lasered onto them, but you can also opt for comfort seats if you prefer a smoother ride, a nice display on the dashboard shows the ALA in real-time.

Engine & Fuel Economy

The Lamborghini Huracan LP 640-4 Performante is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine that generates 640 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels through Lamborghini’s all-wheel-drive system.

With this powerful engine, the Huracan LP 640-4 Performante can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of over 202 mph. The car also features an active aerodynamics system called Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA), which improves high-speed stability and cornering performance.

As for fuel economy, the Huracan LP 640-4 Performante is not known for its efficiency, with an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. However, this is typical for high-performance supercars and is not a major concern for most buyers.

Interior & Exterior Design

The Lamborghini Huracan LP 640-4 Performante features a sleek and aerodynamic design with a sharp and aggressive front end, complete with a signature Lamborghini Y-shaped LED headlights. The body features extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber to reduce weight, and the car sits on 20-inch forged wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

The interior of the Huracan LP 640-4 Performante is just as impressive, with a driver-focused cabin and a luxurious feel. The cockpit is designed to maximize visibility and features premium leather and Alcantara materials with carbon fiber accents throughout. The car also has a high-tech infotainment system with a large touchscreen display, navigation, and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Huracan LP 640-4 Performante also has several available options and customizations, allowing buyers to personalize their cars with a wide range of colors, materials, and finishes. Some of the available options include a sport exhaust system, a lifting system for the front axle, and various interior and exterior color schemes.

The Lamborghini Huracán Performante has already proved its extraordinary capabilities ahead of its unveiling at Geneva Motor Show next week. On 5 October 2016, the Huracán Performante set a new production car lap record of 6:52.01 min on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

Following the day’s open sessions on the “Ring”, at 17.00 officials closed the track to other manufacturers. After official track checks this left just a 15-minute window for Lamborghini to make one attempt at the lap record with a production Huracán Performante, still in its development camouflage.

With Lamborghini test driver Marco Mapelli behind the wheel, who also drove the Aventador SV to its Nürburgring sub seven-minute lap time in 2015, the Huracán Performante warmed up its tires and made its rolling start, fitted inside and out with onboard cameras and telemetry to record the car’s lap. The Lamborghini team of R&D engineers, technicians and drivers, together with Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and Maurizio Reggiani, Board Member for Research & Development, watched the Performante disappear into the distance of the 20.6 km track.
In the sixth minute, the car was heard heading down the long straight with just three corners to go, and its audience counting down the seconds to watch the Huracán Performante pass over the line at 6:52.01 min.

“This was an incredible and emotional moment,” says Stefano Domenicali. “Together with Maurizio Reggiani we agreed during the car’s development that with the technical and performance prowess of the Huracán Performante, not only was a sub seven-minute lap at the Nordschleife possible, but the lap record too. We wanted to achieve the Nürburgring victory in advance of the Performante’s launch, which was a challenge in terms of weather and availability of the Nordschleife. Not only did we take the lap record, we took it by some seconds!
“To make this happen is something that every one of the R&D team who worked on this car can share in: it will forever be a defining moment in their careers,” concludes Stefano Domenicali. “I am so proud of everything achieved by Lamborghini people that day and extremely privileged to have witnessed it.”

The Huracán Performante features innovations in aerodynamics and lightweight engineering that, combined with its improved power plant, its four-wheel drive system, its Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale and a dedicated set-up, allows superior track performance to be maximized while delivering the most engaging and dynamic road drive.

Joining the Lamborghini development team at the Nürburgring were representatives from Pirelli, responsible for development of tires specifically for the Huracán Performante: the same Pirelli Trofeo R tires available on cars delivered to owners.

The Huracán Performante is revealed officially by Automobili Lamborghini at Geneva Motor Show on the first press day, 7 March 2017, 8.55 am at the Lamborghini stand. Follow the unveiling in Geneva at live.lamborghini and join the conversation with #Huracan Performante.

Automobili Lamborghini SpA has been showing the new Huracan Performante during VIP events at various high profile dealers around the world, and we’ve been told the new active aerodynamics or ALA made the Performante perform beyond expectations on the famous Nürburgring in Germany:

Only a few more days until we will know which lap time this new V10 set on the track, and possibly a public unveil to show the new styling … however, an almost totally uncamouflaged Huracan Performante has been captured by photographers during road testing.

These are important times for Lamborghini, with the new, mid-life refresh of the Aventador in the form of the new Aventador S, the Huracan Performante up soon and the Urus being shown later this year … I’m certain the stress levels are rising at Sant’Agata, some very challenging opportunities lie ahead.

If the Urus is the success they need and sales reach 3,500 units per year it is almost certain there will be a fourth model in the lineup in the future, let’s hope this will become a V12 front-engined GT with a 2+2 seating, or even four seats … a nice heir to the Espada and the Estoque concept.

While some high-profile customers are being shown the soon to be released Lamborghini Huracan Performante during VIP events, the journalists from Automobili Magazine were offered the chance of actually driving a prototype of this new lightweight V10 edition on the famous Imola race track last December.

Lamborghini’s chief of Research and Development, Maurizio Reggiani was present for this event, and he could give some amazing information on just about how special the new Huracan Performante actually is … a street legal Super Trofeo racecar that has been modified extensively compared to the regular Huracan V10 model.

The official public introduction of the Lamborghini Huracan Performante is foreseen for the 2017 Geneva Motor Show next March, and while in the Gallardo series the Superleggera and Performante labels were used for a lighter model with a slight increase in power … with the Huracan Performante we are looking at an almost completely different car altogether.

<img decoding="async" class="wp-image-15926 size-full" src="https://www. Lambocars. Com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huracan_performante_prototype_drive_8. Jpg" alt="https://www. Lambocars. Com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huracan_performante_prototype_drive_8. Com

The Huracan Performante will be the first Lamborghini to bring us ALA, short for Active Lamborghini Aerodynamics, while driving the aerodynamics of this V10 can be modified to offer better cornering, handling, and high-speed stability … most of this smart system is hidden on this Raging Bull.

First up some figures on power for this new V10 model … maximum power output has been increased from 610hp to 670hp (a 10% increase) while torque went from 580Nm to 630Nm, and that extra power coupled to the active aerodynamic system makes all the difference when it comes to driving at the limit.

While cornering at high speed the aero vectoring system will shift load onto the inner wheel by changing the position of flaps at the front, axle lift is effectively countered by closing these front flaps using a fast, single electric motor.

<img decoding="async" class="wp-image-15927 size-full" src="https://www. Lambocars. Com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huracan_performante_prototype_drive_15. Jpg" alt="https://www. Lambocars. Com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/huracan_performante_prototype_drive_15. Com

The rear wing is another masterpiece of aerodynamic design, consisting of a hollow profile with two separate sections and narrow slots running the full width of this aerofoil … the struts are an intricate part of this system … at speed the air entering the rear wing gets compressed before it exits, creating more downforce … in the Sport setting the air flaps open to increase downforce up to 180 Km/h (112 Mph) while above 310 Km/h (193 Mph) the rear flap opens to reduce drag and offer a higher top speed.

In the Strada setting these flaps open at 70 Km/h (45 Mph) and when going faster than 310 Km/h the fins in at the front close for a reduction in lift … however, in the impressive Corsa mode the front to rear and left to right setting of the angle on these fins is constantly monitored and altered to get the optimum performance during acceleration, both lateral and longitudinal.

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante is also about 40 Kg (88 lbs) lighter compared to the standard LP610-4 model and comes with bespoke Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires … still four-wheel drive but with a recalibrated setting for both AWD and ESP, a new, more open exhaust system, firmer suspension and an even quicker 7-speed transmission … all this results in a rumored top speed of no less than 340 Km/h (210 Mph) while acceleration from 0 to 100 Km/h will only take 2.90 seconds (compared to 325 Km/h (202 Mph) and 3.20 seconds on the Huracan LP610-4.

<img decoding="async" class="wp-image-17362 size-full" src="https://www.
With the optional Bastet center-lock wheels now available for the regular Lamborghini Huracan models, it comes as no surprise that the high-performance, lightweight version would go for race inspired center-lock rims too, just like the V12 Superveloce flagship did with the Diantus wheels … now it seems the Huracan Performante could receive a bespoke set with five thin spokes that end in a wide V towards the outer rim, a rather aggressive styling that suits this special version of the V10.

Still, no official information has been published about this new, upcoming Huracan model, we believe she might be introduced in March 2017 at the Geneve Motor Show and that power will probably by uprated to 640 hp while overall weight could be lowered with 100kg or more by using even more lightweight carbon fiber and Forged Composite material, both inside and on the outside of the Huracan Performante.

Another rumor mentions the use of active aerodynamics on the 2017 Huracan Performante, mostly invisible from the outside, but integrate into the underbody … even the large rear wing is told to be an integral part of this system to optimize airflow at speed.

With a lightweight version of the Huracan close to being unveiled it is safe to say there will also be a Spyder version of this top of the line V10 model, so we’ve rendered one for you to admire … imagine the thunder from those high-mounted exhausts with the top down …

Last week several spy shots of a heavily camouflaged test mule were captured on the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany, a car that looks like the Lamborghini Huracan but with a rather aggressive looking aerodynamic kit, inspired by the Aventador Superveloce while retaining a very unique identity, especially when it comes to the position of the exhaust pipes.

Rumor is we are looking at the lightweight, street legal race version of the Lamborghini V10 model, the Huracán Superleggera … more power and less weight for a car that already is very, very fast in standard trim when she has 610 hp and all-wheel drive … but will the Superleggera come with AWD too?

When you look closely at the test mule you will notice the section under the taillights is taken from the Huracán LP580-2 version, and that is a rear-wheel drive only model, so perhaps the Superleggera will come in RWD too … which would really make it a street legal Super Trofeo race car as that one is an LP620-2, hence RWD.

The next question is weight loss, usually a Superleggera or a Superveloce version is lighter compared to the regular production model … about 100 kg is lost by using a lot more carbon fiber than normal. So the Huracán Superleggera will most likely feature full carbon fiber door panels with only a strap to pull and close them, also the carbon fiber sports seats will be used with possibly an option to go for ‘comfort seats’ while several parts of the body will be made lighter so the overall ‘dry weight’ will be at least 100kg less than the normal Huracán LP580-2.

This brings us to probably the most important question … what about power? With the Gallardo the power increase between the regular model and the Superleggera was only 10 hp, will Lamborghini continue this evolution with the Huracán and give us an LP590-2 or an LP620-2 … who knows?

The problem is the competition has become rather fierce on the market, think about the McLaren 675LT with 675hp or the Ferrari 488 GTB with 660hp … so how much power should Lamborghini unleash for the V10 Superleggera? Rumor has it we’ll be looking at anything between 620 and 650 hp, do keep in mind we’re still talking about a naturally aspirated V10 engine, no turbocharger or supercharger, and no additional hybrid engine power.

When looking at the Gallardo Superleggera again you’ll notice there is a restriction on the exterior shades that are available for the lightweight model, on the Huracan that would mean a color list like this: Verde Mantis, Giallo Midas, Arancio Borealis, Grigio Telesto, Nero Noctis and Bianco Monocerus, most likely Rosso Mars would be added and perhaps the special Blu LeMans shade as seen on the Huracán Spyder.

As the Aventador Superveloce comes with a black Lamborghini script at the rear I think the Huracan Superleggera might go down the same route, it does look really nice on the lighter shades, but on a black car I’m not sure it is the best choice.

When Lamborghini will unveil the Huracán Superleggera hasn’t been officially announced, but chances are we will have to wait until the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, with dealer demonstrators shortly after that and customer deliveries toward the Summer of 2017 … about a year from now.

Just imagine a Lamborghini Huracán Spyder with the Superleggera evolution, we’ve seen that before on the Gallardo too, and it was called the Performante … would be great if Lamborghini would also create a Huracán Performante shortly after unveiling the Superleggera.

The Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 has seen her public unveil at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show in early March, and the response was impressive to say the least, the order book has been filling up ever since the car was shown during special VIP events ahead of the Geneva Show, by mid February 700 firm orders were already booked … by the time the car reached Geneva the count was already over 1,000 units, so it is obvious the new V10 Huracan is an instant sales success … even before the first customer car has been delivered or any journalist testing was performed.

In early statements Automobili Lamborghini SpA mentioned they are not going down the same route as with the Gallardo, releasing countless different evolutions and special editions … the line up for the Huracan should be a lot smaller, we now have the initial LP610-4 model that will remain the base until a facelift evolution will come around … next up will be a topless version, most likely called the Huracan LP610-4 Spyder that might see the light of day as early as 2015 already and naturally a lightweight, more powerful version will be required too, something like a Huracan LP650-4 Superleggera that will be unveiled relatively soon too as it will be the base for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series race car to succeed the current Gallardo based car.

That means things could get really interesting in 2015 already, the 2014 Blancpain Super Trofeo series will use the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera based car until the end of the season with the world champion race that combines the winners for the European, the Asian and the American Super Trofeo Series to decide who takes the title of world champion … but that also means the 2015 season could require a brand new car, based on the Huracan and preferably with more power and less weight so the Squadra Corse department in Sant’Agata can develop their new race car in time.

But lets focus on the road going Huracan LP610-4 Spyder first, I guess the canvas foldaway roof from the Gallardo will no longer be used and a lightweight carbon fibre unit will take its place for the Huracan, when open the V10 Bull should show a very nice and clean profile but I still rendered it with stylish roll-over bars behind the seats, this breaks the otherwise straight line from front to rear and it is a valuable safety measure to protect the driver and passenger in case of an accident.

Naturally the entire rear section has been modified to convert the closed coupé into an open top Spyder, the shoulder mounted air intakes are lowered but still there and functional while the engine cover is also lowered behind the seats, I went for the glass option cover so people can admire the beautiful V10 engine surrounded by the new Lamborghini Forged Composite material … and while I was thinking about the Huracan LP650-4 Superleggera I decided to create the convertible counterpart too … check out the renders for a Lamborghini Huracan LP650-4 Performante I created, finished either in Bianco Icarus or Rosso Mars.

Production of the Lamborghini Gallardo has reached over 13,000 units since the V10 Bull was introduced nearly 10 years ago, a successor to this very successful model is in the making with a worldwide premiere in 2014 so for now you’ll have to do with a further improvement of the current model lineup.

If you take a look at the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera and the open top cousin named the Performante you might wonder what could be even further improved on these top of the line models well Automobili Lamborghini SpA has the perfect answer now : the Edizione Tecnica taking the lightweight Gallardo to the next level.

Already at the top of the line, both the Superleggera and the Performante can now benefit from further improvements and individual styling. With the Edizione Tecnica upgrade the customer gets the high mounted rear wing as standard fitment while the carbon ceramic disk brakes are installed too to make the model one of the reference cars in this segment the power to weight ratio is a stellar 2,35.

But things get even more interesting when you look at the Gallardo Edizione Tecnica as only three shades are available, all in combination with some contrasting sections. First up is the very popular Nero Nemesis body with the roof pillars and the inside of the front air intakes finished in Arancio Argos, the second option is Bianco Canopus with the pillars and air intakes also finished in Arancio Argos and a final possibility is actually the inversed first option, a body in Arancio Argos but this time the pillars and intakes at the front are finished in Nero Nemesis.

In case this isn’t special enough the customer can always turn to the Ad Personam program available on all new Gallardo models in this case the sky is the limit and you can really create a one of a kind Raging Bull just for you as a client.

And it gets even better when you go for the Gallardo LP570-4 Performante with the Edizione Tecnica option, check out the photos of a red convertible in our updated image gallery.

Less Weight, More Fascination

With the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, Lamborghini is setting a new benchmark in the most fascinating automobile segment of all – the open-top super sports car. As “Performante”, the Gallardo Spyder is even lighter thanks to CFRP technology, even more agile and even more dynamic. The new Spyder Performante is an automotive high-performance athlete that combines sheer sporting excellence and extreme performance with that unique open-air feeling that only a soft-top spanning the ten-cylinder power unit can offer. Ultimately, every spin in the Spyder Performante is like a journey into the eye of the storm.

The Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder is already at the peak of its game, bearing testament to the lightweight engineering approach pursued by the Lamborghini brand. Nevertheless, the engineers in Sant’Agata Bolognese managed to reduce the weight of the new Spyder Performante by a further 65 kilograms (143 lbs). The open super sports car tips the scales with a dry weight of no more than 1.485 kilograms (3.274 lbs) – a new best for that highly exclusive market segment occupied by Lamborghini.

Just like its “brother”, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, the light weight of the Spyder Performante is due in large part to exterior and interior components made from carbon-fiber. These carbon-composite materials are perfectly suited to super sports cars because they combine reduced weight with improved technical characteristics. Performance is optimized as a result of lower weight, while CO2 emissions are reduced. Lamborghini has been leading the industry for 30 years in the application of CFRP, and now the brand is expanding that lead even further.

The V10 power unit with a displacement of 5.2 liters generates 419 kW (570 hp) in the Spyder Performante and guarantees breathtaking performance – it catapults the open-top LP 570-4 from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a mere 3.9 seconds and keeps on going to a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph). The engine with “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” gasoline direct injection boasts extremely impressive pulling power and a virtually endless rev range that delivers a constant supply of spine-tingling acoustics.

The Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante is an uncompromising driving machine. Its chassis, with its mighty brakes, is a work of great precision, while the new 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tires are extremely lightweight. The LP 570-4 Performante brings a new meaning to the term “Spyder”.

Design and aerodynamics
The beauty of power

The elegance of every Lamborghini rests on its extreme power and precise function. The design of the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, too, concentrates on the sheer essence of the design language – the bodyshell is pure sculpture and free of superfluous decoration. Its profile follows the contours of a dynamic wedge measuring 4.39 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, but only 1.18 meters high. Open or closed, the top of the Spyder Performante can handle the very highest speeds.

From the very first glance, the Spyder Performante is clearly recognizable as the open-top counterpart to the highly acclaimed and successful Gallardo Superleggera. The exterior modifications are all directed at increasing the aerodynamic effect in comparison to the Gallardo Spyder. Working closely with wind tunnel experts, designers from Lamborghini’s Centro Stile remodeled the front bumper – three-dimensional, deeply recessed elements form trapezoidal frames for the large air intakes. Together with the V-shaped, sharply defined nose and the LED daytime running lights, the black elements give the front end a razor-sharp look. The design also optimizes the supply of cooling air and improves the downforce on the front axle.

Modifications to the fully-covered underbody, new sill elements and a redesigned diffuser incorporating four large tailpipes also help to achieve better aerodynamic results. A large optional rear spoiler is also available for the Spyder Performante.

The bodyshell
Intelligent lightweight engineering with Carbon Fiber

Its bodyshell is made from aluminum, with cast node elements and extruded profile forming an extremely stiff framework into which the aluminum panels are integrated. The spaceframe structure is extremely impact-resistant and forms the basis for the super sports car’s precise handling.

Against this background, the task of reducing weight by a further 65 kilograms (143 lbs) compared to the Gallardo Spyder presented a huge challenge to the engineers. The Lamborghini experts handled the task as they usually do – with hi-tech competence and aesthetic flair. With its minimal weight and extremely high stiffness, carbon-fiber is the ideal material for a super sports car. The large panel covering the soft-top, engine and transmission is a complex and extremely high-quality carbon fiber component. Engineers also selected carbon-fiber for the rear spoiler, sills, diffuser, parts of the underbody paneling and the fine exterior mirror casings.

Carbon-fiber materials in the interior

Altogether, carbon-fiber components make up around 40% of the 65 kilograms saved. In the interior, too, engineers aimed to reduce weight as much as possible. The center tunnel cover, the door panels and the surround of the e-gear automated manual transmission lever are made from carbonfiber. The high-end material is also used for the sports seats’ shells, where they make a significant contribution to overall weight reduction.

Just like the rest of the cockpit, the sports seats are clad in lightweight Alcantara instead of leather. However, weight reduction at Lamborghini certainly does not mean sacrifice – the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante still comes with air conditioning and electric windows as standard.

The extent to which Lamborghini values the very highest level of meticulous craftsmanship is immediately evident in the interior of the Spyder Performante. All parts are perfectly designed and assembled down to the very last detail; high-quality materials indulge the senses. The interior retains a sporty black finish in Alcantara. As contrasting colors for seat stitching, customers can choose from green, yellow, orange and two shades of gray. They match exterior paint finishes in Giallo Midas, Arancio Borealis, Grigio Telesto, Nero Noctis and Bianco Monocerus.

The engine
3.9 seconds from zero to 100 km/h

In the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, LP stands for “Longitudinale Posteriore” and refers to the orientation of the V10 engine – which is mounted longitudinally behind the driver, just like every Lamborghini engine. The number 570 refers to the maximum power output in hp, which equates to 419 kW and is available at 8,000 rpm. Equally impressive is the pulling power – the torque curve peaks at 540 Nm (398,3 ft lbs) at 6,500 rpm. The increase of 7 kW (10 hp) is the result of the new dedicated engine management strategy.

The V10 has a displacement of 5,204 cm3 and achieves a specific output of 80.5 kW (109.6 hp) per liter. Special features on this long-stroke engine with an aluminum crankcase include dry sump lubrication and a cylinder angle of 90 degrees. Both solutions lower the center of gravity, thus improving handling dynamics. To ensure ideal combustion chamber fill, the engine has an adjustable intake manifold and continuous control of the chain-driven camshafts.

The crankshaft is conceived as a dual-plane crank – the connecting rods of opposing pistons share one bearing. This configuration delivers alternating ignition intervals of 54 and 90 degrees; a unique sequence that is the reason for the compelling, racing car-like sound of the V10. As the revs rise, resounding bass notes are overlaid with razor sharp harmonics.

The powerful V10, combined with the model’s weight reduction, gives the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante breathtaking performance. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes just 3.9 seconds. Drive continues relentlessly to a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph).

Power transmission
Traction without compromise

The Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante comes with the e-gear transmission operated via steering wheel paddles, as standard. The automated system with electronic management shifts through its six gears extremely smoothly and far more quickly than could be achieved by human reflexes.

The e-gear control unit has three operating modes, two of which are also available in automatic. The “Thrust mode” delivers maximum off-the-line performance and is programmed to manage starting revs of around 5,000 rpm with minimal wheel slip.

Every single kilometer in the Gallardo Spyder Performante is utterly thrilling – not least because of the relentless traction in practically every situation. This is largely attributable to the four driven wheels, as indicated by the number 4 in the model name.

The permanent all-wheel drive incorporates a central viscous coupling and a 45 percent limited slip differential on the rear axle. In normal circumstances, the power delivered by the V10 is channeled with a ratio of 30:70 to the front and rear axles. The weight distribution of the superlight Gallardo is 43/57 percent front/rear.

In 1993, the Diablo VT was the first Italian super sports car with an all-wheel drive set-up, and Lamborghini has been steadily consolidating its leadership ever since. In fact, thanks to the car’s superior traction, Lamborghini drivers can accelerate earlier out of a bend than drivers of rear-wheel drive cars.

The running gear
Even firmer, even more precise

The Gallardo Spyder Performante is a highly-concentrated driving machine – it thrills with breathtaking cornering speeds and fast, immediate reflexes. Its handling is always precise, stable and predictable.

The running gear layout is derived directly from motorsport. The suspension features aluminum double wishbones, while the precise rack-and-pinion steering keeps the driver closely connected with the road. Its specific set-up enables the running gear to reach its full dynamic potential.

Another special feature of the Gallardo Spyder Performante is the incredibly light 19-inch wheels – identical to those on the Gallardo Superleggera – which save 13 kilograms (28.6 lb). The wheel bearings and bolts are made from titanium and are also incredibly light and stiff. The tires are 235/35 at the front and 295/30 at the rear and come from the Pirelli P Zero Corsa series. Developed specifically for the new top model in the Gallardo range, they are closely related to pure race rubber.

Behind the huge wheels are brakes that deliver uncompromising stopping power and are managed by the standard-fit ESP stability control system. The front wheels are served by aluminum eight-piston calipers, with four-piston units at the rear. The ventilated brake discs have diameters of 365 and 356 millimeters (ø 14.37 x 1.34 in and 14.02 x 1.26 in) respectively. As an optional extra, Lamborghini can fit extremely fade-resistant and lightweight discs made from carbon-fiber ceramic with six-piston calipers up front. The front ceramic discs have a diameter of 380 millimeters (15 x 1.5 in).

Equipment
Hi-tech for road and track

Alongside its specialized carbon-fiber lightweight components, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante is delivered ex-works with an array of other high-end features. Highlights include the e-gear transmission – the manual gearbox is available at no additional cost – the dedicated chassis set-up, the Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tires and the sports seats. Alcantara upholstery and a hand-stitched steering wheel clad in suede set accents in the interior.

The range of special equipment is quite particular. For the interior, Lamborghini offers special floor mats and leather steering wheels, a storage package and an alarm system. An additional carbon-fiber package includes center console and instrument panel trim, the parking brake handle, the lower part of the steering wheel and the door handles.

Further special equipment enhances comfort and convenience – the multimedia navigation system, the lifting system for raising the front of the car, a garage door opener and a rear view camera. Customers wanting to personalize their Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante can refer to the wideranging options of Lamborghini’s “Ad Personam” individualization program.

Competence
New development center for carbon-fiber technology

With this year’s presentation of the best-in-class Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera at the Geneva Auto Salon and the unveiling of the ultra-light Sesto Elemento at the Paris Motor Show, Lamborghini has again displayed its clear leadership in the field of carbon fiber technology. Here, Lamborghini is building on a thirty-year history – in 1983, Lamborghini used carbon fiber reinforced plastics to build the famous Countach. The engine cover panel of the Gallardo Spyder and Spyder Performante is one of the largest CFRP components with class A surface quality in the automotive world. As a 100 percent subsidiary of AUDI AG, the Italian super sports car manufacturer further benefits from the lightweight construction competence of its parent company.

The company is now working steadily to expand its worldwide leading position. In the new Advanced Composites Research Center (ACRC) at company headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is working on innovative construction and production methods for carbon-fiber elements in automobile design.

The Advanced Composite Research Center in Sant’Agata Bolognese secures leadership in the research into innovative materials and production methods for carbon-fiber reinforced plastics with low production volumes. More than 30 experts work here on the development of vehicle components of all types and sizes. The specialists build prototypes and their associated tools, and devise optimum production methods. With sophisticated systems developed largely in-house, engineers can precisely and reliably simulate the technical characteristics and collision behavior of the components. Thanks to the extensively patented “RTM Lambo” process, Lamborghini is able to manufacture CFRP parts to the highest quality, precision and surface finish under low pressure and at relatively low temperatures. Higher process speeds, lower costs and simple tooling are further benefits.

The Lamborghini Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory (ACSL) at the University of Washington tests the behavior of a range of materials and technologies in line with the principles adopted by the aviation industry. Scientists in Seattle are working closely with the Technical Development Department at Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Lamborghini once again demonstrated its outstanding expertise in carbon-fiber lightweight engineering with the Sesto Elemento concept car – the extent of the application of innovative materials is unparalleled. The overall weight of the Sesto Elemento – despite its V10 power plant and all-wheel drive – was limited to just 999 kilograms. Every new Lamborghini will benefit from the advanced technologies in the Sesto Elemento.

The myth lives on –
The open-top super sports cars from Lamborghini

The history of open-top Lamborghinis began with small volumes. In 1965, the company built just two of the 350 GTS, the open-top version of the first model to be produced in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Even more tragic from today’s perspective is that only one copy of the exquisite P400 Miura Roadster from 1968 was ever built. Lamborghini unveiled its first series production open-top in 1976 with the Silhouette – its V8 mid-engine with 250 hp offered refined performance, while a removable roof delivered that topless feeling. Its successor was the Jalpa Speedster, which was launched in 1986. The V8 power unit with a 90-degree cylinder bank angle was once again mounted behind the seats, albeit enlarged to 3.5 liters – which, with the same output, guaranteed much better torque.

In 1992 it was an open-top Lamborghini that was anointed the hero of the Geneva Motor Show – low-set with a sharply angled windscreen and an amazingly powerful looking rear end, the Diablo Roadster cut an impressive figure on the Lamborghini stand. The series production version came in 1995 – with its 5.7 liter twelve-cylinder and all-wheel drive, it was a true super car. Its output of 492 hp ensured it a top speed of 323 km/h with the roof open or closed. The rear-wheel drive Diablo SV Roadster followed in 1998. Finally, the Murciélago Roadster made its appearance in 2005 as a super-modern interpretation of the open-top twelve-cylinder.

The true hero among the open-top Lamborghinis, however, is by far and away the Gallardo Spyder – at least, when it comes to the number produced. The first generation appeared in 2006, with a ten-cylinder engine, 520 hp and an electro-hydraulic roof engineered for high-speed driving. The second generation followed in 2008 – the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder. Its designed had been sharpened even further, its output increased to 560 hp and many detail improvement made throughout, demonstrating the dedication that Lamborghini applies to perfecting its super sports cars.

Just when you might expect that Automobili Lamborghini SpA is putting all it’s resources into the new flagship that will be unveiled in early 2011 they introduce yet another Gallardo derivative into the line up. The Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante makes it’s appearance out of the blue, a lightweight version of the well known, beautiful LP560-4 Spyder somewhat like the LP570-4 Superleggera we’ve been given during the latest Geneva Auto Show.

You might ask yourself why they didn’t just call this car the Spyder Superleggera. I don’t know to be honest, and actually ‘Performante’ doesn’t sound too bad now does it, perhaps they kept the Superleggera name for the closed coupé version.

The Performante has received the more powerfull 570 Bhp V10 from the Superleggera and it also shed some extra weight compared to the LP560-4 Spyder, so performance is surely up, even if the original 560 Bhp Spyder didn’t have much to complain about in that area anyway.

Inside we are greeted with lots of Alcantara and Carbon Fiber, the exterior rear view mirrors are made of lightweight carbon fiber and the large rear wing seen on the Superleggera is now also available as an option on the Spyder Performante.

A total of 65 Kgs has been lost on the Spyder Performante, add this to the 570 Bhp (419 Kw) and you are in for a real treat when taking this Spyder for a spin, acceleration to 100 Km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds only to top out at a maximum speed of 324 Km/h … with your hair in the wind or should we call this ‘gale force’ from now on?

Encounter this Performante on the open road and you immediately recognize the fact this isn’t a regular Gallardo, a deep front spoiler is present, special LED daylight driving lights and black sections that stand out nicely on the limited number of color available on this car (yellow, orange, gray, black and naturally white) too bad the bright green isn’t available, but I’m sure you’ll be able to convince the nice people at the ‘Ad Personam’ department to have your Spyder Performante finished just the way you like it if your bank manager will also like this option is up to you I guess.

Weight reduction at Lamborghini doesn’t mean you end up with a Spartan race car for road use, nope, you still get air conditioning and electric windows behind the steering wheel while seated in some of the most beautiful sports seats I’ve ever seen.

On the Spyder Performante the by now well known e-Gear transmission is standard as it is able to shift through the six gears much quicker than any human on the planet there is also a ‘thrust mode’ to impress people when you drive away, it allows you to apply maximum revs (about 5000 rpm) and start with minimal wheel spin how many times you can perform this ‘mini’ burn out before you have to replace the gearbox isn’t listed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t to be used on every occasion.

Those amazing looking wheels from the Superleggera make there appearance on the Performante too, note that these take away 13 Kgs each from the overall weight of the Gallardo, surely worth while, and they look nice too what more could you wish for ?

It is safe to say that Lamborghini is taking the carbon fiber route for it’s new models, we’ve seen the stunning Sesto Elemento in Paris, a sneak peak at the future (limited production is still being talked about apparently) and with their in-house development center they can experiment all they want, I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of carbon fiber used on the upcoming V12 flagship replacement early next year.

If you are looking for an exotic, ultra impressive super car that allows you to drive top down, look no further and get your order in for this brand new Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante, I’m sure the waiting list will only grow in the next few weeks, so better be on the list as soon as possible.
