The extremely beautiful LP560-4 is now available in both closed coupé form and in stunning Spyder version, but Automobili Lamborghini SpA decided it was time to introduce a new evolution of their very successful V10 model.

They call it the LP550-2, for 550 horsepower that is put on the rear wheels only this time, no more four wheel traction on this new model, a departure from the fashion that has been set in 2001 with the intro of the Murciélago V12 flagship, as since it’s unveiling there hasn’t been another Lamborghini that didn’t put it’s power on all four wheels.

Do note that this new LP550-2 will become the new base model in the impressive Lamborghini range, pricing hasn’t been unveiled but expect it to be around 10% less expensive compared to it’s LP560-4 counterpart.

The Gallardo LP550-2 will be offered in a selection of eight colors only, all of them will feature a racing stripe in the middle of the bodywork running from the front over the roof right up to the rear this white stripe also returns in the leather upholstery by the way.

The seats will feature a similar stripe from top to bottom, while the central console and dashboard will also receive their share of striping to complement perfectly with the race-inspired exterior of this brand-new Raging Bull.

No official statement has been made as to when you will be able to put down your deposit for one of these limited edition models yes you are reading this right, the LP550-2 will be limited to only 250 units worldwide, which would make it a very interesting deal if the price is right.

Performance

Some early reports talk about an acceleration time of 3.9 seconds to reach the magical 100 Km/h mark, which would mean that the LP550-2 is only marginally slower than it’s LP560-4 sibling, which puts down a 3.7 seconds time to reach the same speed.

We will have to wait for a formal, official statement as to when and for how much you will be able to put this impressive looking evolution on your driveway, but I don’t think we will have to wait for the IAA in Frankfurt for more information on this newborn from Sant’Agata.
