---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1916 | 1910s | Ferruccio Lamborghini (Biography) | https://www.lambocars.com/lambonews/ferruccio_lamborghini_a_biography.html | Ferruccio Lamborghini lived from 28 April 1916 till 20 February 1993. He was an Italian industrialist. In 1963, he created Automobili Lamborghini, a maker of high-end sports cars in Sant'Agata Bolognese. | ||
1963 | 1960s | 350 GTV | https://www.lambocars.com/350-gtv/ | At the 1963 Turin Auto Show, the 350 GTV showed Lamborghini could create cars (it made tractors before that). The GTV had a striking new body design by Franco Scaglione. The prototype that started it all. | ||
1964 | 1960s | 350 GT | https://www.lambocars.com/350-gt/ | Bianchi Anderloni would ‘convert’ the 350 GTV prototype into a viable production model, which we all know as the 350 GT. Everything on the exterior was changed. In the first official year of production, 1964 a total of 13 Lamborghini 350 GT were delivered to customers, the very first car was finished in silver metallic while later 350 GT featured a larger front air intake with two horizontal divisions and the bumper was split in two sections leaving the center open to allow for much better cooling, depending on where the 350 GT was sold some bumpers came with overrides for better protection. | ||
1965 | 1960s | 350 GTS | https://www.lambocars.com/350-gts/ | Building on the 350 GT which was launched in 1964, Lamborghini then had two roadster variants made up by Carrozzeria Touring for show duty. Unfortunately Lamborghini never went into production of a roadster. | ||
1965 | 1960s | 3500 GTZ by Zagato | https://www.lambocars.com/3500-gtz-by-zagato/ | In 1965, Zagato was considered a top design company, so it is easy to understand why they selected an equally noble chassis to design and build a new body on. This design became the Lamborghini 3500 GTZ. It was presented on the 1965 London Auto Show, finished in white over a black plastic (vinyl) interior, this was car number 0310 with engine number 0301. | ||
1966 | 1960s | Bizzarrini P538 | https://www.lambocars.com/bizzarrini-p538/ | Probably some of the most expensive Lamborghini models in existence today are these P538, in fact this is a car that wasn't built at the Lamborghini factory but by one of the people who were there in the very early days, Mr. Giotto Bizzarrini himself. The latter designed the engine for the 350 GTV, and detuned it afterwards to fit the 350 GT needs of a quiet Gran Turismo. After that, Giotto Bizzarrini worked with Renzo Rivolta on his 'Iso', but later decided to build a race car, this became the P538. | ||
1966 | 1960s | 400 GT Flying Star II | https://www.lambocars.com/400-gt-flying-star-ii/ | One of the very last cars designed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera was this unique Flying Star II show car. It was built on a shortened 400 GT chassis and had a controversial body by Carlo Anderloni. | ||
1966 | 1960s | 400 GT Monza | https://www.lambocars.com/400-gt-monza/ | The 400 GT Monza was a one-off sports car that took its inspiration from the Lamborghini 400 GT and features a distinctive bodywork design. This was a two-seat sports car that was built for a client in the US. | ||
1966 | 1960s | 400 GT 2+2 | https://www.lambocars.com/400-gt-22/ | This new model accommodated a rear set of seats that couldn’t fit in the original design. Touring had to pay considerable attention to increasing interior space without losing the 350 GT’s elegant proportions. | ||
1966 | 1960s | 400 GT | https://www.lambocars.com/400-gt/ | The 400 GT was restyled and made roomier vs its predecessor, resulting in the first proper 2+2 Lamborghini four-seater model. Only 23 of the 400 GT were made, an interim stop gap between 350 GT and 400 GT 2+2. | ||
1966 | 1960s | Miura P400 | https://www.lambocars.com/miura-p400/ | The first supercar definitely stood out in looks, tech and performance. The Miura was the fastest production car in the world with a top speed of 163 mph and 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. It set new standards. | ||
1967 | 1960s | Marzal | https://www.lambocars.com/lamborghini-marzal/ | Body designed by Marcello Gandini for Bertone. The car was put on a lengthened Miura chassis, it was designated the TP200 Marzal. This car was powered by half a Miura engine, the V-12 was cut in half lengthwise, resulting in a two-litre, in-line six, and was mounted transversely in the rear. | ||
1967 | 1960s | Espada prototype | https://www.lambocars.com/espada-prototype/ | Initially the original Espada prototype was left at the factory, over time the interior was removed, the engine and wheels were taken from it and the car was left out in the open air on a field behind the factory. Today we can admire this unique car at the Museo Ferruccio Lamborghini | ||
1968 | 1960s | Espada GT (Series I) | https://www.lambocars.com/espada-gt-series-i/ | Beautiful design, luxurious interior, large size and powerful V12, the Espada was the embodiment of the Italian GT. Wheels were Campagnolo alloys on knock-off hubs. 186 were made before 1970. | ||
1968 | 1960s | Islero 400 GT | https://www.lambocars.com/islero-400-gt/ | The car debuted at the 1968 Geneva Auto Show. The 340 bhp, 3.9L DOHC V-12 engine had six Weber carburetors, a five-speed manual transmission and four-wheel independent suspension. | ||
1968 | 1960s | Miura Roadster or Zn75 | https://www.lambocars.com/miura-roadster-or-zn75/ | There was only one factory built Roadster and it was created in 1968 by Marcello Gandini and Bertone for the Geneva Show. It featured larger air intakes, lower roll-over hoop, different taillights and a larger spoiler. | ||
1969 | 1960s | Islero 400 GTS | https://www.lambocars.com/islero-400-gts/ | In 1969, Lamborghini improved the 2+2 with a more powerful 350 bhp V12 engine and upgrades to the mechanics, aesthetics and interior. The Islero S was a much better car than the 400 GTS. | ||
1969 | 1960s | Miura P400 S | https://www.lambocars.com/miura-p400-s/ | The Miura was updated in 1969 to the Miura S. It got a modified rear suspension and new state of the art series 70 Pirelli Cinturato radials. It also used heavier-gauge steel on the chassis to reduce flexing. | ||
1970 | 1970s | Espada GTE (Series II) | https://www.lambocars.com/espada-gte-series-ii/ | Outside the only change was the deletion of the grille covering the vertical glass tail panel. Inside changes were substantial: all-new dash, center console and steering wheel. Engine was also tweaked. | ||
1970 | 1970s | Jarama GT 400 | https://www.lambocars.com/jarama-gt-400/ | The Lamborghini Jarama GT 400 made its way into production in 1970 as a replacement for the Islero and was Lamborghini’s last front-engined V12 grand tourer. Shorter than the Espada it still offered seating for four. | ||
1970 | 1970s | Urraco prototype | https://www.lambocars.com/urraco-prototype/ | Automobili Lamborghini SpA asked Bertone to design the new 'small' Lamborghini, the V-8 powered Urraco. The Bertone design studio came up with two rather similar looking running prototypes, the first used a strange headlight configuration while the second was more conventional with pop-up headlights and a small integrated rear spoiler and a big air extractor in the front hood. But Ferruccio decided to have a third prototype designed, also at Bertone but now by Marcello Gandini | ||
1970 | 1970s | Miura Jota | https://www.lambocars.com/miura-jota/ | From a distance the Jota still looked like a Miura, but up close a lot was different, just about the entire car was developed from the ground up. For example, it is made from Avional, a very light, composite alloy usually only found in the aircraft industry. The Jota is what happens when Bob Wallace decides to turn the Miura into a race car. | ||
1971 | 1970s | Miura P400 SV | https://www.lambocars.com/miura-p400-sv/ | The SV was the final and most developed version of the Miura. The main focus was a new rear suspension that made the car wider. Longer wishbones were fitted and larger cast magnesium wheels added. | ||
1971 | 1970s | Countach LP5000 | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-lp5000/ | On the 1971 Geneva Auto Show Lamborghini introduced the mind-blowing Countach, the full denomination was LP 500 Countach, where the LP stood for Longitudinale Posteriore 5000 cc, and the 5-Liter engine was put longitudinally in the back. | ||
1972 | 1970s | Jarama SVR Special | https://www.lambocars.com/jarama-svr-special/ | A very heavily modified Jarama GTS has been spotted on the Tonino Lamborghini Museum in Italy, this car was originally a 400 GTS chassis #10364 with engine #40891, but the car had extensive modifications done on the outside, rumor has it Bob Wallace started the work on this car for track use, while the orange Jarama Bob was intended for rallying. | ||
1972 | 1970s | Jarama Bob | https://www.lambocars.com/jarama-bob/ | In 1972, Bob Wallace modified a Jarama into a pure hot rod, he used the chassis number 10350 (the last Jarama chassis) with engine #40537 originally mounted, however, some sources state the engine was taken from an Islero instead. | ||
1972 | 1970s | Urraco P250 | https://www.lambocars.com/urraco-p250/ | The mid-mounted V8 engine was Lamborghini’s first, generating 217 bhp at 7,500rpm. It was a nice touring car with great road manners thanks to independent McPherson suspension. Only 520 P250 Urracos were made. | ||
1973 | 1970s | Espada GTE (Series III) | https://www.lambocars.com/espada-gte-series-iii/ | With the second redesign the dashboard changed again. The wheels were updated and were fitted with new rubber. Exterior changes included the square mesh grille and tail lights from an Alfa. | ||
1973 | 1970s | Jarama GTS 400 | https://www.lambocars.com/jarama-gts-400/ | The GTS 400 (known as Jarama S) had a few body modifications including a hood scoop, exhaust vents and new wheels. New exhaust and revised heads as well as other engine mods raised power to 365 hp. | ||
1973 | 1970s | Countach LP400 | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-lp400/ | The first Countach generation was named LP 400. Its 4 liter V12 engine was mounted lengthwise and produced 375 hp and 266 ft/lbs of torque. It truly created the new age of the supercar. 150 units were made. | ||
1974 | 1970s | Bravo by Bertone | https://www.lambocars.com/lamborghini-bravo-by-bertone/ | Bertone presented study 114, the new Lamborghini Bravo, on the 1974 Turin Auto show, it was designated to be the successor of the P300 Urraco, and used the same mechanicals. The Bravo was a very low-slung car, with several stylistic references to the Countach, the new styled wheels on the Bravo, among other things would later end up on the Countach. The Bravo name was another reference to the raging bull emblem, a return after the LP400 Countach, whose name was in no way connected to a bull. | ||
1975 | 1970s | Urraco Rallye | https://www.lambocars.com/urraco-rallye/ | Bob Wallace built the radical Jota in his spare time, but in 1973 he converted an Urraco into a real 'hot rod'. He used the number '3' of the early 'pre-series' P250's from 1971 as a base. It was powered by a special 3.0-Liter engine using a 4-valve/cylinder configuration with dry-sump lubrication, coupled to a six-speed gearbox. Good for 310 Bhp. | ||
1975 | 1970s | Urraco P200 | https://www.lambocars.com/urraco-p200/ | The P200 Urraco became available for the Italian market in response to 17% additional taxes levied against cars with engines larger than 2 liters. The bore on the P250 engine was reduced from 86 mm to 77.4 mm. | ||
1975 | 1970s | Urraco P300 | https://www.lambocars.com/urraco-p300/ | The P300 was much improved over the P250. Engine displacement had increased to 3 liters and the top was changed. Transmission, suspension and bodywork received changes too. Power output increased to 247 bhp. | ||
1976 | 1970s | Cheetah | https://www.lambocars.com/cheetah/ | The first off-road car that was related to Lamborghini without being a tractor, was the 1977 Cheetah, starting out as an attempt to get a contract from the US military to buy it in large numbers, the Cheetah was designed by Rodney Pharis. Lamborghini had the Cheetah shown to the public in 1977. | ||
1976 | 1970s | Silhouette P300 | https://www.lambocars.com/silhouette-p300/ | Released at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show, the Silhouette was a targa-style version of the Urraco P300. It was Lamborghini’s first open model which used a removable roof that could be stored behind the rear seats. Only 52 ever made. | ||
1976 | 1970s | Countach LP400 Speciale | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-lp400-speciale/ | In 1976 Lamborghini produced three further examples. One was built for Ermanno Spazzapan (chassis 1120188) and another for Albert Silvera (1120222). Walter Wolf also took delivery of a second Countach Speciale (1120202) which received the special five-litre engine originally fitted to his red car. Each of these vehicles was highly customised. | ||
1978 | 1970s | Frua Faena | https://www.lambocars.com/frua-faena/ | The Italian coach builder Pietro Frua created the only four-door Lamborghini in existence in 1978, the Frua Faena was created on a reinforced 1974 Espada Series II chassis (nr. 18224). It took Pietro Frua 8 months to create his four door Lamborghini, he stretched the standard Espada chassis 178 mm (7 in) to accommodate the rear seats and ended up with a car totalling 4586 mm (18 ft) in length which added 200 Kg (440 pounds) to the total weight, the wheelbase went to 2830 mm, with a width of 1900 mm and a total height of only 1250 mm, the Faena really looked impressive. | ||
1978 | 1970s | Countach LP400 S | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-lp400-s/ | After a few years Lamborghini updated the Countach both inside and out. The more aggressive look (new spoilers) was a result of adding the widest tires available. The suspension was replaced and it lost its Periscopa roof. | ||
1980 | 1980s | Athon by Bertone | https://www.lambocars.com/lamborghini-athon-by-bertone/ | Bertone created the most spectacular Lamborghini's ever, the Miura, the Espada and the Countach, but the Bertone designers also created a few 'special' Lamborghini's, the Bravo was one of them and the Athon which was presented on the 1980 Turin Motor Show, was the next. It was designed by Marc Deschamps, who became Marcello Gandini's successor, and was based on the Lamborghini Silhouette basics. The Athon was however fully functional and the press even had a chance to drive it. | ||
1981 | 1980s | LM001 | https://www.lambocars.com/lm001/ | Lamborghini Militaria number 1 as it is otherwise known. After the Cheetah was sent back to the United States in late 1977 the option of adding an off-road model. If you compare the Cheetah with the LM001 you can hardly call the latter an evolution of the Cheetah, instead it was more a revolution. | ||
1981 | 1980s | Jalpa Prototype | https://www.lambocars.com/jalpa-prototype/ | When the Jalpa prototype was presented on the 1981 Geneva Show it was finished in a brilliant metallic bronze, all plastic body parts like bumpers, roof and air intakes were painted in a mustard-color while a beige-and-brown striped leather interior was used … something that was only seen once after production started inside a custom made white Jalpa, the striped interior never became a factory option. Known as the Lamborghini Jalpa P350, it was a natural evolution of the Silhouette and the final attempt at creating an entry level Lamborghini with a V8 engine. Power increased and handling was markedly better than the Silhouette while the body was again a new design crafted by Bertone. Jalpa looked less spectacular than the Silhouette but it was actually very in style. | ||
1981 | 1980s | Jalpa P350 | https://www.lambocars.com/jalpa-p350/ | The Jalpa was fitted with a 3.5 L double overhead camshaft version of the V8 engine used in the Silhouette on which it was based. The version used in the Jalpa produced 255 hp and 225 lb/ft of torque. | ||
1982 | 1980s | ItalDesign Marco Polo | https://www.lambocars.com/italdesign-marco-polo/ | The Marco Polo was designed by Giugiaro and Ital Design, it was meant to be an evolution of the Lamborghini Espada, but it never even reached the stage of being built in metal. The car shown here is in fact a 1:1 wooden model. The Marco Polo was presented on December 3, 1982 and appeared on the 1982 Bologna Motor Show. The design featured seating for four persons, with only two gullwing type doors, these doors however could be opened from both the front and rear seats, allowing easy exit for the passengers. | ||
1982 | 1980s | LMA002 | https://www.lambocars.com/lma002/ | The LMA-002 (with the 'A' for Antiore) was the logical follow up of the LM-001, because on the latter one, the engine was in the back, its road holding was terrible, but on the LMA-002 the engine was moved to the front. This time it was a Lamborghini V-12, very much like the unit used in the Countach LP 500S. | ||
1982 | 1980s | Countach LP500 S | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-lp500-s/ | At the 1982 Geneva Motor Show, the Countach finally got the 5-liter engine it was originally design for. This was the first Countach update in four years. Power was up 50 hp compared to the 4 liter engine. | ||
1984 | 1980s | Countach Restyling prototype | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-restyling-prototype/ | Lamborghini Countach L150 Prototipo, 1987. An experimental Countach development that would have updated the car’s technology and styling at a time when Lamborghini were short of funds. It remained a one-off. | ||
1986 | 1980s | LM004 7000 | https://www.lambocars.com/lm004-7000/ | The idea of a multi-purpose Lamborghini was taken one step further with the enormous LM-004. The car was built around the same chassis as the LMA-002, but went much further, the engine wasn't the 'normal' 4754 cc unit, but an all new 7.0-Litre one.. | ||
1986 | 1980s | LM002 | https://www.lambocars.com/lm002/ | The first off-road Lamborghini was not the Urus, it was the LM002. The four-valve DOHC V12 engine had 450 hp with 6 Weber carburetors, five-speed manual transmission, independent suspension. Imagine a massive off-road vehicle with a Countach V12 engine up front ... meet the Lamborghini LM002. | ||
1986 | 1980s | Countach LP500 Quattrovalvole | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-lp500-quattrovalvole/ | Lamborghini’s third major Countach revision came in 1985 at the Geneva Show. The model was named after its new cylinder head which featured four valves per cylinder (it was known either as the Quattrovalvole or QV). | ||
1987 | 1980s | Jalpa Spyder | https://www.lambocars.com/jalpa-spyder/ | Automobili Lamborghini started working on a Jalpa with a completely retractable roof in 1987, called the Jalpa Spyder, a prototype was created using a silver metallic over blue leather Jalpa that was still owned by factory at that time, a rear treatment similar to the one found on the Bertone Athon was used on this special Jalpa, but the finished car didn’t look nearly as impressive as the Athon did. | ||
1987 | 1980s | Countach Evoluzione | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-evoluzione/ | The Evoluzione was designed and built in 1987 under the direction of Horacio Pagani, by the newly-formed 'Composites Department', they decided to change the steel space-frame of the original Countach to a chassis/body construction in composite materials. The entire cockpit and roof panels, central transmission tunnel, door sills and the front and rear were made in one piece of composite. | ||
1988 | 1980s | Chrysler/Lamborghini Portofino | https://www.lambocars.com/chrysler-lamborghini-portofino/ | Back in 1986, Kevin Verduyn developed the Navajo, a concept car for Chrysler, but the project never got beyond the clay model. By refining some details, the Navajo was transformed into the Portofino, a show car to symbolize the Chrysler takeover of Lamborghini, the badges on the car show the raging bull inside the famous Chrysler logo. The Portofino was built on a Jalpa chassis, which had to be lengthened by 66 cm to allow the space for four seats. The Jalpa engine and transmission were also used, but the main attraction were the four horizontally hinged doors | ||
1988 | 1980s | The Genesis by Bertone | https://www.lambocars.com/the-genesis-by-bertone/ | On April 21, 1988 at the Turin Motor Show, the Genesis was first shown to the public, after some 30,000 man hours had been invested in it by Bertone. Marc Deschamps, chief designer of Centro Stile Bertone, mostly designed the Genesis and it looked like a sporty mini-van. However, the overall impression was one of speed and performance. Power was delivered by the well-known Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalvole engine, still pumping out 455 bhp at 7000 rpm. | ||
1989 | 1980s | Countach 25th Anniversary | https://www.lambocars.com/countach-25th-anniversary/ | The 25th Anniversary was the last and most aggressive Countach. Taking the 5000S further it had redesigned aero ducts and a redesigned front and rear kevlar hoods. The chassis was upgraded extensively too. | ||
1989 | 1980s | P132, early prototypes | https://www.lambocars.com/p132-early-prototypes/ | The Gandini design was very futuristic and aggressive looking, like the Countach was back in the Seventies, now the engine cover was made in glass, but in the early testing phase this arrangement didn’t cool the engine enough, so the idea was abandoned. | ||
1990 | 1990s | P140 | https://www.lambocars.com/lamborghini-p140/ | The internal number P140 was used for the successor of the Jalpa, whose production had been halted in 1988. The P140, probably named 'Cala', was designed with one goal in mind, superior styling, the engine and chassis were made inferior to the exterior styling of this car. At that time, the German and Japanese cars were in the same price-range as a small Ferrari or the new 'little' Lamborghini, that was the reason why Lamborghini had to rely so much on its styling. Because both the German BMW's and Mercedes, and the Japanese cars were very fast and reliable. | ||
1990 | 1990s | Diablo | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo/ | Owners started taking delivery of the Diablo in June 1990, five years after the start of the project. The Diablo sold well and was loved by the press. Only faults were heavy steering and heavy operation clutch. | ||
1992 | 1990s | Diablo Roadster prototype | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo-roadster-prototype/ | On the 1992 Geneva Auto Show, Lamborghini presented a prototype of an open-top version of their flagship, the Diablo Roadster, naturally the roof was removed and the chassis was altered to cope with this, but there were also some other changes which would make their way to the Diablo and Diablo VT production model. | ||
1993 | 1990s | Diablo VT | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo-vt/ | The biggest difference with the Diablo VT and earlier versions was the addition of all wheel drive for the first time. It had a viscous center diff that could transfer up to 25% of the torque to the front wheels to improve traction. | ||
1994 | 1990s | Diablo SE30 | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo-se30/ | To celebrate Lamborghini’s 30th year as a road car maker, a special edition Diablo called the SE30 was offered in 1993. It was the fastest car Lamborghini had made: 207 mph flat out and 0-60 in 4 seconds. | ||
1995 | 1990s | ItalDesign Cala | https://www.lambocars.com/italdesign-cala/ | On the 1995 Geneva Auto Show, the new Lamborghini Cala was shown, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for ItalDesign and powered by a V-10 engine with a power rating over 400 bhp, mounted in a rear central position, in an all-aluminum chassis. At this time, Automobili Lamborghini SpA officially announced the Cala as the prototype for the Jalpa successor, including the proposed Targa roof configuration. | ||
1995 | 1990s | Diablo SE Jota edition | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo-se-jota-edition/ | Automobili Lamborghini SpA had the Jota kit developed by Lamborghini Engineering SpA which we could call the 'Squadra Corse' department back in those days, in fact from the 28 kits made for 1995 only 12 were mounted right there at the facilit. The Diablo was taken from the production line as a regular SE30 and transformed into a Jota specs model in the Lamborghini Engineering SpA building ... the same place that built the Lamborghini V12 Formula One engines in the early Nineties. | ||
1995 | 1990s | Diablo VT Roadster | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo-vt-roadster/ | The Diablo VT Roadster was introduced in 1995 and had a targa top. Besides the roof, the roadster’s body was altered from the fixed-top VT model in a number of ways. The front bumper was revised. | ||
1995 | 1990s | Diablo SV | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo-sv/ | The Sport Veloce (SV) version of the Diablo was a 2WD version that also befitted from the 30 Edition Jota upgrades and a light drivetrain. With a potent spec, it was used to transform the Diablo into the SVR race model. | ||
1996 | 1990s | Diablo VT-R | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo-vt-r/ | A Lamborghini Diablo VT-R started life as a 'normal' Diablo VT, but it was build on special demand only, production of this 'factory custom' was halted after only 3 cars were built, two LHD and one RHD car. The original intention was to have a production of only five cars, but after the third one was ordered, Audi AG took over. | ||
1996 | 1990s | Diablo SV-R | https://www.lambocars.com/diablo-sv-r/ | The Diablo SV-R was the first Lamborghini that was officially entered into racing by the factory, although the actual drivers weren’t factory pilots, it was still the closest thing to a race car Automobili Lamborghini SpA ever built, beside the Formula one engines they built. | ||
1997 | 1990s | Early Canto prototypes | https://www.lambocars.com/early-canto-prototypes/ | This car had been spotted in high-speed tests on the Nardo circuit in Italy some time ago, while apparently they had a small problem with cooling down the big 6 Liter V-12 engine (the air scoops were terrifyingly big at the rear), the speed was phenomenal. A rumored top speed of about 350 Km/h had been mentioned.
