7th September 2024, marked an important milestone for Automobili Lamborghini and the metropolitan area of Bologna in promoting gender equality. Since 2019, Lamborghini has been a founding member of Rete CapoD (Comunità di aziende per le Pari Opportunità), a network of companies dedicated to advancing equal opportunities. Along with seven other major companies in the Bologna area, including Aeroporto di Bologna, CAAB, CRIF, Emil Banca, IMA, Philip Morris, and TPER, Lamborghini has worked to foster a culture of inclusion and diversity through various initiatives.

In a ceremony attended by Bologna Mayor Matteo Lepore, Rete CapoD President Lucia Ghirardini and representatives from the member companies signed a new protocol with the Metropolitan City of Bologna government. This agreement strengthens the public-private partnership to spread best practices, support gender equality, and drive positive social change in the region.

Lamborghini’s involvement in Rete CapoD builds on the company’s ongoing efforts to create a more equitable and inclusive workplace. In 2022, Lamborghini became the first automaker to receive the IDEM certification for its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. The company has excelled in areas like minimizing the gender pay gap and implementing progressive parental leave policies.

Lamborghini has introduced awareness campaigns focused on inclusive language and unconscious bias, aiming to transform mindsets and behaviors. The company’s efforts are designed to challenge stereotypes and foster more thoughtful communication.

The company’s commitment extends to supporting working parents. Lamborghini offers economic supplements for parental leave, paid time off for family medical needs, and special protections for single parents and those with children with disabilities. Initiatives like “Mum & Dad Coaching” help new parents navigate the challenges of balancing work and family life.

Collaborating for Change

By joining forces with other major employers through Rete CapoD, Lamborghini aims to have an even greater impact. The network enables the sharing of knowledge, experiences, and successful diversity practices across industries.

The new protocol with the Metropolitan City of Bologna will facilitate access to funding, incentives, and other support for gender equality projects. It also provides a platform for companies to engage with local institutions and the broader community on these critical issues. Lamborghini’s commitment extends beyond its walls to the wider Bologna community. The company has developed and supported numerous local projects to promote inclusion and equal opportunities.

The renewed commitment from Lamborghini and Rete CapoD sets an inspiring example for other organizations and regions. By taking concrete actions to remove barriers and level the playing field, these companies are driving meaningful progress toward a more equitable society.

Bologna itself is leading the charge, with Mayor Matteo Lepore championing a comprehensive 2021-2026 gender equality strategy. The city is integrating gender perspectives into urban planning, from public buildings to parks to transportation, to create a more inclusive environment for all residents. With determination and ongoing collaboration, Lamborghini, Rete CapoD, and their partners in Bologna are paving the way to a brighter, more inclusive future. As Tossini put it, this is “a way to get to know each other and understand how to be an active part of change.”

The automotive industry as a whole still has significant progress to make on gender equality. Women remain underrepresented, especially in leadership roles and technical positions like manufacturing and repair. But through efforts like those in Bologna, the sector can expand opportunities, strengthen its talent pipeline, and reap the well-documented benefits of diversity.

By working together to close the gender gap, automakers, dealers, suppliers, and communities can build a more innovative, resilient, and equitable industry – one that reflects and uplifts the diverse customers it serves. Lamborghini and its Rete CapoD partners are helping to drive that transformation.
