On the 1999 Concorso Italiano in the United States, a rather special Diablo SV was shown, this car looked like a normal SV, although finished in a rather flashy light blue metallic, but the engine on this car was a different story.
Platinum Motors, a US based authorised Automobili Lamborghini SpA dealer, also known for their Diablo VTTT edition some years ago, now had a Diablo SV Supercharged available, again the engine was accompanied by two separate superchargers, one for each bank of six cylinders.
It is known that two smaller chargers give a much faster response to the throttle than one bigger one, therefore the Bugatti EB110 in it’s time even used four turbo’s. As you can see on both images of the engine, the turbines are polished to a very high gloss and some parts were given the same color of the exterior, giving a very nice, clean impression of the engine bay.
This custom Diablo was based on a pre-1999 SV, so the engine had 510 Bhp at the start, but after completion of these modifications about 680 Bhp was available at the rear wheels without even stressing the engine. It is possible to get an even greater power output, but then the engine would lose it’s everyday usability, you would end up with a highly tuned race engine with absolutely no practicality in normal driving conditions.
