Only a few months ago we were under the impression Automobili Lamborghini SpA would unveil the latest and bravest at the 2016 Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris … but they decided not to attend this important show in Europe, and now the same thing is happening at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show … there will be no stand at the show.
But members of the press have recently received an invitation for a private unveil in Los Angeles on the eve of the Auto Show, Automobili Lamborghini SpA will present the “world premiere of the newest expression to emerge from Sant’Agata Bolognese” according to the people at CarBUZZ, they also state the invite mentions “an international debut of pure, powerful performance” … now that sounds really interesting.
Is Lamborghini preparing to unveil the Huracan Superleggera or Performante edition of the successful V10 model? Since the company from Sant’Agata recently trademarked the ‘Huracan Performante’ nomination and there is no trace of any ‘Huracan Superleggera’ trademark we might be getting the Performante name for the closed Huracan lightweight model instead of the Gallardo Performante which was a spyder version of the Gallardo Superleggera.
The rumor about a more powerful Lamborghini Huracan has been going around for several months now, ever since a test mule has been spied on the famous Nurburgring in Germany in July, showing a very aggressive style with a new front bumper design and a very open rear diffuser combined with a rear wing inspired by the Aventador Superveloce.
No official information has been published yet, but online discussions mention a power increase to 640 hp making this an Huracan 640-4 as the four-wheel drive will most likely be maintained, while an innovative active aerodynamic system could be fitted with flaps on the undertray and other sections of the Huracan resulting in a massive increase in downforce at speed. The new aero parts at the front and rear could be finished in clear carbon fiber just like the rear wing, which plays an important part in the active aerodynamic setup.
The latest spy shots of the Lamborghini Huracan Performante test mule unveil an air vent on top of the front fenders, as seen on the Huracan Super Trofeo race car, while another outlet looks to be installed behind the front wheel, a large air intake behind the door in front of the rear wheel seems to be carved into the bodywork too … it seems the Huracan Performante will be a street legal version of the Super Trofeo racer.
Rumor has it the Huracan Performante will only be about 40kg lighter compared to the regular V10, but with a different suspension and the active aero it will be the fastest Bull ever around the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany … first the Aventador Superveloce put down a record time on the ring, and if we can believe what has been told online the new Huracan Performante will be even quicker.
But most sources insist the Lamborghini Huracan Performante would be unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show in March next year, if that is the case what model could be shown in LA in two weeks? The 2018 Lamborghini Urus would be way too soon to be introduced already, but there is another model that is ready to be put in production …
What if Lamborghini shows the Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2 Spyder in Los Angeles … we’ve seen the model already doing test runs around the factory, so it is most likely ready to be sold anyway … perhaps we won’t be seeing the high power, lightweight V10 Performante until March 2017 … only time will tell.
