Lamborghini’s immensely popular Urus Super SUV will undergo a complete electric transformation, as confirmed by CEO Stephan Winkelmann. He revealed that a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) version of the Lamborghini Urus is slated to be introduced before the end of the decade. Quoting Winkelman “in 2029 there will be the new Urus”.
In 2017, amidst the booming SUV market, the Italian automaker popularly known all over the World for its high-performance 2-seater Supercars unleashed its revolutionary masterpiece, the Lamborghini Urus. With an audacious claim of being the world’s inaugural “Super Sport Utility Vehicle,” this remarkable creation flawlessly combines the heart-pounding spirit of a sports car with the utmost functionality and adaptability of an SUV. And since its launch, the Urus has been a game-changer for Lamborghini, driving the automaker to unprecedented success with record-breaking sales in recent years. However, Lamborghini is now closely observing the industry’s shift towards electric vehicles, recognizing the upcoming transition.
URUS Going PHEV in 2024 then full electric in 29′
According to Winkelmann, the CEO of Lamborghini, 2022 would mark the final year for the introduction new Lamborghini model exclusively powered by gasoline.
Beginning this year, Lamborghini is already shifting its focus towards hybrid and PHEV technologies as it makes strides towards its inauguration of a fully electric vehicle. However, prior to introducing the fully electric Urus, Lamborghini will most likely unveil their first-ever fully electric model, a two-door “2+2” car, slated for release around 2028, followed by the anticipated next-generation electric Urus model, expected to arrive around 2029.
While specific details about the electric powertrain or design of the upcoming 2029 Urus Electric remain undisclosed at this very early stage, the encouraging news that the executives at Sant’Agata Bolognese are actively exploring the possibility of an electric Urus and it means a lot.
The upcoming Urus EV will enter the competitive market of high-performance, long-range SUVs, challenging contenders like Tesla Model X, Audi Q8 Etron, Mercedes EQS, Rivian and more.
