Poised to tackle iconic races, the SC63 Hybrid Racer Prototype is set to compete in the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Unmistakable Lamborghini DNA

At a casual glance, the SC63 may not immediately strike as a ‘Lamborghini.’ It complies with LMDh rules, but a deeper look reveals the undeniable Lamborghini DNA. Lamborghini’s Centro Stile design group masterfully weaved Lambo-like lighting elements into the sharply lined body panels, part of their recent design trend. The car, painted in striking Verde Mantis and donning a racing stripe honoring the Italian flag, guarantees an unmissable presence on the track.

Lamborghini collaborated with Liger to craft the monocoque chassis but left its distinctive mark on the design, infusing Countach-inspired NACA ducts and Revuelto wheel arches, among other components.

New Hybrid powered twin turbo V8

The SC63 is not only a feast for the eyes; it houses an engineering masterpiece under its hood. Lamborghini developed an entirely new twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine specifically for this racer. This engine boasts a ‘cold V’ configuration, with turbos mounted externally for optimal cooling, easy maintenance, and superior weight distribution.

Partnered with a class-required hybrid system, the total power output hits the regulated cap of 671 horsepower. The hybrid setup consists of a standard motor generator and battery controlled by a Bosch electronic control unit. While the LMDh rules prescribe a standard gearbox, Lamborghini customized the gear ratios to maximize performance.

Official Debut in 2024

Though they haven’t revved up on the racetrack yet, two SC63 race cars are gearing up for the coming season. One will battle it out in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship, while the other will participate in the North American Endurance Championship’s IMSA events. The Iron Lynx team, known for their Lamborghini expertise, will field both cars.

Factory drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli and Formula 1 veterans Daniil Kvyat and Romain Grosjean will be at the wheel. Testing continues until the 2024 racing season when the SC63 will officially burst onto the scene.

The much-anticipated unveiling of its LMDh racing prototype will take center stage at the event. This twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid-assisted marvel demonstrates Lamborghini’s dedication to innovation. The automaker’s Squadra Corse competition division fully developed its first racing engine for this vehicle.

Although the exact output details remain under wraps, the LMDh class cars must comply with strict specific requirements. They must be at most 671 horsepower, weigh over 2,271 pounds (excluding the driver and fuel), or surpass a top speed of 211.3 mph. This ensures a balanced and thrilling race every time.

Built for Endurance Races

The production model is ready for the most grueling endurance races. With the support of a partnership with well-known chassis supplier Liger, the LMDh prototype incorporates a Bosch motor generator and a battery pack from Williams Advanced Engineering. This offers superior performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.

Lamborghini’s Grand Entry into Prestigious Global Endurance Races

The racing prototype marks Lamborghini’s entry into the globally prestigious endurance races. The vehicle will debut in the Hypercar Class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship and will also participate in the GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Endurance Cup. This endeavor positions Lamborghini prominently in iconic racing events such as the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Romain Grosjean: The Man Behind the Wheel

Former Formula 1 driver and current IndyCar racer Romain Grosjean will handle the vehicle. He brings vast experience and resilience to the team following his survival of a horrifying crash in Bahrain in March 2021. Grosjean made his Lamborghini debut earlier this year, finishing 24th at the 24 Hours of Daytona in a Huracan GT3 EVO2 for the Iron Lynx racing team.

Before the grand unveiling, Lamborghini will display a prototype at the Lamborghini Lounge. The company’s Chairman and CEO, Stephen Winkelman, and the technical experts behind the project will provide a detailed overview of this innovative machine at the event.

Could the same V8 Hybrid power Lamborghini’s Upcoming PHEV products?

Lamborghini hinted that a twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid engine would power their prototype, though we’re not exactly sure yet. Does this hint suggest that Lamborghini might be testing their newly developed V8 hybrid powertrain under the skin of their new prototype? Lamborghini plans to use endurance races to further test and rectify the engine’s shortcomings before incorporating this newly developed powertrain into their upcoming PHEV product lineup. This includes the successor to the Huracan and the Urus PHEV. The decision is yours to make.

The Revuelto, Sterrato, and Urus Performante will make special appearances

However, the LMDh prototype isn’t Lamborghini’s only star at the Goodwood show. They will also introduce the all-new Revuelto, the brand’s first V12 super sports plug-in hybrid and the successor to the Aventador. The off-road, V10-powered Huracan Sterrato with a unique Rally mode will also participate in the hill climb at Goodwood. The robust and stylish Urus Performante will join them as well.

From July 13 to 16, festival-goers can witness the future of Lamborghini as the Revuelto, Sterrato, Huracan Tecnica, and Huracan STO will be on exhibition outside the Lamborghini Lounge.

Inside the Lamborghini VIP hospitality, you could admire an absolutely stunning Huracán STO spec, Bianco with Blu livery, while on the wall Lamborghini showcased a small part of their color pallet available to customers, in the other corner some samples of leather, while you can sit down at a table and discuss you new Lamborghini spec with a representative, or just take a break in the salon while sipping some Prosecco from the bar, made in Italy naturally, and while these static displays look amazing, the real action at the Goodwood Festival of Speed happens in the supercar paddock and during the famous hill climb.

Lamborghini came with an impressive series of cars to use during this hill climb, the swansong of the Lamborghini V12 engine was present, the impressive 780 hp Aventador Ultimae, but they also had both the Huracán EVO and STO taking a stint during the Goodwood FOS in a celebration of the naturally-aspirated engines before we’ll be seeing the first hybrid models from Sant’Agata next year, but there were also some truly track-specials on display too, a line-up of Lamborghini Squadra Corse cars including two Essenza SCV12 and two Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 were shown outside the exclusive Drivers’ Club.

Cars like the Lotus Emira, the Maserati MC20, and the Aston Martin Valkyrie are taking on the famous hill climb circuit at Goodwood during the Supercar Run, and I was hoping we would be seeing the Aventador Ultimae in action too, but it seems both the grey Coupe and the blue Roadster will be on static display only, which is too bad as this ‘final’ Lamborghini Aventador comes with an impressive 780 hp from the famous NA V12 engine.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae will be the last V12 flagship from Sant’Agata to use the legendary V12 engine as-is, right up to this day Automobili Lamborghini SpA never produced a turbocharged V12 model, nor a V1³2 Hybrid as a production model, the Sián is a limited edition model, the successor to the Aventador will be Lamborghini’s first, official V12 hybrid model when it arrives in late 2022 or early 2023, by 2024 we will also see the Huracán replacement … as a hybrid too.

Talking about the Huracán, they came in numbers to Goodwood, Automobili Lamborghini SpA had several different versions of their V10 success story at Goodwood, their main stand not only showcased the grey finished Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae, but also the stunning Blu Laufey Huracán STO, the street-legal version of their famous Squadra Corse race car, the V10 ‘Super Trofeo Omologata’ on the other hand wasn’t just a static show stopper, a stunning satin blue finished Huracán STO took the honor of the first dynamic sighting of this model in the UK during the famed hill climb.

As if that wasn’t already enough to draw crowds of Lamborghini owners and enthusiasts to Goodwood, Lamborghini Squadra Corse came with not one, but two of their very special cars to the UK, the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO 2 that was only recently unveiled as the new evolution of the race car for the one-make racing championship we all know as the Super Trofeo Series, this track-only V10 is available for €250,000 before taxes and you’ll be able to enter her into the first race of the 2022 season.

And we haven’t even mentioned probably the most impressive Lamborghini at Goodwood Festival of Speed, another track-only special model, limited to only 40 units and not street-legal in any way … the Le Mans racer inspired, SCV12 Essenza, loosely based on the Aventador carbon fiber monocoque chassis, the SCV12 is a testament to what Lamborghini Squadra Corse is capable of creating when they get a black piece of paper and no real regulation to adhere to.

Emanuele Pirro took this first prototype SCV12 ‘up the hill’ in the supercar class, leading the other models Lamborghini brought for this high-speed demonstration during the four days of Goodwood FoS, models like the orange Aventador SVJ Roadster, a green Huracán EVO, the aforementioned satin blue Huracán STO and the satin green Huracán Super Trofeo EVO 2, and naturally the Super SUV from Sant’Agata couldn’t be absent either.

Lamborghini super sports cars making the hill climb include the Centenario Roadster: one of a limited edition of 20 produced together with 20 coupés. With a start price of two million euros, the Centenario was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s birthday, and all sold prior to launch.

The Centenario is joined in the supercar paddock by the Huracán Performante and Spyder, as well as the Aventador S Coupé and Roadster.

“Goodwood Festival of Speed marks the arrival of the Lamborghini Urus Super SUV in the UK, with the first cars about to be delivered to customers,” said Andrea Baldi, CEO Lamborghini EMEA. “The line-up of the Urus Super SUV as well as our V12 and V10 super sports cars means that fans of Lamborghini are promised a resounding display of iconic design and performance as each car runs up the Goodwood hill.”

Automobili Lamborghini announced record worldwide deliveries to customers last year of 3,815 cars across its Aventador and Huracán ranges. More than 350 cars were delivered in the UK during 2017, which was the third largest market for Lamborghini.

The Urus, first unveiled in December 2017 and officially launched earlier this year, features a 4.0 litre V8 twin-turbo engine delivering 650 hp. The Urus accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and, with a top speed of 190 mph, is the fastest SUV available. Lamborghini’s third model line, it will more than double sales worldwide as well as in the UK. The Lamborghini Urus retails in the UK from £165,000 on the road.

Another public debut for the UK will be the impressive Lamborghini Huracan Performante, this V10 powered supercar has shattered the lap record at the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife (also called the Green Hell) with a staggering 6:52.01, Lamborghini’ test driver Marco Mapelli set this record in Germany … and he will also impress us driving this car at Goodwood now.

The flagship V12 model, the Aventador S, is being delivered to customers already, but that won’t mean it can’t draw attention at Goodwood FOS too, so Lamborghini is bringing one of these 740hp exotics to the United Kingdom too.

But Lamborghini is bringing along something really exclusive this year in Goodwood … a one of a kind Aventador S created in collaboration between Ad Personam and the Centro Stile, finished in a special matt grey shade called ‘Grigio Acheus’ the lines on this new V12 are accentuated by matt orange paint, add the clear carbon fiber parts, black Dianthus wheels over orange calipers and you end up with a truly unique car.

This is even further emphasized by an Ad Personam plaque showing ‘Opera Unica’ …

The Rosso Arancio Miura finished Aventador took center stage at the Lamborghini stand in Goodwood, with her gold livery on the side sills, bottom of the front bumper and the Dione wheels this Aventador looks really nice, note that the Aventador Miura Homage will be built only 50 times, and most of them are already sold, either in this red shade, in black, in white or in green with gold livery … or in yellow and blu with a silver livery … no other shades are available.

At the 2016 Cartier Style et Luxe Concours d’Elegance at Goodwood the Lamborghini Miura SV chassis number 4846 received the ‘overall winner’ award, Laurent Feniou, managing director of Cartier UK offered this amazing prize to Enrico Maffeo, head of Lamborghini PoloStorico … the department that restored this green metallic, 1971 Geneva show car to her former glory.

In fact this very car was the first complete restoration project at Lamborghini PoloStorico, so getting such an important award at the Goodwood Festival of Speed is a serious confirmation of the quality of work executed at the PoloStorico department.

Next to this very special Miura the Cartier Style et Luxe area showed a series of Lamborghini to celebrate Marcello Gandini, the famous designer responsible for Raging Bulls like the Espada, the Jarama … and the Countach and Diablo … all masterpieces like the Miura …

At the Automobili Lamborghini SpA not only the red Aventador Miura Homage was shown, but also the impressive Huracan Super Trofeo race car and the Huracan Avio, another special edition, but this time based on the V10 model … inside the hospitality a pristine white Huracan Spyder could be admired.

On the ‘track’ at Goodwood another Huracan Avio could be seen at speed, but also a matte grey finished Huracan Spyder … which during the Michelin Supercar Run went up the hill with Goodwood’s Lord March behind the wheel and Stefano Domenicali in the passenger seat …
