In 2016, Lamborghini released the Centenario Roadster to celebrate the 100th anniversary of founder Ferruccio Lamborghini, limiting production to 20 units and once again, not offering a roof. By 2020, they came out with the Sian Roadster, with only 19 units made and all sold out before the press release. Like its predecessors, it featured a true topless design without a canvas top. Lamborghini continued the trend of not including roofs in their ultimate V12 Roadsters.

The latest in this series is the Lamborghini SC20, a one-of-a-kind car made by Squadra Corse for a lucky customer. Before the official press release, it was clear from the first image that the SC20 had no roof or windshield, not even a low one like the Aventador J.

Damon Fryer from the YouTube channel DailyDrivenExotics (DDE) took this concept to the next level by creating his own Lamborghini Huracan Evo Aperta with 840 hp. He started with a brand new Lamborghini Huracan Evo RWD Spyder and removed the front windshield completely, turning it into an Aperta. To enhance its performance, he installed a VF Engineering supercharger, increasing the power output from 610 hp to 810 hp. Additional modifications included Vorsteiner front fenders with forged carbon louvers, Vorsteiner side skirts, 20-inch V-FF 109 wheels, and an FI exhaust.

So What makes the Lamborghini Huracan Evo Aperta unique compared to other Lamborghini models?

Latest Update: Why did Daily-driven exotics kill the Lamborghini Evo Aperta?

Damon Fryer, founder of Daily Driven Exotics, shared on Facebook that the owner of the Huracan Evo Aperta wanted to sell the car because he was moving abroad. The offer came at a price Damon and his team couldn’t resist, so they decided to buy the car back. Once they had the car, they faced a dilemma since it wasn’t practical for everyday use. They took it to Fast Track Auto Care, where it was restored to its original state using all the stock parts.

However, they kept some of the custom features, like the Vorsteiner front fenders with forged carbon louvers, Vorsteiner side skirts, and 20-inch V-FF 109 wheels, giving the car its distinctive look. Now, with the windshield and a soft convertible top back in place, the car is more practical.

With these updates, the car is ready to be sold to a new owner.

And while this is a relatively easy excercise in a digital world, in real life it might not be as simple … so will Lamborghini be prepared to unveil such a car in the future? I might have to say no to this one. For one there is that amazing confango up front, on the Huracan STO the entire front section, including the fenders, tilts forward on hinges, this facilitates access to anything underneath that cover, it might even safe some weight, but it could also mean the front section of the chassis has been modified to allow this feature.

Just how compatible with a Spyder version that stunning cofango up front is, I honestly don’t know, but things get even more complicated at the rear with that magnificent air intake on the engine cover that peaks above the roof on the Coupe version, on it’s own that shouldn’t be an issue, as the Veneno Roadster already showed us many years ago, just have the scoop inbetween the two seats and buttress behind the headrests.

Even the quick release system, as the Huracan STO engine cover isn’t hinged, isn’t a problem for a car without a roof … the Veneno Roadster didn’t have hinges on her engine cover either … but here comes the problem … the Veneno Roadster didn’t have any kind of roof either, so would this mean Lamborghini won’t be able to fit a roof under the cover on a possible Huracan STO Spyder either?

A fully electric, power operated Spyder roof might not be possible with the air scoop and lift-off engine cover system … but what about a lighter, manual roof? Something like a less insulated, therefore thinner, manually operated roof … now that might be an option I think.

But, in the end, we might never see a Huracan STO as a Spyder, just because the demand for a pure-bred, race track inspired road car without a roof just isn’t there … or perhaps create a new model, a Huracan STO with removeable roof panels similar to the ones on the Aventador Roadster, or even more hard-core … a Targa style roof?

Today many only know the supercars from Sant’Agata like the Huracán and the Aventador, or the Super SUV called the Urus, but back in the Sixties and Seventies Lamborghini was famous for front-engined GT cars, comfortable and high power … the Miura was a preview of things to come for the next decades.

But let’s take a look at some of the variants on cars made in Sant’Agata, but these specials were never built … but just imagine they would have been ordered by some wealthy customers, one-off bespoke customs that would be put in production … somewhat like the Countach LP400S, which we all know came to fruition because Walter Wolf ordered his Countach to be designed and developed for him.

A 350GTF or Gran Turismo Familiare

Back then Touring created the one-off Flying Spur II based on a Lamborghini 400GT, completely changed the style of the beautiful Lamborghini, but imagine if Ferruccio would have taken the roofline design from the Flying Spur and had Touring recreate that onto the production body of the 350GT model … that would have created a stunning, Italian Shooting Brake for sure.

The Islero GT Spyder

From the predecessor, only two 350 GTS were built, but I think the angular styling of the Lamborghini Islero would have made a great looking GT Spyder version too, with the roof being kept under a hard tonneau cover much like on the 350 GTS, the side profile would be really beautiful indeed.

The Jarama GTF

Back in the Sixties and Seventies, the estate cars became highly demanded in Europe, cars like the Aston Martin Shooting Brake have become highly sought after now, so what if Lamborghini would have gone that way with the Jarama and created an option of a Familiare version. Complete with long roof, tailgate window that opened up to reveal some nice luggage space, and naturally keeping the small ducktail at the edge of the roof … all in all, this Jarama looks really nice.

A Jarama Spyder

If you like open-air driving like I do, you would want to get a Lamborghini with a drop-top, and that would have to be a Jarama when they were in production. This time a canvas roof that folds down underneath a soft tonneau cover, most likely have to sacrifice the rear seats and introduce a luggage cover like on the 350GTS, however in case of the Jarama Spyder with that small ducktail at the edge.

A four-door Lamborghini Espada

I know Bertone had a design for a four-door Espada ready, and there is the Frua Faena, but we’re talking about a Lamborghini in the late Sixties and early Seventies you would need something special when they would build a four-door version … so why not have suicide doors on the Espada, wouldn’t that be special? They had it on the Lincoln in the Sixties, and we all know the Espada as the Italian Rolls Royce, so suicide doors would make sense.

The Lamborghini Espada Convertible

In the Seventies, we would see the large Mercedes SE Convertible and the Rolls Royce Corniche, so I’m sure there would be customers for a Convertible version of the Lamborghini Espada, plush leather interior under a canvas roof while still offering four seats … speed, luxury, and open-top cruising … Italian style.

The Miura Roadster

In a list like this I surely couldn’t leave out the amazing looking Lamborghini Miura Roadster, only one was ever made as a concept, but I believe a production version would have sold too, so I modified the rear section slightly so you can admire the air filters from the side too, but other than that I feel the original Miura Roadster was just about perfect already.

A Jalpa Spyder

I know they made a couple of prototypes for what could have become the Lamborghini Jalpa Spyder, but let’s be honest, the blue one in the family museum isn’t the best looking Spyder … I went with a different design, holding a canvas folding top under a soft, leather tonneau cover, and I think this design would have been a success if they would have offered this back in the late Eighties.

The LM002 Estate

Sure they made a bespoke, one-off LM002 Estate for a wealthy customer, but that one also had a raised roof, which made it look weird and out of proportion, but what if Lamborghini would have just enclosed the rear section of the LM002 with a bodyline that was a continuation of the original design, that would have been a much more balanced profile and could seat 7 people … an SUV in true Lamborghini style.

The next-generation Espada

When they unveiled the Estoque concept in Paris, people were very impressed by it, sadly Lamborghini went with a Super SUV instead of a four-door super sedan, but just imagine if they would have developed the Estoque into the next generation Espada with a side window design inspired by that classic V12 luxury cruiser … I think that would have looked really nice.

The Aventador GT-J

I was at the press conference in Geneva when Lamborghini unveiled the Aventador J, a stunning car with no roof whatsoever, but sadly a one-off that was already sold by the time we got to see it … just imagine if they would have taken that style for a closed coupe version … something like an Aventador GT-J for instance … I think orders would pour in for that one.

The Huracán Barchetta

Usually, the one-off or very limited models from Sant’Agata are based on the V12 flagship of that era but think about this one … a Barchetta version of the V10 Huracán, slightly different body styling coupled with a low windshield and roll-over bars behind the carbon fiber, lightweight seats … no roof available and fixed side windows … that would be so much fun to drive.

The new GT model

There is a rumor about Lamborghini adding a fourth model to the lineup after the success of the Urus, and this might be a return to the GT class with a front-mounted engine … so if we take inspiration from the Urus and translate that into a design for a four-door Super Sedan we might end up with a design like this.

The crazy LM002 6×6

Ok, this one might not have been a good idea for Lamborghini to build … but just think about it, these days everyone is crazy about those massive 6×6 off-road vehicles, be it the factory-built Mercedes or the custom-built US models … so if money is no object, and you just happen to own an LM002 it would be really impressive to lift the suspension and add a third axle at the rear, extend the back … and you end up with a one of a kind LM002 … or would that become an LM006 then?

The Huracán EVO RWD Spyder is specially engineered as an instinctive driver’s car, still producing top  performance  figures  but  focused  on  the  pilot’s  skills  and  the  set-up  of  the  rear-wheel  drivepowertrain, providing unfiltered physical feedback and maximum engagement. Back in January I already made a virtual render of how the EVO version of the RWD Spyder would look, it wasn’t that difficult as we all know how the conversion from coupe to spyder took place on the original Huracán LP610-1, the first RWD or LP580-2 and more recently the Huracán EVO and it seems I was right the EVO RWD Spyder looks exactly as I imagined five months ago.

Highlights of Lamborghini Huracán EVO RWD Spyder

The Huracán EVO RWD Spyder comes with the same modified front and rear section when compared to the all-wheel-drive Huracán EVO, and also a power decrease to 610 hp compared to 640 hp on the EVO. Also note the Huracán EVO RWD Spyder comes standard with ventilated, cross-drilled steel brakes behind 19-inch Kari wheels, carbon-ceramic disk brakes, and 20-inch wheels are optionally available.

The Huracán EVO RWD Spyder still uses a soft top when the competition has turned to panels, but a folding soft top does remind us of the real spyder models from the past, and when closed the experience is very close to the coupe anyway. In a mere 17 seconds, the roof can be lowered or raised, even when driving up to 50 km/h (31 Mph) the top is available in a range of different shades by the way.

Naturally, the large, 8.4 inch HMI touchscreen is still present on the central console inside the Huracán EVO RWD Spyder, the epicenter for the multimedia system today controlling telephone, internet access, Apple Car Play, a way to change settings and naturally a complete navigation system.

In case the long list of regular options available on the Huracán EVO RWD Spyder isn’t enough to satisfy the customer, the Ad Personam team will be more than happy to increase the base price of this car to unseen heights.

Interior & Exterior Design

First deliveries of the Huracán EVO RWD Spyder will take place in the summer of 2020 at an MSRP of €175,838 (Europe), US$ 229,428 (USA) before taxes, which is considerably less than the €202,437 or US$287,400 price listed for the Huracán EVO Spyder (in February 2019) and only slightly higher than the pricing on the Huracán EVO RWD coupe at €159,444 or US$ 208,571.

I already rendered how the RWD Spyder would look back in January of this year when they released the Huracán EVO RWD version … turning the coupe into a Spyder doesn’t take a lot of imagination as we already have the Huracán EVO and EVO Spyder for comparison … so adding a top-down edition of the EVO RWD version isn’t the sensational Raging Bull we’re waiting for.

There has been a lot of talk about the Huracán STO, the Super Trofeo Omologato, a street-legal derivative of the famous Super Trofeo race car, but it might take a few more months before we finally see this top of the line V10 without her camouflage disguise, while we’re also eagerly awaiting the arrival of the V12 track car the Lamborghini Squadra Corse has been developing lately and let’s not forget a Urus Hybrid evolution is also still in the works.

I don’t think the styling of the EVO RWD Spyder will be a surprise, we’ve seen the EVO and the EVO Spyder being unveiled very close to each other, so most likely the EVO RWD Spyder will be available very soon too, with deliveries starting in the Summer of 2020, still with the well-known canvas folding roof.

I don’t think we’ll be seeing a convertible hardtop version of the Huracán anymore, this is probably reserved for the successor to the Huracán when it arrives, or Lamborghini sticks to the canvas roof, this is also a possibility.

After the Huracán EVO RWD and a possible EVO RWD Spyder I’m sure we will still get a more powerful EVO Performante edition before any news about a successor gets published, and let’s not forget the rumor about the Huracán STO, the Super Trofeo Omologato, the street-legal derivative of the Super Trofeo racecar, just like the Gallardo STS back in the days.

Only marginal modifications were made to the original car, the roof was removed naturally, the windows were altered and the trunk was redesigned to store the top. The dashboard and the central console in these GTS were also slightly altered and looked even better than those in the GT-version of the 350.

Touring even designed a hardtop for this car, because it was thought this car would go into reduced production. Touring was going through a very difficult period at that time, so production remained at only two cars, also Ferruccio wanted to create a quiet, all-weather car with top performance, and a convertible just didn’t qualify, the hardtop was seen installed on the #328 black car.

The gold #0325 car came with engine #0304 and was finished in Nocciola Metalizzato Nitro over a Testa di Moro brown interior, she was registered in Milan, Italy before she was shipped to Kaplan New York on March 30. 1966. In 1979 she was offered for sale by Ed Ulrich for $39,000 now finished in white or cream and fitted with the dual 400 GT 2+2 sealed-beam headlights, probably to comply with US regulations.

The #0328 one had engine #0283 and came in Nero Acrilico over a verde interior, she was delivered to Odin in Madrid Spain on March 26. 1966, subsequently she was shown at the 1966 Barcelona Motor Show with Spanish plates. In 1972 the car changed hands again and was repainted in red, the black hardtop was still with the car when in 1982 she was sold to Prince Altani of Saudi Arabia, do note this car was for sale back in 1980 in the Netherlands by a dealer called Rudy Pas. Rumor has it Ubaldo Sgarzi inspected the car in Marbella before the car would be shipped to the factory for a full restoration in the late Eighties when she was returned to the original black.

During 1982, Automobili Lamborghini SpA performed a conversion on a 350 GT, chassis number #0160/engine #1395 was converted into a 350 GTS for a French customer. The owner remained anonymous and the third almost original 350 GTS disappeared, however some sources state the black 350 GTS seen at the factory in the Eighties was, in fact, the #0328 car from Prince Altani during restoration.

There are at least three Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 that have been converted into a convertible, chassis number 0577 and 1267 are now near identical twins, both finished in a light blue metallic shade, nr 0577 comes with a gray interior while the 1267 car has a cream leather upholstery. 0577 comes with the Touring logo in the side, 1267 not while 0577 has a single windshield wiper with 1267 having two wipers.

Originally the 400 GT 2+2 #0577 (engine #0524 and body #18988) was delivered in Grigio Argento and was converted in the USA in the Eighties, the 400 GT 2+2 #1267 on the other hand came from the factory in blue and was also turned into a Spyder in the Eighties in the US, in August 2009 the Lamborghini 400 GTS #1267 was sold for $154,000 at auction while in 2012 she was offered for sale in Germany, in August 2014 the #0577 car sold for $451,000 in Monterey.

A 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 with chassis number #0907 finished in Blu Notte was also converted into a Spyder in the Seventies by a body shop in France, back in 1997 she was sold to a collector in the Netherlands, during the 50^th Anniversary Grande Giro in Italy another 400 GTS was seen, chassis number #01240 with engine #1385 finished in black.

Today the two original 350 GTS are priceless, especially since only the whereabouts of #0325 are known, the #0328 hasn’t been seen since the late Eighties, so putting a price on these two is next to impossible, with the Miura Roadster being valued at $10,000,000 we might consider the 305 GTS being worth $5,000,000 or more while the conversions are naturally less valuable, they still demand a serious amount of money to acquire but they will never reach the level of exclusivity one the two 350 GTS will offer.

The Huracan Performante held the record at the Nurburgring in March 2017 with a lap time of only 6:52.01, since then the Performante managed to get hold of no less than 8 record times on various circuits around the world, a feat that has been made possible by adding 30 hp to the original 610hp V10 and shedding some weight along the way.

But probably the most contributing factor to this record-breaking streak would be ALA, or Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, an ingenious system that changes the airflow around this Bull dynamically to increase downforce and decrease drag when conditions require and by finish many of the exterior (and interior) parts in Forged Composite, the Performante looks as mean as she should be.

But the new Novitec Torado Huracan Spyder N-Largo isn’t a plain modification of the coupé kit to fit onto the Spyder, together with the original designer of the Huracan N-Largo, Vittorio Strosek, Novitec has made some modifications to this carbon fiber widebody kit.

Check the additional vents on the side of that wide front bumper, and a very nice, angular vent appeared in front of the rear wheel on this green Huracan Spyder that now measures 204 cm wide, those vents help to cool down the rear disc brakes under those 12 cm wider rear fenders.

If you take a closer look at the top of those wide front fenders (3 cm wider than standard) you will also note a trio of vents are cut on top of the wheel arches to evacuate heat from the disc brakes, while the massive black wheels look the same as those on the coupé version, lightweight NL2 forged wheels in 9×20 and 12,5×21 inch and wear 245/30 ZR 20 and 325/25 ZR 21 P Zero’s from Pirelli front and rear.

At the rear a large, clear carbon fiber rear wing is installed on this Verde Mantis demo Huracan Spyder from Novitec, while the very special front hood with the integrated vents can be ordered in clear carbon fiber too, so it matches the rear wing while lowering springs can bring the Huracan Spyder 35 mm closer to the track.

If you would like to have a more thundering sound in your Huracan Spyder N-Largo the Novitec Inconel exhaust system is available, with or without butterfly valves to create an even louder soundtrack … which might not be street legal in every country …

For the Coupé version Novitec had a Supercharger in the works that would raise power from the factory original 610hp to a massive 860hp (633kW) and only 25 Huracan N-Largo would be created … now the Huracan Spyder N-Largo is even more limited … only 11 units will be built worldwide while the supercharger is still under development.

If you are looking for a more aggressively styled Lamborghini Huracan Spyder this Novitec Torado N-Largo kit might be the perfect answer … we all know the Huracan Performante Spyder will be unveiled soon … but this isn’t a widebody by any means … the N-Largo adds 12cm to the rear …

Back in the days of the Gallardo the Coupé model was called the Superleggera while the Spyder received the Performante designation, but with the Huracan the Coupé already took the Performante name, so most likely this new model will become the Huracan Performante Spyder, the lightweight, active aerodynamic top of the line model in the series.

Due to ALA or the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, the engine cover on the Performante Spyder will most likely be different from the regular Huracan Spyder one, using special ducts that can be opened and close to change the airflow into the special, hollow rear wing found on the Performante to modify the downforce at the rear, while flaps in the new front spoiler will perform the same task on that end.
As for wheels, the Mimas model will most likely be standard while the new Narvi lightweight as seen on the Geneva show car and the center lock Logo wheels will be optionally available.

The new rear diffuser with the dual, high mounted exhaust pipes will emit a thundering sound that will be even more intimidating with the top down on the Performante Spyder, the use of carbon fiber and Forged Composite will allow a drop in weight, but it is unlikely the Performante Spyder will set the same, record-breaking, lap time on the Nürburgring as her closed counterpart because due to reinforcements needed after removing the roof will make the Performante Spyder about 120kg heavier than the regular Performante.

If the exterior of the Huracan Performante Spyder doesn’t already impress you, the interior surely will, fitted with the lightweight sports seats and available with a variety of contrasting stitching and laser etched patterns against the black Alcantara and the abundant use of Forged Composite.

If you prefer a more comfortable ride you can opt to have the regular seats fitted, upholstered in black Alcantara and with the possibility to have some impressive stitching added … the option list does not mention leather upholstery for the Huracan Performante because it is too ‘slippery’ for a track inspired car, but I’m sure you’ll be able to convince the Ad Personam director of fitting leather if you really insist.

The Huracan Performante Spyder might be unveiled to the public later this year, rumor has it the new Lamborghini Urus will take centre stage at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, so that is not an option for the Spyder then, perhaps we’ll be seeing Lamborghini back at the IAA in Frankfurt this year (last year they didn’t have a stand in Paris) to show us the impressive 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder … we’ll have to wait and see.

Automobili Lamborghini presents the Lamborghini Huracán rear-wheel drive Spyder, combining the lifestyle appeal of the convertible with the pure on-road experience of the Huracán’s rear-wheel drive technologies.

The rear-wheel drive Huracán Spyder features a newly designed front and rear with a dynamic but more aggressive look distinguishing it from the fourwheel drive version. Its naturally aspirated V10 5.2 l engine sends 426 kW / 580 hp to the rear axle, with its dry weight of just 1,509 kg providing a
weight-to-power ratio of 2.6 kg/hp. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 319 km/h.

The rear-wheel drive Spyder will be available in markets worldwide from January 2017, priced between the two and four-wheel drive coupe models and completing the core Huracán product range.

Soft-top design for a true Spyder
The front and rear of the car have been redesigned, with its dynamic good looks accented by the large front air intakes that direct cooling air and headwind to increase down pressure on the front axle. Pirelli PZero tires, exclusively developed for the rear-wheel drive Huracán, sit on 19″ Kari rims.
Specially contoured steel brakes with aluminum brake disc pots assist in weight reduction and improved cooling. Inside, the cockpit features the latest Lamborghini Infotainment System II with a 12.3″ hi-res TFT instrument panel.

The latest addition to the Huracán family adopts the soft-top solution of a true Spyder, distinguishing the convertible from its coupe sibling through a unique profile, with roof both up and down. Opening and closing in just 17 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h, the lightweight soft top is efficiently stowed to maintain the Spyder’s perfect center of gravity and highlight the dynamic design of the open car.

With the roof down, two distinctive fins rise out of the folding roof-casing to perfectly define the unique lines of the open car. Accenting the Huracán Spyder’s low, powerful appearance, the rear fins start at the seatbacks and continue the roof line to the rear, creating the Spyder’s flowing profile. The two fins contribute to optimizing airflow through the engine compartment, which is covered by a slatted engine bonnet specific to the Spyder.

An integrated duct reduces turbulence in the headroom during open top driving. With soft top both up and down the driver can also electronically open the rear window, which functions as a windshield when up and highlights the V10 engine’s unique sound when down. Two removable lateral windguards dampen lateral aerodynamic noise in the cabin, permitting conversations even at high speeds.

Engineered for rear-wheel drive performance
As it does in the rear-wheel drive Huracán coupe, the Spyder’s V10 5.2 l naturally aspirated, mid-mounted engine provides a maximum 426 kW (580 hp) power output at 8,000 rpm and 540 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, with 75% of torque already available at 1,000 rpm.

Like the coupe, the rear-wheel drive Spyder promises the thrill of two-wheel drive dynamics, roof up or down. Weighing 1,509 kg dry, the rear-wheel drive Huracán Spyder achieves a weight to power ratio of just 2.6 kg/hp. The Huracán’s exceptionally stiff hybrid aluminum and carbon fiber chassis is complemented by springs and anti-roll bars on double wishbone suspension, optimized for two-wheel drive. The power management system of the rearwheel drive includes a specific steering set-up and recalibrated stability and traction controls, connecting the driver as directly as possible with the road. Weight distribution is biased 40% at the front / 60% at the rear, reducing inertia on the front axle compared to the Huracán 4WD version.

The Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) seven-speed dual clutch architecture ensures the fastest gear changes and includes ‘launch control’ for maximum acceleration from a standing start. The electronic power steering and optional Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) are tuned specifically for the rear-wheel drive Spyder, ensuring maximum agility and control in every driving condition, depending on driving mode and speed.

Rear kinematics heighten the car’s ‘centered’ feeling and the new Spyder features the Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI), the Huracán’s sensor system placed in the center of gravity of the car, tracing all 3D movements. It provides real time information to the optional Magneto Rheological Suspension (MRS), steering and stability control systems: the ESC has been regulated to adapt to all adherence conditions yet emphasize the rear-wheel drive behavior in each driving mode.

The ANIMA (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management: ‘soul’ in Italian) button on the steering wheel allows the driver to adopt different driving modes, calibrated to suit the spirit of the rear-wheel drive model. STRADA for daily use, SPORT for sporty driving fun, and CORSA for maximum track-oriented performance are tuned to provide over-steering characteristics, emphasizing authentic rear-wheel drive behavior.

As in all Huracán models, cylinder deactivation improves engine efficiency, reduces fuel consumption and reduces CO2. When full engine capacity is not required, five of the ten cylinders are temporarily deactivated by switching off one cylinder bank. When the driver accelerates, the system switches back instantaneously to ten-cylinder mode, with the changeover being virtually impossible to detect by the driver.

Available at the worldwide dealer locations from January 2017 on, this new addition to the Huracan lineup brings the thrill of rear-wheel drive to the Lamborghini heritage while offering open-top cruising at the same time perfect combination.

By removing the drive to the front wheels a weight saving of 33 kg has been achieved compared with the Huracan LP610-4 Spyder, the RWD variant weighs only 1,509 kg, with 580 hp available top speed is no less than 319 km/h with acceleration figures of 3.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h only 0.2 seconds slower than her 610 hp counterpart.

Just like the Huracan LP580-2 or RWD Coupé, this new Spyder received the modified front and rear sections, the front bumper shows more angular intakes with a horizontal fin in the middle while the section below the taillights at the rear boasts a different design compared to the 610-4 model.

Standard fit on the 2017 Huracan RWD Spyder is the 19-inch Kari wheels with steel disc brakes and aluminum calipers as seen on the Coupé version, but both Giano and Mimas are available as an option on this model, as are carbon ceramic disk brakes with color-coded calipers.

On the inside, the new Huracan LP580-2 Spyder can be configured just like the 610-4 version, with upholstery in leather, Alcantara, or a combination, contrasting stitching, Q-Citura stitching, carbon fiber parts, or the more special Forged Composite finish on parts of the dashboard, central console, and door panels the sky is the limit when it comes to customization at Lamborghini and when the normal options list isn’t extensive enough you can always turn to the Ad Personam program to really make a difference.

A lot of controversies came up when Lamborghini unveiled the Huracan LP610-4 Spyder at the Geneva Auto Show with a soft top, people were expecting a foldable hardtop as seen on some of the competition but Lamborghini kept the lightweight canvas roof and adopted a slightly different profile to separate the Coupé styling from the Spyder, creating two different models in the same range the new LP580-2 Spyder keeps this philosophy alive today.

Even when going down the road at speeds up to 50 km/h you can hit the switch and open the roof in a mere 17 seconds to be folded behind the seats underneath a special cover with integrated ducts to avoid buffeting in the cockpit while the special design of the engine cover allows better airflow through the engine bay.

The 2017 Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 Spyder is a nice alternative for those that want to have fun behind the wheel of a Lamborghini with the top down while enjoying the added thrill of the rear-wheel drive only perhaps only for the more experienced drivers.

Carbon, forged wheels and a supercharged V-10 rated at 633 kW / 860 hp and 960 Nm peak torque
One of the most beautiful experiences on four wheels is enjoying summer in an open-top sports car. NOVITEC TORADO offers especially exclusive open-air fun with the new customization range for the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder.

The refinement specialist for the sports cars from Sant’Agata Bolognese lends the two-seater an even more spectacular outfit with strikingly styled and efficient aerodynamic-enhancement components, optionally made from carbon, and tailor-made hi-tech forged wheels.

While the supercharged version of the Huracán that will have around 633 kW / 860 hp is still in the development stage, NOVITEC TORADO sports exhaust systems with or without controlled butterfly valves are already available now.

The product lineup is rounded out with luxury interiors tailored to the individual customer’s request.
Making spectacular sports cars even more spectacular has been the specialty of the designers of NOVITEC Group for many decades. Now there is also a NOVITEC TORADO aerodynamic-enhancement kit for the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder. The components, optionally also available in a naked carbon version, are of course available in the right variants for the coupe variant of the Huracan as well.

The open-top two-seater looks even more athletic when clad in the NOVITEC TORADO designer outfit. What is more: The complex wind tunnel tests resulted in further optimized aerodynamic properties. The designers developed a new front spoiler, a central front blade and side flaps that attach to the production bumper. An equally innovative idea from NOVITEC TORADO is the special trunk deck, whose air ducts on the left and right-hand side further reduce lift on the front axle. This improves the handling stability especially at high speeds. The carbon covers for the door mirrors round out the racing looks effectively.

Just as sophisticated is the design of the NOVITEC TORADO rocker panels, which create a perfect transition between the front and rear wheel arches and thus minimize turbulences at the sides of the vehicle. In addition, they give the Huracán Spyder a lower and sleeker visual stance.

The rear end also underwent a sporty NOVITEC TORADO upgrade: The shapes of the diffuser and rear spoiler lip were refined in the wind tunnel to create an optimal aerodynamic balance in concert with the NOVITEC TORADO bodywork components at the front. A large rear airfoil is optionally available for the Spyder. A strikingly styled rear molding forms an even more spectacular backdrop for the taillights of the Huracán. A tailor-made carbon cover for the ten-cylinder engine continues the racing look in the engine bay.

Wheels make a car, and consequently NOVITEC TORADO also offers tailor-made wheels manufactured using hi-tech forging technology. Five distinctive pairs of spokes that extend to the outer edge of the rim flange lend the Italian sports car fascinating looks. The combination of 20-inch rims at the front and 21-inch wheels on the rear axle emphasizes the wedge shape of the Lamborghini.

The three-piece NL1 alloys, which come in practically all colors and even in an especially sporty version with carbon coating on the outer rim wells, are mounted on the Huracán at the front in size 9Jx20 with 245/30 ZR 20 tires. The wheel arches on the rear axle are filled out perfectly by 12.5Jx21 rims and 325/25 ZR 21 tires. Pirelli supplies the optimal rubber in form of its P-Zero high-performance tires.

NOVITEC TORADO sport springs lower the ride height of the two-seater by about 35 millimeters and due to the lower center of gravity also benefit the handling. A height-adjustable coilover suspension will soon be available for all Huracán models.

Also under development is an extremely powerful NOVITEC TORADO twin-supercharger version of the Huracán. With a peak output of around 633 kW / 860 hp and a peak torque of about 960 Nm, this tuning variant has the world’s most powerful super sports cars dead in its sights.

One indispensable component of this high-performance version of the Huracán is already available now: The NOVITEC TORADO sport exhaust systems optimize the power delivery. What’s more: They also produce a much more potent exhaust note. The variants with actively controlled butterfly valves permit adjusting the sound at the touch of a button in the cockpit between sporty and racing-like. NOVITEC TORADO also offers variety when it comes to the material of choice for these exhaust systems. Apart from stainless steel, customers can opt for the extremely lightweight INCONEL, a material also used in Formula 1 racing. As a result, the optimized power delivery goes hand in hand with significant weight savings over the production exhaust. In addition, NOVITEC TORADO also offers lighter and more efficient sport catalysts.

Another domain of NOVITEC TORADO is creating an even more exclusive cockpit in practically any color imaginable. Individual customer requests are fulfilled using the finest leathers and Alcantara.

It took Novitec a while to get hold of a Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Spyder, but they managed to obtain a Verde Mantis in their workshop and turned it into a full Torado Spyder specs car, the supercharger that will boost power output of the V10 up to 860 hp from the standard 610 is still under development, but I’m sure the factory power output will do for now.

Note that this entire aerodynamic package is available for both the Huracan LP610-4 Coupé and Spyder and can optionally be delivered in clear carbon fiber which gives the Huracán Spyder a very exclusive look and feel.

Up front there is a new front spoiler lip that wraps around the corner, it can be competed with a center blade and side fins that are fixed onto the original bumper, but three is also another, small fin that can be fixed on the upper lip in the center intake. As usual Novitec can replace the front hood with a new one incorporating air ducts that effectively reduce lift at the front.

A pair of special Novitec Torado side sills connect the front and rear wheels and reduce air turbulence on the sides, together with carbon fiber rear view mirror covers these sills totally change the side view of the already sensual looking Huracán Spyder … visually lowering the car already.

At the back a new lower rear diffuser and rear spoiler lip create a better aerodynamic air flow and look striking along the way … note that all Novitec Torado parts are meticulously developed and tested in a wind tunnel to make sure they add stability to the car, that is why Novitec Torado also has larger rear wings available for the Spyder … just in case the customer prefers a more aggressive look at the back.

You can opt for the larger rear wing, the double rear wing and even the N-Largo rear wing … could there be an N-Largo Spyder in the making?

To complete the exterior carbon fiber look you can opt for the Novitec Torado taillight molding, this fin sits underneath and between the original taillights, but with a clear carbon fiber finish it makes a spectacular difference … if you open the engine cover and find a lack of carbon fiber there, fear not as Novitec Torado has a cover for the V10 engine available.

P-Zero tires from Pirelli are mounted on tailor made Novitec NL1, three-piece wheels … 9×20 inch up front and 12.5×21 inch at the rear with 245/30ZR20 and 325/25ZR21 respectively while a 35mm lowering spring kit from Novitec lowers the center of gravity … in the near future an adjustable coilover suspension will be available.

If the factory original sound of that amazing V10 isn’t good enough the Novitec Torado customer can opt for a special sport exhaust system, either in stainless steel or in lightweight Inconel … there is even an exhaust system with butterfly valves that can be opened remotely … silent mode … or race mode.

We’ve already mentioned it, Novitec Torado is working on a bolt on supercharger kit that will result in a power output of 860 hp with a maximum torque of 960 Nm … up from 610 hp and 560 Nm respectively … that’s a serious upgrade.

Only 18 months after the initial unveil of the Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 the 2015 IAA event in Frankfurt became the scene for the convertible version of this V10 Raging Bull, or the Huracán LP610-4 Spyder as they call it in Sant’Agata … and later that year, at the LA Auto Show in November Automobili Lamborghini SpA surprised us with the Huracán LP580-2 … a rear wheel drive version, slightly less power but with a nicely modified front and rear bumper, and rolling on 19-inch Kira wheels instead of the 20-inch Giano (or optional Mimas) wheels on the LP610-4 model.

Center stage at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show was taken by the limited edition Centenario LP770-4, a car that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Ferruccio Lamborghini, but they also introduced a limited edition V10 model, the Huracán LP610-4 Avio, inspired by the Italian Air Force and available in a series of special, matte paint finishes.

In early May 2016 the next model in the Huracán series was spotted during a test drive at the factory in Sant’Agata … without any kind of camouflage to hide the details, the white car was obviously the Huracán LP580-2 Spyder version being driven on the open road, complete with the optional, red fabric folding roof and the standard, silver finished Kira wheels.

This evolution is just the logical next step, we already have the four wheel drive LP610-4 in both Coupé and Spyder form, so adding the Spyder body to the rear wheel drive LP580-2 Coupé makes perfect sense from a marketing point of view … with the LP580-2 Coupé being listed at a lower price than the LP610-4 variant, the LP580-2 Spyder will also be ‘cheaper’ than the LP610-4 Spyder … and in capable hands might even offer a more interesting driving experience driving 580hp to the rear wheels only.

The main difference between the Huracán LP610-4 Spyder and this soon to be unveiled LP580-2 Spyder version naturally boils down to the engine, still the same V10 unit, but with 30 less hp and no power to the front wheels in case of the latter one. Other differences are the front bumper and the rear diffuser unit … some argue the styling on the LP580-2 is more aggressive compared to the original LP610-4 units, and might eve be an indication of the design we could expect on the Huracán Superleggera edition, the street legal GT3/Super Trofeo version of the V10.

Nothing official has been released yet, but with their white test car being captured in Sant’Agata and published all over the world I think we’ll be seeing a press release and factory photos being available rather quickly now … to keep you from having to wait I created a few renders that show some different shades on this new Huracán LP580-2 Spyder.

China is still one of the most important markets for Automobili Lamborghini SpA, the Huracán achieved an historic sales record in 2015 with 2,242 units delivered to customers … in fact in the first 18 months after the introduction the Huracán outsold the Gallardo by 70%.

After being in production for only two years the Lamborghini Huracán range has already been expanded to cater for different customers, the original LP610-4 model is still selling steadily, but for the more demanding driver, with 580hp going to the rear wheels only the driving experience is amazing.

The Huracán LP610-4 Avio is a limited edition taking inspiration from aviation, available in a series of special, matte shades with special striping and logo, the Avio will only be built 250 times and can reach speeds over 325 km/h just like the regular LP610-4 model.

For the MY2016 the Lamborghini Huracán there have been some modifications, like the ‘Cylinder on demand’ feature that can deactivate cylinders when their power is not required, also a ‘start and stop’ has been implemented … when standing still at the red light for instance the engine stops running, only to be activated again when you accelerate. A new electronically controlled all-wheel drive setup on the LP610-4 versions improves driving behavior further.

With the top down the Huracán’s V10 engine sound is just music to your ears when driving the Spyder, even with the Anima switch in Strada the roar of that V10 engine is making the hair on your arms stand up … switch to Corsa and the rumble behind you becomes even more intense, complete with a nice ‘pop’ when downshifting.

With the dual buttress design of the Huracán Spyder it might me a good idea to have the rear view camera installed as the standard interior rear view mirror is not really showing a lot, not even with the roof down in fact, note that the transformation from the original Coupé into this beautiful Spyder adds 100 kg to the scales.

The option list of the Huracán LP610-4 Spyder shows some interesting items for the interior, like a new style of stitching made available for the seats, door panels and parts of the new bulkhead (note the seats in the Spyder are not allowed to move as much back as on the Coupé to avoid rubbing the bulkhead with the back of the seat) … an absolutely stunning hexagon pattern can be stitched on parts of the interior, complete with Huracán script on the seat and a nice Tricolore line.

That Tricolore line and script can also be ordered for the floor carpets in your Huracán LP610-4 Spyder, and if you really want your V10 to be noticed you might even go for the Forged Composite interior package … very different and extremely special looking.

The special carbon fiber, lightweight sport seats are now an option on both the Huracán Coupé and the Spyder, perhaps not as comfortable as the usual seats, but they sure look amazing with those small pads added onto a carbon fiber frame … add the Lamborghini branding package and you not only get a Lamborghini script on the dashboard in front of the passenger, the headrest on the seats show the famous Raging Bull crest.

The Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Spyder has a top speed of 324 Km/h (201 Mph) … both with the top up and down, at that speed you might think wind is a problem behind the steering wheel. But Lamborghini has his covered, between the two high buttress sections behind the seats there is a window that can be raised to avoid wind buffeting into the cabin … and there are two additional fins to be mounted on the buttress to keep wind from entering the cabin from the side … a very nice detail from Lamborghini that keeps the cabin free from wind intrusion up to 130 Km/h (80 Mph).

By adding strengthening structures to the front and rear of the car the Huracán Spyder is about 60% stiffer compared to the Gallardo Spyder and in the event of a crash where the V10 rolls over there are anti-roll bars that jump out in a fraction of a second to protect the occupants.

The very nice canvas top of the Huracán Spyder is available in three shades, standard black and optional in red or grey … the transformation from closed to open takes 17 seconds after pressing the button on the central console near the handbrake, even while driving at speeds up to 50 Km/h (30 Mph).

If one thing was made obvious by the first road tests of the Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Spyder it is the fact this open top Raging Bull hasn’t lost any of her driving characteristics when compared against the closed Coupé Huracán … taking away the roof has had next to no influence on the stiffness of this new V10 Bull making this a very desirable super car that offers the option of driving with the top down when the weather permits, and driving with the top up in the rain … what more could you ask for?

A toned down, street legal version of the Huracán Super Trofeo race car is certain to be built, probably called the Huracán Superleggera like back in the days of the Gallardo, most likely some kind of update or facelift will be executed before a top of the range Huracán Squadra Corse comes out to conclude the Huracán life span after which a totally new model is introduced.

It would be nice to have a more aggressive looking Huracán LP630-4 Superleggera up next, but what about a limited series of an Huracán LP580-2 Balboni with that special white stripe in the middle like we’ve seen on the Gallardo LP550-2 Balboni … a render of such an Huracán does look really nice I have to say.

But that is probably not in the pipeline at Automobili Lamborghini SpA I guess as the famous Valentino Balboni is no longer on the payroll in Sant’Agata as a full time employee … and to have a special edition Huracán LP580-2 Sanna (for Giorgio Sanne, the chief test driver at Lamborghini right now) might be a little early in his career.

On the other hand, imagine what Kato-san could do to the new Lamborghini Huracán LP580-2 … with the rear wheel drive setup it would make an amazing drift car with those large LB Performance fenders installed … they are ready and available for the LP610-4, so fitting them onto an LP580-2 shouldn’t be a problem at all.

But back to reality … the official factory brochure for the Lamborghini Huracán LP580-2 lists a total of 20 different shades available for this new rear wheel drive only model:

Two solid colors: Nero Noctis and Bianco Monocerus

Six metallic colors: Nero Serapis, Grigio Lynx, Bianco Icarus, Blu Achelous, Grigio Nimbus and Rosso Mars

Three pearl effect colors: Arancio Borealis, Giallo Midas and Verde Mantis

Five Ad Personam Matt colors: Nero Nemesis, Marrone Apus, Bianco Canopus, Grigio Titans and Giallo Horus

Three Ad Personam metallic colors: Marrone Alcestis, Grigio Admetus and Blu Caelum

Naturally you can order just about any color you like in the Ad Personam program, but those are the shades listed by Lamborghini to give you an indication of what to pick when it’s time to visit the local dealer and finalize your order.

Automobili Lamborghini presents the new Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder at Frankfurt International Motor Show. The open top version of the Huracán LP 610-4 combines the power and performance of the coupé with the emotion of open-air driving.

The new Huracán Spyder stands for inspiring technology, outstanding quality and breathtaking performance. Luxurious comfort with a pure and dynamic design ensures the convertible version of the Huracán is an iconic Lamborghini in its own right. Its lightweight, electrohydraulic soft top gives the new Lamborghini a distinctive presence with roof both open and closed, and maximum comfort for driver and passenger with uncompromising handling and performance.

The naturally aspirated 5.2l V10 engine produces 449 kW / 610 hp. The new Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph). The Spyder also includes new technical features of the 2016 model year Huracán family, including ‘cylinder on demand’ in combination with ‘stop start’, and a new electronically controlled all-wheel drive set-up for even improved driving behavior.

Design and the new soft top solution

The Huracán Spyder demonstrates the latest evolution of Lamborghini’s characteristic design language. It provides outstanding visual impact while adhering to the Lamborghini principle of ‘form follows function’: the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder is as exciting to look at as it is to drive.

The most distinctive feature of the Huracán Spyder is its new soft top. The roof is available in three different colors: black, brown and red. Even with the roof up, the lines of the Spyder differ significantly from those of the coupé. At 4.46 meters (175.59 in) long and 1.92 meters (75.59 in) wide, the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder stands just 1.18 meters (46.46 in) high. The lightweight soft top fits perfectly into the Spyder’s silhouette while up, and when down is hidden away into the most efficient space possible, maintaining the Spyder’s perfect center of gravity and revealing the athletic and equally powerful lines of the open car. Hidden automatic pop-up safety bars do not spoil the open car’s low silhouette.

The new electrohydraulic, lightweight soft top opens via a button positioned on the central tunnel in just 17 seconds up to a driving speed of 50 km/h (31 mph). Whether the soft top is up or down, the driver can also electronically open the rear window, which functions as a windshield when closed and when open, as an amplifier of the unique engine sound of the naturally aspirated V10.

With the roof down, a distinctive design solution with two movable fins has been developed. The fins become visible during the opening process, rising out of the folding roof casing and perfectly defining the design of the open car. Enhancing the car’s low, powerful appearance, these rear fins that start at the seatbacks continue the roof line to the rear, perfectly shaping the side view of the Spyder. An integrated duct reduces turbulence in the headroom during open top driving.

For even further comfort there are two removable lateral wind guards damping the lateral aerodynamic pulsations, thus ensuring perfect acoustic comfort that allows a conversation even at high speeds. Aerodynamic studies have resulted in leaving the upper part of the windshield free from any wind nets or mobile spoilers. A simple wind brace is discreetly embellished tone-ontone with the Huracán Spyder’s logo, or can be additionally personalized. Last but not least, the two fins contribute to optimizing airflow through the engine compartment, which is covered by a slatted engine bonnet specific to the Spyder. The air intakes of the engine compartment are painted in black.

Chassis

The hybrid chassis of the Huracán Spyder LP 610-4 combines aluminum components front and rear with extensive carbon fiber elements in the occupants’ cell. The exterior skin is made from aluminum.

This lightweight chassis provides exceptional torsional stiffness for an open top car, improved by 40% over its Gallardo predecessor, and delivering the handling precision of a race car whilst forming the backbone of the lightweight engineering concept. The new Spyder boasts a dry weight of just 1,542 kilograms (3,399 lbs), giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 2.53 kilograms (5.57 lbs) per hp.

The Huracán Spyder’s outstanding aerodynamics include a fully flat and smooth underbody, while a large diffuser dissipates air beneath the rear end and a fixed spoiler is integrated into the tail. In terms of downforce, the Huracán Spyder exceeds its Gallardo predecessor by 50%, and with roof closed benefits from a very low drag coefficient with wind noise virtually eliminated.

Drive

The naturally aspirated, long-stroke V10 engine delivers its full, engaging “potential in the Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder, especially with the top down. Offering the same technical qualities as in the Huracán Coupé, it is a sports car engine at its very best. It is extremely responsive, revs up to 8,700 rpm and composes a richly tuneful and unmistakeable symphony of sound. From its 5.2-liter displacement, it generates 449 kW / 610 hp at 8,250 rpm, delivering 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm. The “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” combines direct and indirect gasoline injection.

The top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph) and the acceleration figures – 0 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.2 seconds – confirm the uncompromised performance of the two-seater Spyder. Thanks in part to the new stop start technology and cylinder on demand, i.e. the deactivation of one cylinder bank under partial load, its ECE standardized fuel consumption is a mere 12.3 liters per 100 km. The Huracán Spyder’s CO2 emissions have been reduced by 14% compared to the Gallardo Spyder, despite a significant increase in performance.

The “Lamborghini Doppia Frizione” (LDF) 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox shifts at lightning speed. At the heart of the transmission is a hydraulic multi-plate coupling. The fully electronically controlled coupling, which is actively cooled for maximum performance, can switch the torque freely between the two axles, with perfect weight distribution of 43/57 front/rear, as in the coupé. At the rear, a mechanical differential lock ensures powerful traction.

As in the coupé, the ANIMA switch (Advanced Network Intelligence MAnagement) on the steering wheel allows various driving modes to be selected, from sporty and dynamic to extreme performance and handling.
The three different programs “Strada”, “Sport” and “Corsa” impact the characteristics of the engine, sound, transmission, all-wheel drive and ESC handling system. Working in the background is the LPI system (Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale). Six sensors supply information on the car’s movement; the LPI then sends the information at lightning speed to all handling systems.

The standard-fit carbon-ceramic brake system provides the Huracán Spyder with immensely powerful and reliable deceleration. The front discs measure 380 millimeters (14.96 in) in diameter and, as an option, Lamborghini also offers painted brake calipers in a choice of colors. There are lightweight aluminum double wishbone suspension arms at all four wheels.

Lamborghini offers the optional LDS (Lamborghini Dynamic Steering) system, which adapts its ratio to the road speed, and magneto-rheological damper control, which changes the damper characteristics in accordance with driver preferences and driving style.

Interior and equipment

An innovative cockpit dominates the interior. The 12.3-inch TFT display can be configured in several modes and offers the driver all key information in a virtual representation, including the optional navigation map. The displays are razor sharp, brilliant and incredibly detailed: the virtual rev counter needle, for instance, is recalculated 60 times a second, ensuring it flows absolutely smoothly even under full acceleration. The TFT display is part of the new standard-fit Lamborghini Infotainment System II.

The driver can control the display functions via the buttons on the steering wheel: the only other operating elements are the shift paddles. The buttons for the soft top and the rear windshield are on the center-tunnel console as is the start button for the V10 engine, located beneath a red cover as in a military jet. The electric seats of the Huracán Spyder are equipped with an ECU that ensures all movements are made without engine wall contact.

The slender dashboard and center console contribute to the elegance of the interior design. The beautifully crafted interior, which can be extensively individualized, conveys refined quality and features Alcantara and fine nappa leather. There are five trim choices – Standard, Elegante, Sportivo with Alcantara, Sportivo bicolor with Alcantara and Sportivo bicolor with soft leather – as well as 17 interior colors.

The soft top is available in black, brown and red, complementing a choice of eleven external colors. The Ad Personam individualization program offers further alternatives, including five matt exterior colors.

Standard fit items contribute to the luxurious lifestyle personality of the Huracán Spyder. These include LED headlamps and rear lights, 20-inch Giano wheels and the new multi-media Lamborghini Infotainment System II with operating terminal on the center-tunnel console. In addition, the new options on offer reflect the high-tech character of the new Spyder. These include the exterior Style package and ranges through the Sensonum ® high end Sound system (available in selected markets) to the Lamborghini Dynamic Steering system.

Production and pricing

The Huracán Spyder LP 610-4 – the ‘610’ denoting the horsepower and the ‘4’ referring to all-wheel drive – is built to uncompromising quality in a state-of-the-art production facility at the Automobili Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Customer deliveries begin in spring 2016 at a price of 186.450 Euros + taxes.

Keep in mind the soft top can be ordered in three shades, the usual black, but also red and brown, depending on which exterior color is selected from the vast palette of paint available as standard, option or in the Ad Personam program.

After the press conference at the IAA in Frankfurt there will be many more photos and lots of additional information available, but for those who would like to see another shade than the bright blue metallic paint from the press release car I put together some virtual renders showing some of the more popular shades.

The official press conference will take place inside the IAA show on September 15th at 12:20 … we will finally get to see if the rumors are true … has Lamborghini been testing their new V10 Spyder on the open road in preparation for a worldwide unveil in Frankfurt.

Another unconfirmed fact is the roof of the new Huracan Spyder … a lot of people were expecting a hard top like most of the competition, but with a price list showing a ‘fabric color’ option it is highly unlikely Lamborghini  followed the trend for a metal or carbon fiber folding roof … but went for the well-known canvas top, just like the Gallardo Spyder before and the new Audi R8 Spyder prototype that has been spotted recently.

Most likely we’ll be seeing a few teasers in the days before the opening of the IAA in Frankfurt, until the car will be officially unveiled during the VAG VIP night event ahead of the official press conference on Tuesday … I for one can’t wait to admire the open top Huracan in real life…

Probably one of the biggest surprises is the fact the brand new Huracan Spyder will not be using a foldable metal or carbon fiber roof … but a soft top like the Gallardo did … which does give a lot more room for a nice and clean design of the rear section on the new V10 drop top.

So we now know there will be a fabric soft top protecting owner from the outside, and the price list mentions a few nice options in fact … the customer can have the soft top finished in the traditional black fabric, but as a free of charge option you can opt for a red fabric or a brown fabric … by offering this kind of personalization Lamborghini is clearly setting the Huracan Spyder apart from the competition.

There is one detail to note however … on the regular Huracan Coupé you can order the very nice glass engine cover that comes with the Forged Composite engine bay …. but on the Spyder this option isn’t available, in fact no glass engine cover is possible on the Huracan Spyder at this moment … note this is the same as with the Gallardo Spyder in fact.

Naturally nothing has been officially published on the design of the Huracan LP610-4 Spyder, so all the renders on this page are purely fictional … but it is always nice to dream about how this amazing V10 convertible will look … on September 15 we could be admiring the real deal in Frankfurt …

If you ask around most people will say the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Spyder will be shown at the IAA in Frankfurt later this year, this might be true, or not … only time will tell, but the fact Lamborghini will be building a Spyder version of their successful V10 model is certain, when is one of the questions that remain.

Another question is about the roof system Lamborghini will be using on their Huracan Spyder, back in the days of the Gallardo Spyder a canvas folding roof worked nicely and the result was a breathtakingly beautiful V10, but these days the competition have come up with metal folding roofs that hide under covers behind the headrest when open … shouldn’t Lamborgini come up with something like that too and avoid a canvas roof for their new V10 Spyder model.

One of the issues with the roof on the Huracan Spyder might be the small detail of where to store it when open … mind you the V10 engine in the Gallardo left more room to store the canvas roof when folded underneath the large engine cover that swiveled open from the rear … on the Huracan it seems like there is no space left behind the seats to store a canvas roof.

But if there is no space for a canvas roof there might not be room for a metal folding roof either as seen on other convertibles these days, so that’s perhaps not an option in this case … the only remaining solution would be to take a close look at the Aventador Roadster and create a similar two panel roof section on the Huracan … and have them stored up front when not in use.

If you think about it, this two panel roof section might not be such a bad idea after all, if you put the roof in place it is strong and helps to reduce flex inherent in cars that have the roof removed, because these panels are made from carbon fiber they are light, so the weight balance isn’t hurt too bad … and when you store the two panels up front it actually helps the chassis again to counteract flexing … but will customers be happy with a Huracan that needs manual work to drive open … most of the competition in this segment offer a push-button, automatic system.

In the end it all comes down to ease of use and naturally looks … the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder will need to look stunning, and offer the option of driving with the top down when weather permits … and be able to protect you from bad weather when needed … in a hurry.

We’ve done some renders on how the Huracan Spyder might look with different roof configuration, one with a two panel system based on the Aventador Roadster, another one showing a metal folding roof system with black buttress to store the roof under … and one with a more traditional canvas folding roof like on the Gallardo … in all honesty I have to admit I prefer the one with the canvas roof as it offers the nicest ‘design’ from all angles, even with the roof up she still looks nice.

If we will be seeing the Huracan Spyder in a few months at the IAA in Frankfurt remains to be seen, and what kind of roof she will get is still a secret too … perhaps if we get a glimpse of the new Audi R8 Spyder we might see what kind of roof they use … most likely the Huracan will use a similar one.

For those that are eagerly awaiting the official unveil of the convertible version of the very successful Huracan I’ve created a few renders showing how she might look in Rosso Mars, Bianco Monocerus and Verde Mantis … I even added custom wheels and the entire DMC Affari kit onto her, just to make it even more interesting.

Clear carbon fiber DMC parts contrast nicely with the red, white and green shade of this angular styled V10 Raging Bull, add a set of 20/21inch wheels to complete the look, up front 8.5×20 with 245/30R20 while the rear received 21×21 and 325/25R21 rubber to emphasize the wedge look even further.

In early statements Automobili Lamborghini SpA mentioned they are not going down the same route as with the Gallardo, releasing countless different evolutions and special editions … the line up for the Huracan should be a lot smaller, we now have the initial LP610-4 model that will remain the base until a facelift evolution will come around … next up will be a topless version, most likely called the Huracan LP610-4 Spyder that might see the light of day as early as 2015 already and naturally a lightweight, more powerful version will be required too, something like a Huracan LP650-4 Superleggera that will be unveiled relatively soon too as it will be the base for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series race car to succeed the current Gallardo based car.

That means things could get really interesting in 2015 already, the 2014 Blancpain Super Trofeo series will use the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera based car until the end of the season with the world champion race that combines the winners for the European, the Asian and the American Super Trofeo Series to decide who takes the title of world champion … but that also means the 2015 season could require a brand new car, based on the Huracan and preferably with more power and less weight so the Squadra Corse department in Sant’Agata can develop their new race car in time.

But lets focus on the road going Huracan LP610-4 Spyder first, I guess the canvas foldaway roof from the Gallardo will no longer be used and a lightweight carbon fibre unit will take its place for the Huracan, when open the V10 Bull should show a very nice and clean profile but I still rendered it with stylish roll-over bars behind the seats, this breaks the otherwise straight line from front to rear and it is a valuable safety measure to protect the driver and passenger in case of an accident.

Naturally the entire rear section has been modified to convert the closed coupé into an open top Spyder, the shoulder mounted air intakes are lowered but still there and functional while the engine cover is also lowered behind the seats, I went for the glass option cover so people can admire the beautiful V10 engine surrounded by the new Lamborghini Forged Composite material … and while I was thinking about the Huracan LP650-4 Superleggera I decided to create the convertible counterpart too … check out the renders for a Lamborghini Huracan LP650-4 Performante I created, finished either in Bianco Icarus or Rosso Mars.

After doing a little research I found out who actually created this unique convertible … Super Modern Services based in Singapore, in fact this car already stirred up emotions when it was still black … wearing a custom made bodykit that made the front look like a Lamborghini Aventador … but that wasn’t even the most eye-catching feature of it … the paintjob was.

The exterior rear view mirrors and the front hood showed a very special finish, almost like fish scales, while a wide TriColore stripe was fitted in the middle … side skirts and a custom rear diffuser made the pre-2008 Gallardo Spyder look really different … but that just wasn’t enough for the owner … he went the extra Mile and completely transformed this V10 convertible.

Super Modern Services from Singapore went to work on this black Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, creating a bespoke kit to transform this V10 into a rolling showcase of their top of the line work … wide wheels were installed (showing a Wald logo) and work began on creating the custom made wide body parts.

The already custom front bumper was even further modified, different side vents with additional fins and the original ‘canards’ on the side were removed and wider front fenders were perfectly ‘incorporated’ into the bumper while the side sills were replaced by wider units running into extremely wide rear wheel arches and a massive side air intake, note the front of the side sills show a vertical fin while the front fenders are actually so wide they don’t touch the doors anymore but feature an air vent … and another vertical fin, running down this time.

The rear wheel arches were made very wide and show a lot of lines, streaks and vents … one might state the design is a bit cluttered, but most of the lines actually do run into a molded in rear wing and the rear bumper. Around the back the entire rear section was highly modified too, the later 2009 model taillights were mounted in a rear fascia that shows Aventador influences, if you look closely at the rear you will notice the Lamborghini script is actually flanked by two special mounts … looking at the width of these mounts I can only imagine Super Modern Services is planning on a massive rear wing to be added soon.

To be honest the red and black paint does look rather good on this car, it emphasizes the very special design of the aerodynamic kit … and I for one prefer it to the full black livery the car had before … the rear bumper and lower diffuser is entirely finished in glossy black, and it holds a center mounted exhaust tip … which looks to be a fake, just for show. Note this is a pre-2008 Gallardo Spyder … these had only one exhaust pipe left and right.

Today this red and black Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder by Super Modern Services shows dual exhaust tips on either side … but only one of them is an actual exhaust, the second one is just for show … in the end this really is an impressive … show car.

You have to admit the amount of work, and costs that went into creating this one of a kind Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder can only be admired … if you like the result … or hate it … is a personal, subjective opinion … you can’t deny it is very special, and that is just what the owner was trying to achieve with this total customization.

With 610hp from the 5.2 liter V10 engine the new Huracán can do 100Km/h from a stand still in only 3.2 seconds while the 200Km/h marker is reached in less than 10 seconds … top speed over 325Km/h just to mention a few numbers.

But we all know this Huracán LP610-4 is just the beginning of a series of evolutions to come in the next years … models like a Spyder, a Superleggera and a Blancpain Super Trofeo are surely in the pipeline up next … so why not take a sneak peak into the future of this new V10 Raging Bull.

First up will probably be a Huracán LP610-4 Spyder that will allow open top motoring in true Lamborghini style. As with the outgoing Gallardo I don’t think the new Huracán Spyder will be using one or more removable panels like the beautiful Aventador LP700-4 Roadster does … the V10 Spyder will have a roof that folds down by the push of a button, the only question will be if Lamborghini stays with a canvas roof or if they will take the route of a metal sectioned roof construction … whichever option they decide on in Sant’Agatha I’m sure the Huracán LP610-4 Spyder will look absolutely amazing, even more so in the bright Arancio Borealis pearl metallic orange shade for instance.

Usually the next evolution after a Spyder version becomes available is a high powered lightweight version, so that could be a Huracán LP650-4 Superleggera for instance … increased power output from the known V10 engine and weight reduction by using even more carbon fiber and lightweight seats, possibly removing a few creature comforts from the standard fitment list … add some special wheels, clear carbon fiber parts for the exterior including a nice rear wing … and a decal on the door … meet the Huracán LP650-4 Superleggera finished in Verde Ithaca.

If all goes as planned the current, 2013 specs Blancpain Super Trofeo race car will again be used for the 2014 season … however the 2015 Blancpain Super Trofeo championship will be taking the Huracán to the race track, most likely in a full race dress inspired by the latest Gallardo evolution … I’ve put together the Reiter Engineering version finished in black and white with the stunning Blancpain logo on the side.

Next step could be an open top version of the high power LP650-4 Superleggera edition … the so-called Huracán LP650-4 Performante, boasting a foldable roof with the styling cues from the Superleggera rolling on some amazing wheels … I put together a virtual concept finished in white … just like the Gallardo LP570-4 Performante back in late 2010.

Now we already know the new Lamborghini Huracán shouldn’t be getting the long list of models and special editions like the Gallardo did, so no BiColore, TriColore, Hong Kong … or any other of those low number versions … still towards the end of the production we might be seeing a Huracán LP650-4 Super Trofeo Stradale in Rosso Mars or a Huracán LP650-4 Squadra Corse in grey metallic …

Once customers have endured the long wait until their very own Huracán LP610-4 is delivered at their local dealership we will most likely be seeing a plethora of tuners taking on the new Baby Lamborghini, first with a set of custom wheels from the likes of ADV.1, PUR, HRE and others … later on joined by a long list of aerodynamic parts suppliers like DMC and Mansory …

Naturally we will bring you additional renders of the Huracán LP610-4 showing styling elements and custom wheels over the next few weeks …

Initial figures seem to conclude we will be seeing a further evolution of the V10 engine used in the current Gallardo model, at the moment a power output of 570 bhp is available on the outgoing model and we all know a new model will offer a power increase … numbers like 600 bph and even 610 bhp have been going around lately with acceleration figures from 0 to 100 Km/h in the 3.2 seconds region thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber to keep the weight down.

Nothing official has been released in terms of styling yet, but my guess would be that the various concept models and prototypes I’ve seen over the last decade could be a preview of some kind on what Lamborghini has been working on as a Gallardo successor.

So I took styling from the latest Gallardo models and combine that with details from the Sesto Elemento and the brand new Egoista to come up with a virtual mockup of how the new Lamborghini V10 could look like in the initial LP600-4 version as an MY2014 model.

Now we all know an LP600-4 Spyder will follow the original closed version in a year or two, so I’ve created a preview on an open top V10 model for 2016 production, the next year Lamborghini intends to have the Urus ready for production so I would wait it out another year and have the ultimate V10 model ready for 2018 production … the LP650-4 Superleggera with wild looking rear wing and stunning new wheels.

Naturally all of these mockups are pure speculation … but the unveil of a Gallardo successor is just around the corner now, and the 2013 IAA in Frankfurt, Germany could be the perfect timing to finally blow the competition completely out of the water with a brand new, innovative V10 model from Sant’Agata.

The Aventador Roadster, or Spyder as both names are possible in fact, could be unveiled in Paris in a week, however the production line for the regular Aventador still faces delays today … so in fact nothing has changed over the last months, so there is no room for the production of the Aventador Roadster in Sant’Agata.

This would mean we will not be seeing the V12 topless queen of Bulls next week (most likely we’ll be getting another limited edition Gallardo model to keep the production of the V10 running until a successor takes over in 2014) but once again the unveil of the by now long awaited top of the line open model could be postponed until the March 2013 Geneva Auto Show … or Lamborghini could go for the NAIAS in Detroit in a few months … remember the Murciélago Concept was unveiled in Detroit too.

Taking a closer look at these new photos clearly shows the totally new engine cover on the Aventador Roadster, there is a section running through the middle, effectively cutting the glass sections seen on the original cover (which were a mandatory option until now by the way, on the 2013 Aventador the engine cover will be using carbon fiber that will hide the engine from view). But the engine cover also keeps a low profile until it hits the seats, where an upright window and small wing gets installed … much like we’ve seen on the limited edition Reventon Roadster.

On some of these photos it also confirms the roof will be split in the middle, in fact we’ll be seeing two carbon fiber panels that are light enough to be removed easily, and thanks to the twin setup they are small enough to be stored up front in the luggage compartment … a perfect solution if you ask me.

On a close up of the side section we still see a lot of tape covering the section behind the roof panels in front of the rear buttress section, so Lamborghini is still hiding something innovative there … I can guess, but I’m going to wait for more detailed shots. On that same photo we can detect the section behind the side windows is no longer ‘see-through’ … just like on the Murciélago Roadster this section becomes glossy black … and it isn’t color coded by the way.

Staring at these photos I see the interior is completely white (or at least a very light shade), the seats are one color and the door panels are the same light shade … and some of the matte black wrapping has stone chips that unveil this Aventador Roadster to be white too. That would mean we are probably looking at a Bianco Isis or a Bianco Canopus model with a full white ‘elegant’ interior running on glossy black wheels over orange brake calipers … I can live with that.

One thing I do find a bit strange is the fact this car doesn’t have the 2013 Dione wheels … but then again we could be looking at a test mule, so they just fitted whichever wheels were available at the time, I’m sure if and when Automobili Lamborghini SpA shows this beauty to the public it will be rolling on these optional wheels (20 inch up front and 21 inch tall at the back) and have all the MY2013 modifications too … I for one can’t wait to see it in real life without any tape covering the details.

In the photos the entire roof section was covered in cardboard to avoid revealing any of the details on this open top conversion, but in the official press release from Oakley Design all was unveiled … under the camouflage hides a carbon fiber framed glass roof panel, just where it will be stored when not in use isn’t revealed yet, but I’m sure Oakley Design has found a solution for that … my guess would be at the front in the luggage compartment, just like on the Koenigsegg Agera R.

Oakley Design confirms building a convertible Aventador, a top specs, full option Aventador LP700-4 in Nero Nemesis was supplied by Refined Marques to receive the complete Oakley Design LP760 Carbon conversion making it the fourth Oakley LP760 built … but the first one that has been converted into a Spyder model.

We all know Oakley Design can make a rear wheel drive only Aventador, calling it the LP760-2, however this matte black Aventador Spyder will remain a four wheel drive model aptly called the LP760-4S and it will not remain a one-off model either. Oakley Design and Refined Marques have confirmed this is one of two cars under development … a quick check on the Refined Marques website shows they have two listings in their for sale list … a yellow Aventador Spyder and one where the customer can still decide on the color … while this matte black Aventador Spyder together with the second car ‘on the operating table’ are bespoke customer builds … too late, these are already sold.

In a mail from Oakley Design I received some more background information … this isn’t just a ‘cut and go’ conversion, this car has been intensively tested during many night drives to make sure the stiffness remained and the removed roof section didn’t cause extensive flexing of the remaining carbon fiber tub … the chassis rig test of the monocoque has been executed three weeks ago, before the car was taken on the road for some real life testing.

More photos of the actual car will be posted later on … but keep this in mind: even if Automobili Lamborghini SpA does reveal the official Aventador LP700-4 Spyder version (we’ve red it will not be called Roadster but Spyder instead) it will have an 18 month delay before you can park it on your driveway … Oakley Design beat the Sant’Agata company to the punch … and if the listing on Refined Marques lives up to the expectation they can deliver two Aventador Spyder models on October 31. 2012 … way ahead of any Aventador Spyder directly from Italy.

Keep in mind this is the first open top Gallardo with rear wheel drive officially available, we’ve already seen the LP550-2 coupé model as the limited edition Valentino Balboni model, but those sold out rather quickly, but customers kept asking for a rear wheel drive only Gallardo, so under their pressure Automobili Lamborghini SpA made a normal production version Gallardo LP550-2 available as a true entry level model.

The special order Gallardo LP550-2 was in fact an LP560-4 model with several standard items removed from the list, and with a slightly de-tuned V10 engine, although the difference between 550 and 560 bhp can be difficult to notice for most Gallardo owners, but still several of these ‘basic’ models found customers all over the world.

Now the LP550-2 Spyder version is a real production version and not a special order model like it’s closed counterpart, this additional edition has been built to offer a more pure driving machine, this special model should appeal to a more involved driver, a person that can handle 550 horse power on the rear wheels only, although the ESP will try to keep things within limits if the driver gets a bit too courageous with the throttle.

There is a 45% locking differential mounted on the LP550-2, add the e-Gear transmission and a special programmed ESP stability control system and you get a great handling car. And there’s more, the standard setting of the car puts an emphasis on stability, but put the car in CORSA mode and you can start drifting like the Fast and the Furious in Tokyo the dynamics of a Gallardo LP550-2 are simply mind boggling with an impressively low body roll and outstanding straight driving stability at high speeds.

And high speeds are no problem in this open top Raging Bull, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder is capable of breaking the 100 Km/h barrier in a mere 4.2 seconds and a top speed of no less than 319 Km/h makes sure you can outrun just about anything you might encounter on the open road both closed or open that’s right, top speed can be reached with the top down if you hair dresser will agree with you might be a different thing.

At this moment over 11.000 Gallardo have left the gates at Sant’Agata and with this LP550-2 Spyder variant this most popular Lamborghini ever now offers a very mature line up. You can start with the LP560-4 in either Coupé or Spyder form, or special order the 550-2 Coupé, but why not go for the race derived LP570-4 Superleggera edition and it’s open top counterpart, the LP570-4 Spyder Performante and if you really want to be blown away completely you just have to go for the top of the line Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale, a race car adapted for street use, the closest street legal car you can get to the world’s fastest single-brand racing series the Blancpain Super Trofeo championship.

So will this new Gallardo model be a success my guess would be yes, people who know what they are doing behind the steering wheel could really push their limits with this rear wheel drive only model while enjoying the sun in their faces what more could you ask for ?

UPDATE: after close inspection of the photos released by Automobili Lamborghini SpA on their new Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder version I did notice some small detail changes on the car. Take a close look at the side sills underneath the doors note the matte black section starting at the front and going full height toward the rear that was also used on the Spyder Performante by the way, but here the Superleggera lower side sills were also mounted, these aren’t used for the LP550-S Spyder.

Another change can be seen on the air intakes in the front bumper, the inner face of these intakes, just ahead of the grille are also finished in matte black, that’s a new feature too. I wonder if this is an option or something that is used on all MY 2012 Gallardo LP560-4 and LP550-2 models.

Anyway, personally I think these are some nice little touches to make sure people that know about them can recognize the new car in a split second, without even seeing the model designation on the side, and I must admit I really like this blue over the tan combination, a bit less intimidating than orange or yellow perhaps, but a refreshing detour from the usual white shades used.

Safe to say these Balboni Specials sold out rather quickly, but if you really insisted you could still order a regular Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2, it just wouldn’t be called the Valentino Balboni special anymore, and no white stripe would be mounted the length of the car and on the black leather seats inside … but other than those special items the Gallardo LP550-2 remained true to the spirit launched with the Balboni version … 550 Bhp on the rear wheels only … drifting here we come.

So what was so special about a Gallardo LP550-2 that it wasn’t listed on the product list ? My guess is that Automobili Lamborghini SpA wasn’t too keen selling a rear wheel drive only car pumping out 550 Bhp to the general public, it does take some skill to keep this super car on the road after all, so most people should go for the LP560-4 with it’s four-wheel drive and only those that know what they are doing behind the wheel of such a high power exotic should consider rear wheel drive.

Sure it is a lot more fun … if you know how to handle the power, if you don’t and the road gets a bit wet you’ll be seeing the grass alongside the road more than the dark tarmac, another small detail … the LP550-2 is cheaper compared to the LP560-4, for one because of the less mechanics up front, but also because some items that are standard fit on the LP560-4 became optional on the LP550-2, so you could say the Gallardo LP550-2 is the entry level Gallardo model, the base model so to say.

And now there is talk around town about putting the LP550-2 designation also available in Spyder form … open top driving with rear wheel drive only, remember the amazing looking LP570-4 Spyder Performante was also a four-wheel drive edition (hence the ‘4’ in the name you know), so a rear wheel drive Spyder is now on the table to be unveiled very soon with first sales early 2012.

If you can read between the lines here my guess is that we will not be seeing a Gallardo successor in Geneva next year … why ? Well for one they are now offering yet another version of the Gallardo, an LP550-2 Spyder, probably to keep the Gallardo selling for at least 12 months or so, at the IAA we saw the Super Trofeo Strada, again  another version of the Gallardo … and it has been confirmed the Super Trofeo racing season will continue in 2012 … and in 2013, so I guess a totally new car that replaces the current Gallardo will only be unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show (so the Super Trofeo can race the ‘old’ model in that year and use the new one in 2014) or even as late as the 2013 IAA in Frankfurt … when the 2013 Super Trofeo season is almost over.

If that timing is true we have a gap at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show … so either we’ll be getting the Aventador Roadster one year after the closed version us shows … or we get a third model line up, something based on the Estoque perhaps ? Only time will tell … but I for one am looking forward to the 2012 Geneva Auto Show …

As usual only a small statement was made, and a picture that really doesn’t reveal anything was sent to the press. ‘Racing towards Frankfurt’ and ‘Discover a new Lamborghini super sports car at the next Frankfurt Motorshow’ are the two key phrases on the image, together with the date and time of the official press conference, probably held by Stephan Winkelmann himself, on the Lamborghini stand.

So what are we to expect in a few weeks ? Officially your guess is as good as mine, lots of people have been writing about a production version of the Sesto Elemento, either only for track use or for road use, but in any case only available in highly limited numbers and priced at anything between €1,500,000 and €2,000,000 … could be, could be we are completely wrong and Automobili Lamborghini SpA once again managed to prepare something totally different and unexpected.

Well, maybe not totally unexpected, as we all have found a list of cars they are on the verge of putting in production … like a totally new model to replace the by now aging Gallardo. Talk about a Cabrera with a V10 pumping out at least 600 Bhp has been going round for a while now, but somehow I think a successor to a current model would be unveiled in Geneva as usual, so I’m guessing we won’t be seeing a Gallardo replacement to tackle the Ferrari 458 Italia until March 2012 … but I could be wrong.

If the IAA would see a Sesto Elemento being available for sale I’m almost certain it will be all sold out by September 13. 2011 anyway, and it will not be a street legal car, at least not if it looks anything like the concept unveiled at Paris last year … there is now way a Sesto Elemento in that form would make it onto the open road, so a track special it will be.

Or not ? We’ve also received mails about a Sesto Elemento Spyder … not as radical as the Paris Concept, but still a lightweight, limited edition model using Gallardo underpinnings and powertrain, but boasting a clear carbon fiber bodywork. Our graphics people made up a nice mock up of how such a car could look, and to be honest I wouldn’t mind seeing a Sesto Elemento Spyder as a swansong to the outgoing Gallardo … a kind of uber tribute to the most successful Lamborghini ever, a perfect way to end a chapter in the expanding Lamborghini history.

But there is more on the horizon from Lamborghini, we all know the brand new Aventador will be joined by a topless version, and hints are this isn’t going to take years this time, so will we get a close look at an open top V12 flagship next month ? Could be, and again we’ve put together a nice ‘photoshop’ of an Aventador LP700-4 Roadster … and it would surely look nice, as the basis are already stunning, and you can bet your life on the fact they will be putting a better roof on it this time, as beautiful as the Murcielago Roadster was, you can’t say putting on the roof was a simple task, especially not the first time around.

And while we are dreaming … why not go all the way, our in house artist put together an Aventador R-SV, wouldn’t it be great seeing a Super Trofeo 2012 season with V12 race cars ? I sure would love to see that, but I think this dream is one step too far at this moment. I’ve talked with the people behind Reiter Engineering, who built the Murcielago R-GT and the FIA GT1 R-SV version, the latter one is still viable for another four years in case you are wondering. They actually confirmed building a GT1 World Championship version of the Aventador isn’t an option at this time, with the current regulation they would have to lower the power output too far which would make the car have a very hard time competing with the rest of the pack … on the other hand a GT1 version of the Gallardo could be a much better option.

And last but not least we have the Estoque … we didn’t forget about this four door super sedan unveiled in Paris three years ago, plans to build a high power, comfortable GT model at Lamborghini have been put on ice for a while, but in several interviews Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini SpA, has confirmed such a car would be a perfect candidate for a third model line up at Sant’Agata.

But another model could take this third range, a lot of talk has been going round about a successor to the legendary LM002 off-road super sand buggy, remember it had a V12 engine and was stupendously quick for a 4×4 model of this kind … a 2012 LM-X would be nice too no ? But then I wouldn’t call it a new super sports car to be honest, so I guess this is one option for a later date.

So what is it going to be ? To be honest we have an idea, but nothing official, so we are not making any statements about this, but you can be sure it will be one stunning Raging Bull that will be uncovered by a few stunning fashion models in Frankfurt in a few weeks, the press will go wild over it and as usual the official press kit will be an instant collector’s item, just like the ones for the Sesto Elemento and the Aventador … our designer went to work on some of these models and came up with amazing renderings like an Estoque limousine to name one … make sure to check out our image gallery for this review too …

With the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, Lamborghini is setting a new benchmark in the most fascinating automobile segment of all – the open-top super sports car. As “Performante”, the Gallardo Spyder is even lighter thanks to CFRP technology, even more agile and even more dynamic. The new Spyder Performante is an automotive high-performance athlete that combines sheer sporting excellence and extreme performance with that unique open-air feeling that only a soft-top spanning the ten-cylinder power unit can offer. Ultimately, every spin in the Spyder Performante is like a journey into the eye of the storm.

The Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder is already at the peak of its game, bearing testament to the lightweight engineering approach pursued by the Lamborghini brand. Nevertheless, the engineers in Sant’Agata Bolognese managed to reduce the weight of the new Spyder Performante by a further 65 kilograms (143 lbs). The open super sports car tips the scales with a dry weight of no more than 1.485 kilograms (3.274 lbs) – a new best for that highly exclusive market segment occupied by Lamborghini.

Just like its “brother”, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, the light weight of the Spyder Performante is due in large part to exterior and interior components made from carbon-fiber. These carbon-composite materials are perfectly suited to super sports cars because they combine reduced weight with improved technical characteristics. Performance is optimized as a result of lower weight, while CO2 emissions are reduced. Lamborghini has been leading the industry for 30 years in the application of CFRP, and now the brand is expanding that lead even further.

The V10 power unit with a displacement of 5.2 liters generates 419 kW (570 hp) in the Spyder Performante and guarantees breathtaking performance – it catapults the open-top LP 570-4 from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a mere 3.9 seconds and keeps on going to a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph). The engine with “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” gasoline direct injection boasts extremely impressive pulling power and a virtually endless rev range that delivers a constant supply of spine-tingling acoustics.

The Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante is an uncompromising driving machine. Its chassis, with its mighty brakes, is a work of great precision, while the new 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tires are extremely lightweight. The LP 570-4 Performante brings a new meaning to the term “Spyder”.

Design and aerodynamics
The beauty of power

The elegance of every Lamborghini rests on its extreme power and precise function. The design of the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, too, concentrates on the sheer essence of the design language – the bodyshell is pure sculpture and free of superfluous decoration. Its profile follows the contours of a dynamic wedge measuring 4.39 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, but only 1.18 meters high. Open or closed, the top of the Spyder Performante can handle the very highest speeds.

From the very first glance, the Spyder Performante is clearly recognizable as the open-top counterpart to the highly acclaimed and successful Gallardo Superleggera. The exterior modifications are all directed at increasing the aerodynamic effect in comparison to the Gallardo Spyder. Working closely with wind tunnel experts, designers from Lamborghini’s Centro Stile remodeled the front bumper – three-dimensional, deeply recessed elements form trapezoidal frames for the large air intakes. Together with the V-shaped, sharply defined nose and the LED daytime running lights, the black elements give the front end a razor-sharp look. The design also optimizes the supply of cooling air and improves the downforce on the front axle.

Modifications to the fully-covered underbody, new sill elements and a redesigned diffuser incorporating four large tailpipes also help to achieve better aerodynamic results. A large optional rear spoiler is also available for the Spyder Performante.

The bodyshell
Intelligent lightweight engineering with Carbon Fiber

Its bodyshell is made from aluminum, with cast node elements and extruded profile forming an extremely stiff framework into which the aluminum panels are integrated. The spaceframe structure is extremely impact-resistant and forms the basis for the super sports car’s precise handling.

Against this background, the task of reducing weight by a further 65 kilograms (143 lbs) compared to the Gallardo Spyder presented a huge challenge to the engineers. The Lamborghini experts handled the task as they usually do – with hi-tech competence and aesthetic flair. With its minimal weight and extremely high stiffness, carbon-fiber is the ideal material for a super sports car. The large panel covering the soft-top, engine and transmission is a complex and extremely high-quality carbon fiber component. Engineers also selected carbon-fiber for the rear spoiler, sills, diffuser, parts of the underbody paneling and the fine exterior mirror casings.

Carbon-fiber materials in the interior

Altogether, carbon-fiber components make up around 40% of the 65 kilograms saved. In the interior, too, engineers aimed to reduce weight as much as possible. The center tunnel cover, the door panels and the surround of the e-gear automated manual transmission lever are made from carbonfiber. The high-end material is also used for the sports seats’ shells, where they make a significant contribution to overall weight reduction.

Just like the rest of the cockpit, the sports seats are clad in lightweight Alcantara instead of leather. However, weight reduction at Lamborghini certainly does not mean sacrifice – the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante still comes with air conditioning and electric windows as standard.

The extent to which Lamborghini values the very highest level of meticulous craftsmanship is immediately evident in the interior of the Spyder Performante. All parts are perfectly designed and assembled down to the very last detail; high-quality materials indulge the senses. The interior retains a sporty black finish in Alcantara. As contrasting colors for seat stitching, customers can choose from green, yellow, orange and two shades of gray. They match exterior paint finishes in Giallo Midas, Arancio Borealis, Grigio Telesto, Nero Noctis and Bianco Monocerus.

The engine
3.9 seconds from zero to 100 km/h

In the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, LP stands for “Longitudinale Posteriore” and refers to the orientation of the V10 engine – which is mounted longitudinally behind the driver, just like every Lamborghini engine. The number 570 refers to the maximum power output in hp, which equates to 419 kW and is available at 8,000 rpm. Equally impressive is the pulling power – the torque curve peaks at 540 Nm (398,3 ft lbs) at 6,500 rpm. The increase of 7 kW (10 hp) is the result of the new dedicated engine management strategy.

The V10 has a displacement of 5,204 cm3 and achieves a specific output of 80.5 kW (109.6 hp) per liter. Special features on this long-stroke engine with an aluminum crankcase include dry sump lubrication and a cylinder angle of 90 degrees. Both solutions lower the center of gravity, thus improving handling dynamics. To ensure ideal combustion chamber fill, the engine has an adjustable intake manifold and continuous control of the chain-driven camshafts.

The crankshaft is conceived as a dual-plane crank – the connecting rods of opposing pistons share one bearing. This configuration delivers alternating ignition intervals of 54 and 90 degrees; a unique sequence that is the reason for the compelling, racing car-like sound of the V10. As the revs rise, resounding bass notes are overlaid with razor sharp harmonics.

The powerful V10, combined with the model’s weight reduction, gives the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante breathtaking performance. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes just 3.9 seconds. Drive continues relentlessly to a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph).

Power transmission
Traction without compromise

The Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante comes with the e-gear transmission operated via steering wheel paddles, as standard. The automated system with electronic management shifts through its six gears extremely smoothly and far more quickly than could be achieved by human reflexes.

The e-gear control unit has three operating modes, two of which are also available in automatic. The “Thrust mode” delivers maximum off-the-line performance and is programmed to manage starting revs of around 5,000 rpm with minimal wheel slip.

Every single kilometer in the Gallardo Spyder Performante is utterly thrilling – not least because of the relentless traction in practically every situation. This is largely attributable to the four driven wheels, as indicated by the number 4 in the model name.

The permanent all-wheel drive incorporates a central viscous coupling and a 45 percent limited slip differential on the rear axle. In normal circumstances, the power delivered by the V10 is channeled with a ratio of 30:70 to the front and rear axles. The weight distribution of the superlight Gallardo is 43/57 percent front/rear.

In 1993, the Diablo VT was the first Italian super sports car with an all-wheel drive set-up, and Lamborghini has been steadily consolidating its leadership ever since. In fact, thanks to the car’s superior traction, Lamborghini drivers can accelerate earlier out of a bend than drivers of rear-wheel drive cars.

The running gear
Even firmer, even more precise

The Gallardo Spyder Performante is a highly-concentrated driving machine – it thrills with breathtaking cornering speeds and fast, immediate reflexes. Its handling is always precise, stable and predictable.

The running gear layout is derived directly from motorsport. The suspension features aluminum double wishbones, while the precise rack-and-pinion steering keeps the driver closely connected with the road. Its specific set-up enables the running gear to reach its full dynamic potential.

Another special feature of the Gallardo Spyder Performante is the incredibly light 19-inch wheels – identical to those on the Gallardo Superleggera – which save 13 kilograms (28.6 lb). The wheel bearings and bolts are made from titanium and are also incredibly light and stiff. The tires are 235/35 at the front and 295/30 at the rear and come from the Pirelli P Zero Corsa series. Developed specifically for the new top model in the Gallardo range, they are closely related to pure race rubber.

Behind the huge wheels are brakes that deliver uncompromising stopping power and are managed by the standard-fit ESP stability control system. The front wheels are served by aluminum eight-piston calipers, with four-piston units at the rear. The ventilated brake discs have diameters of 365 and 356 millimeters (ø 14.37 x 1.34 in and 14.02 x 1.26 in) respectively. As an optional extra, Lamborghini can fit extremely fade-resistant and lightweight discs made from carbon-fiber ceramic with six-piston calipers up front. The front ceramic discs have a diameter of 380 millimeters (15 x 1.5 in).

Equipment
Hi-tech for road and track

Alongside its specialized carbon-fiber lightweight components, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante is delivered ex-works with an array of other high-end features. Highlights include the e-gear transmission – the manual gearbox is available at no additional cost – the dedicated chassis set-up, the Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tires and the sports seats. Alcantara upholstery and a hand-stitched steering wheel clad in suede set accents in the interior.

New development center for carbon-fiber technology

With this year’s presentation of the best-in-class Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera at the Geneva Auto Salon and the unveiling of the ultra-light Sesto Elemento at the Paris Motor Show, Lamborghini has again displayed its clear leadership in the field of carbon fiber technology. Here, Lamborghini is building on a thirty-year history – in 1983, Lamborghini used carbon fiber reinforced plastics to build the famous Countach. The engine cover panel of the Gallardo Spyder and Spyder Performante is one of the largest CFRP components with class A surface quality in the automotive world. As a 100 percent subsidiary of AUDI AG, the Italian super sports car manufacturer further benefits from the lightweight construction competence of its parent company.

The company is now working steadily to expand its worldwide leading position. In the new Advanced Composites Research Center (ACRC) at company headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is working on innovative construction and production methods for carbon-fiber elements in automobile design.

The Advanced Composite Research Center in Sant’Agata Bolognese secures leadership in the research into innovative materials and production methods for carbon-fiber reinforced plastics with low production volumes. More than 30 experts work here on the development of vehicle components of all types and sizes. The specialists build prototypes and their associated tools, and devise optimum production methods. With sophisticated systems developed largely in-house, engineers can precisely and reliably simulate the technical characteristics and collision behavior of the components. Thanks to the extensively patented “RTM Lambo” process, Lamborghini is able to manufacture CFRP parts to the highest quality, precision and surface finish under low pressure and at relatively low temperatures. Higher process speeds, lower costs and simple tooling are further benefits.

The Lamborghini Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory (ACSL) at the University of Washington tests the behavior of a range of materials and technologies in line with the principles adopted by the aviation industry. Scientists in Seattle are working closely with the Technical Development Department at Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Lamborghini once again demonstrated its outstanding expertise in carbon-fiber lightweight engineering with the Sesto Elemento concept car – the extent of the application of innovative materials is unparalleled. The overall weight of the Sesto Elemento – despite its V10 power plant and all-wheel drive – was limited to just 999 kilograms. Every new Lamborghini will benefit from the advanced technologies in the Sesto Elemento.

The myth lives on –
The open-top super sports cars from Lamborghini

The history of open-top Lamborghinis began with small volumes. In 1965, the company built just two of the 350 GTS, the open-top version of the first model to be produced in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Even more tragic from today’s perspective is that only one copy of the exquisite P400 Miura Roadster from 1968 was ever built. Lamborghini unveiled its first series production open-top in 1976 with the Silhouette – its V8 mid-engine with 250 hp offered refined performance, while a removable roof delivered that topless feeling. Its successor was the Jalpa Speedster, which was launched in 1986. The V8 power unit with a 90-degree cylinder bank angle was once again mounted behind the seats, albeit enlarged to 3.5 liters – which, with the same output, guaranteed much better torque.

In 1992 it was an open-top Lamborghini that was anointed the hero of the Geneva Motor Show – low-set with a sharply angled windscreen and an amazingly powerful looking rear end, the Diablo Roadster cut an impressive figure on the Lamborghini stand. The series production version came in 1995 – with its 5.7 liter twelve-cylinder and all-wheel drive, it was a true super car. Its output of 492 hp ensured it a top speed of 323 km/h with the roof open or closed. The rear-wheel drive Diablo SV Roadster followed in 1998. Finally, the Murciélago Roadster made its appearance in 2005 as a super-modern interpretation of the open-top twelve-cylinder.

The true hero among the open-top Lamborghinis, however, is by far and away the Gallardo Spyder – at least, when it comes to the number produced. The first generation appeared in 2006, with a ten-cylinder engine, 520 hp and an electro-hydraulic roof engineered for high-speed driving. The second generation followed in 2008 – the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder. Its designed had been sharpened even further, its output increased to 560 hp and many detail improvement made throughout, demonstrating the dedication that Lamborghini applies to perfecting its super sports cars.

You might ask yourself why they didn’t just call this car the Spyder Superleggera. I don’t know to be honest, and actually ‘Performante’ doesn’t sound too bad now does it, perhaps they kept the Superleggera name for the closed coupé version.

The Performante has received the more powerfull 570 Bhp V10 from the Superleggera and it also shed some extra weight compared to the LP560-4 Spyder, so performance is surely up, even if the original 560 Bhp Spyder didn’t have much to complain about in that area anyway.

Inside we are greeted with lots of Alcantara and Carbon Fiber, the exterior rear view mirrors are made of lightweight carbon fiber and the large rear wing seen on the Superleggera is now also available as an option on the Spyder Performante.

A total of 65 Kgs has been lost on the Spyder Performante, add this to the 570 Bhp (419 Kw) and you are in for a real treat when taking this Spyder for a spin, acceleration to 100 Km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds only to top out at a maximum speed of 324 Km/h … with your hair in the wind or should we call this ‘gale force’ from now on?

Encounter this Performante on the open road and you immediately recognize the fact this isn’t a regular Gallardo, a deep front spoiler is present, special LED daylight driving lights and black sections that stand out nicely on the limited number of color available on this car (yellow, orange, gray, black and naturally white) too bad the bright green isn’t available, but I’m sure you’ll be able to convince the nice people at the ‘Ad Personam’ department to have your Spyder Performante finished just the way you like it if your bank manager will also like this option is up to you I guess.

Weight reduction at Lamborghini doesn’t mean you end up with a Spartan race car for road use, nope, you still get air conditioning and electric windows behind the steering wheel while seated in some of the most beautiful sports seats I’ve ever seen.

On the Spyder Performante the by now well known e-Gear transmission is standard as it is able to shift through the six gears much quicker than any human on the planet there is also a ‘thrust mode’ to impress people when you drive away, it allows you to apply maximum revs (about 5000 rpm) and start with minimal wheel spin how many times you can perform this ‘mini’ burn out before you have to replace the gearbox isn’t listed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t to be used on every occasion.

Those amazing looking wheels from the Superleggera make there appearance on the Performante too, note that these take away 13 Kgs each from the overall weight of the Gallardo, surely worth while, and they look nice too what more could you wish for ?

It is safe to say that Lamborghini is taking the carbon fiber route for it’s new models, we’ve seen the stunning Sesto Elemento in Paris, a sneak peak at the future (limited production is still being talked about apparently) and with their in-house development center they can experiment all they want, I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of carbon fiber used on the upcoming V12 flagship replacement early next year.

The Gallardo Spyder is not just an open-top version of the Coupé, but is a completely new model. It has an attractive new design and a unique system for opening and closing the fabric roof that utilizes the engine compartment to store the folded roof.

The Lamborghini Centro Stile and engineers from the Research and Development team have worked in close partnership to develop this new design and to bring these clean and sharp lines on the road.

Design

The original design vision for the Gallardo was created in the year 2000 and this vision continues with the ‘open’ version.

The dimensions of the Gallardo, combined with its competitive performance targets, ensure the car has an athletic compactness. The long wheelbase complemented by short overhangs dynamise its appearance. The Gallardo Spyder features typical and unique mono-volume proportions, which integrate the Lamborghini design attributes of purism, athleticism and sharpness.

The cab-forward cockpit is integrated in the body by a strongly-slanted front screen and tensed pillars. The complex surfacing is intersected by crisp graphics and its detailing, which is orientated towards optimum cooling, evokes a strong aeronautical influence in its proportions and formal language.

Roof

The roof raising/lowering system of the Gallardo Spyder is based on an electronic control system with electrohydraulic actuators and comprises the following elements:
– hood made from black fabric
– electronic control system, integrated in the car’s CAN-BUS network, that controls the movement of the roof
– electric pump
– engine bonnet (that also functions as a hood cover) made from carbon fiber
– six hydraulic cylinders (four to operate the hood and two to operate the bonnet)
– two electric actuators (one to lock the catch at the front of the roof and one to release the bonnet catch)
– electric motor to raise and lower the rear window

The roof raising/lowering mechanism is extremely simple to operate by way of two push-buttons on the center of the dashboard. And the whole operation takes just over 20 seconds.

The rear screen moves automatically while the roof is being opened or closed. This automatically-controlled movement always returns the screen to the raised position. The driver can also choose to have the screen in the lowered position (also with the roof raised) by pressing the appropriate button on the dashboard.

There is also a “service function” that positions the roof so as to allow access to the engine.

Great care has been taken over the structural design of the new Gallardo Spyder, which of course complies fully with all the relevant safety standards.

The space frame has been reinforced in the area of the sills and the A pillars have been strengthened with the adoption of an automatic Roll Over protection system (comprising two ‘pop-ups’) integrated with the air bag system.

All these solutions, which place Lamborghini at the very forefront of open top car design, were driven by the need to present to the public a true spyder characterized by a pure design.

Engine and performance

The new Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder features a number of important modifications to the original engine and transmission from the Coupé.

The 10-cylinder 4961 cc propulsion unit now develops 520 hp (382 kW) at 8,000 rpm.

The six-speed gearbox now has lower ratios (1st gear is 27% lower, 2nd gear is 13%, 3rd / 4th / 5th gears are all 6% lower, while 6th gear is 3.5% lower), which create a more dynamic performance.

The steering is also more direct and precise and the suspension has been recalibrated.

Like the other models in the range, the Gallardo Spyder also benefits from aluminum bodywork and features permanent four-wheel drive.

And finally, its performance figures: the Gallardo Spyder – which complies with EURO 4 homologation standards – reaches a top speed of 314 km/h with the roof up and 307 km/h with the roof down, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.

Equipment

Amongst its standard equipment the following items are particularly worthy of mention:

– power steering fluid cooler (for sports use)
– automatic door locking at speeds of over 15 km/h
– Lamborghini Multimedia System as standard (not available for Japan)

There are also new body colors available. In addition to those current range of Gallardo colors, the new Gallardo Spyder is also available in the two special colors: Celeste Phoebe (light blue) and Verde Picus (green). There are also new colors for the leather interiors: Marrone Janus (brown) as the main color, Bianco Polar (white) as a contrast color, and carpets in Marrone Janus (brown), Rosso Centaurus (red) or Arancio Leonis (orange).

There is also a range of optional equipment that makes the Gallardo Spyder even more exclusive, including:

– video camera on the rear spoiler (available also on the Coupé version)
– new color/perforated leather combinations for the dashboard, seats and door trim
– contrast color stitching

In its new generation, the Gallardo Spyder represents more than ever before automotive passion in its purest form. As in the Coupé, its enormous power is delivered by the new 5.2 liter V10 with an output of 560 horsepower (412 kW) at 8,000 rpm. The increase in 40 horsepower (29 kW) over its predecessor, as well as the 44 pound (20 kilogram) reduction in vehicle weight, improves the power-to-weight ratio to 6.10 pounds (2.77 kg) per horsepower, thus improving performance even further.

The LP 560-4 Spyder takes only 4.0 seconds to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h), reaching 124 mph (0 to 200 km/h) in only 13.1 seconds and going on to a top speed of 201 mph (324 km/h). The new driveline, featuring the “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” direct fuel injection system also makes for impressive efficiency. Despite the considerable increase in performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by a staggering 18 percent.

Engineers at the Ufficio Tecnico Lamborghini, Sant’Agata-based Technical Department, have also improved traction, handling and stability at high speeds. The redesigned four-wheel drive transmission, the new suspension, the improved stiffness of the Spyder bodyshell and the optimized aerodynamics all contribute to the overall improvements in the vehicle, as do the reduced weight and decreased friction throughout the components.

Thus the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder presents itself as a razor-sharp super sports car with the precision reactions of a high-performance athlete. The car is also surprisingly suited to long-distance driving and, despite its extreme performance capabilities, is easy to control while maintaining utmost stability. Above all, the impressive Lamborghini technology takes on a new, intense edge in the Spyder, with the glorious feel of the open air rushing by.

The Style

Powerful elegance

Every Lamborghini is a high-performance athlete. Its sensuality is based on precision, performance and on spontaneous action. A Lamborghini’s elegance is that of sheer, pure power. This DNA of the Lamborghini brand is taken to the next level with every new car by the Centro Stile. Thus the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder displays the precise lines and clean surfaces of a minimalist design ethos that resists ornamentation or embellishment of any kind. Even more than the Coupé, the Spyder places emphasis on the powerful basic wedge form, complemented by the tightly cut soft top.

Each evolution of the Lamborghini form is strictly dictated by the demands of function. The redesigned front end lends the LP 560-4 a firm, low stance that also contributes to its aerodynamic efficiency. In line with the increased engine output, the enlarged and clearly accentuated air intakes increase the air flow critical to such a high-performance automobile. The spoiler, positioned low between the air intakes, improves aerodynamic stability at high speeds.

Characteristic LED daytime running light

The new headlights have characteristic daytime running lights integrated beneath the bi-xenon lamps. 15 LEDs are arranged in a Y form, with the same pattern repeating in the rear tail-lights. The rear and brake lights were inspired by the Miura concept, the Murciélago LP 640 and the Reventón. The Y-shaped elements are now signature features of contemporary Lamborghini models, appearing most recently in the Estoque concept car, the innovative super sports sedan from Sant’Agata.

The completely redesigned rear gives new meaning to the term “powerful elegance”. The rear lights, air cooling vents, bumper and diffuser are precisely arranged to add tremendous visual breadth to the LP 560-4 Spyder, while sustaining its firm bond with the road surface. In addition, the streamlined covers left and right of the bonnet accentuate the powerful shoulders and the taut lines of the new Gallardo.

Significantly improved aerodynamics

The new exhaust system is beautifully finished by four chrome-plated tail pipes. The rear diffuser has been redesigned to deliver more downforce and, together with the smooth underbody, it contributes to the vehicle’s excellent directional stability, even at very high speeds. Overall, aerodynamic efficiency in terms of downforce has been improved significantly in comparison with its predecessor – the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder tackles fast curves with even greater refinement.

The purist approach to design is perfectly complemented by the immaculate attention to detail demonstrated by the designers at Sant’Agata Bolognese. The fuel and motor oil fill caps, intricately-crafted from aluminum bear testimony to this, as does the rear view camera, which has been integrated into a small fin in the automatically-deploying rear spoiler, as well as the finely-detailed grilles in the exhaust tail pipes.

Soft top perfectly suited to everyday use

The flow of the lines, regardless of whether the top is up or down, clearly demonstrates that the Spyder is a fully self-contained model within the Gallardo range. Compared with the Coupé, the open top version comes across as just a little more radical; its shoulders have been raised slightly in order to make room for the soft top.

The fully-lined fabric top – available in black, blue, grey and beige – is operated via two switches located on the center console. They set in motion a choreography that is over in just 20 seconds. One hydraulic pump, six hydraulic cylinders, one electric motor and two electric actuators work together to perform this technical ballet.

Rear windscreen functions as wind deflector

When the soft top opens, the rear windscreen disengages first, sliding downwards to avoid obstructing the remainder of the process. Four cylinders slightly raise the rear-hinged engine cover, before the hood folds gracefully into a stowage compartment located in front of the engine bay. Finally, the large engine cover made from a lightweight carbon fiber composite closes once more and the rear windscreen returns to its original position to function as a wind deflector. A switch mounted on the dashboard will stow the rear windscreen if preferred – even when the top is closed.

Whether open or closed, the Gallardo Spyder’s soft top is designed for unrestricted high speeds. In order to ensure maximum safety, Lamborghini engineers have integrated two spring-loaded rollover bars behind the seats. Controlled by a sensor, they deploy in only 250 milliseconds should a potential roll-over situation arise. The seat belt tensioners spring into action at the same time.

The bodyshell

Intelligent lightweight design

Weight is undesirable in a sports car and lightweight design is good for dynamics. Aluminum is much lighter than steel – which is why the bodyshell of the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder has an aluminum structure that is more lightweight, yet stiffer. With its lighter engine, the two-seater boasts a dry weight of only 3417.2 Ibs (1,550 kg) – 44 pounds (20 kg) less than its predecessor.

The design of the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder utilizes the ‘spaceframe construction method.’ Cast aluminum nodes and extruded profiles form its frame, with integrated friction-locked and form-fitted aluminum panels creating the bodyshell. The bodyshell is not only extremely light, but also displays exceptional torsional stiffness and safety characteristics, thus forming the basis for the extraordinary handling characteristics of the LP 560-4. The aerodynamic underbody panel is also integrated into the overall design for structural stiffness. The Spyder incorporates specially-developed additional stiffness elements within the spaceframe to compensate for the absence of a fixed roof.

Integrated pedestrian protection system

The bodyshell also incorporates the highest levels of passive safety. The Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder even fulfils European directives for pedestrian protection that are not yet mandatory. Furthermore, the geometry of the entire front end of the car has been optimized, with a special combination of materials behind the front bumper that serve to absorb impact forces.

The Interior

Luxurious individuality

Despite its low exterior height, the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder welcomes its passengers with a spacious interior – even when the top is closed. The sports seats are upholstered in either fine leather or Alcantara® and provide firm hold and support. The seats are mounted low, as is typical for sports cars, and behind them is additional luggage space to complement the 110 liter capacity luggage compartment at the front of the vehicle.

The wide middle console is one of the elements that characterize the impression of sporty dynamism in the interior. It accommodates the standard Lamborghini audio and multimedia system, as well as the dual-zone climate control. Between these two units is a newly designed module housing classically elegant toggle switches. Seven instrument dials boasting new graphics provide the driver with essential engine data, while a multi-functional display between the speedometer and rev counter furnishes him with important information from the on-board computer.

Highest quality workmanship

The Miura and the other models of the 60s were characterized by their excellent quality of workmanship, which was far beyond the general standards of the day. Lamborghini has built extensively on this tradition, and to this day delivers automobiles of the highest standards.

The Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder indulges with materials of the highest quality in both look and feel. Leather interior choices include a range of colors and stitching in matching or contrasting tones. As an optional extra, Lamborghini can deliver the Gallardo with an expanded range of leather or Alcantara® equipment, as well as carbon packages, where elements like the surround for the air-conditioning control panel, the handbrake and the gear-stick console are finished in carbon fiber composite. The Engine

Extreme power in every situation

The engine of the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder is a completely new development. All that remains is the number of cylinders, – that magical ten – which provides a perfect synthesis of high-revs, pulling power, athletic agility, compact dimensions and low weight that is unique within this performance class.

The engine has a displacement of 5.2 liters (5204 cm3 ), generating an extreme 560 horsepower (412 kW) at 8,000 rpm – giving class-topping output per liter of 107.6 horsepower. The engine delivers a maximum torque of 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) at 6,500 rpm. The ample torque curve guarantees outstanding thrust at all engine speeds. With acceleration of 4.0 seconds from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) and a top speed of 201 mph (324 km/h), the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder shoots into the orbit of the most extreme high-performance sports cars and is only one km/h less swift than the LP 560-4 Coupé.

Even more astounding is the fact that engineers at Sant’Agata succeeded in lowering the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of the super sports car by 18 percent, despite a considerable improvement in performance. Relative to engine power and performance, the average fuel consumption of the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder e.gear is astonishingly low at only 16 mpg combined (20 hwy/13 city) (14 liters per 100 kilometers).

Perfect weight distribution, optimal dynamics

The engine in this new model is also located longitudinally behind the driver – hence the model denomination “Longitudinale Posteriore.” The mid-engine concept is peerless in sports car design, creating the basis for the perfect weight distribution of the LP 560-4 Spyder of 43 percent on the front axle and 57 percent on the rear. In combination with the permanent all-wheel drive transmission, it guarantees the Gallardo’s superior handling stability in all situations.

Low mass for impressive high-revving

The cylinder bore surfaces of the new Lamborghini ten-cylinder are made of a hypereutectic aluminum alloy. The hard silicon crystals of the bore surfaces are chemically released following the honing process. The connecting rods are made from forged steel and the pistons from aluminum alloy. The systematic reduction of mass and internal friction contributes to the engine’s impressive high-revving characteristics.

The engine is unusually wide for a V10, with a cylinder angle of 90 degrees. The advantage of this layout is the lower center of gravity. The dry sump lubrication serves the same purpose, as well as guaranteeing a reliable supply of oil even during extreme lateral acceleration on the race track.

Direct fuel injection makes for efficient combustion

The new V10 uses the direct fuel-injection system “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” as an innovative way to optimize performance in all conditions, while achieving moderate fuel consumption. The fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber from a common-rail system at pressures of up to 100 bar via laterally-position injectors. This ensures the perfect “tumble” of the homogeneous fuel/air mixture and forms the basis of highly efficient combustion.

Direct injection boosts the extremely efficient full-load performance of the V10, reduces its knock sensitivity, provides an internal cooling effect and thus facilitates a very high compression ratio of 12.5:1. The cylinder heads have been optimized to deliver a rapid charge cycle, while the variable valve control system on all four camshafts improves charge efficiency across the entire engine speed range.

Transmission

All-wheel drive refinement

Such extreme power must be delivered to the road safely. The driver of a Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder can thus rely on the viscous traction permanent all-wheel drive system – the number 4 in the model name serves as a reminder of this. Lamborghini introduced this system as early as 1993, with the Diablo VT – and for good reason. Four driven wheels achieve more grip than two and permit earlier acceleration when exiting a curve.

Located in the driveline is a central viscous coupling, which requires no electronic control. In this Lamborghini-specific configuration, driving power is distributed between front and rear at a standard ratio of 30:70, adapting to variations in road conditions within a matter of milliseconds. A mechanical differential on the rear axle providing up to 45% limited slip, and an electronic differential lock at the front complete the all-wheel drive system.

Superior traction and handling

It is not only maximum traction that benefits from permanent all-wheel drive, but also the car’s clearly superior handling. Ultimately, each wheel can only transfer a certain amount of power to the road. As the drive power is distributed to all four wheels via the viscous traction system, there is thus greater potential for directional control. These reserves in every situation are what distinguish a perfectly made sports car.

With all of that engine thrust, changing gears in the Gallardo LP 560-4 is also one of the most exciting aspects of this vehicle. It remains a matter of personal preference whether the driver uses the short gear stick to work manually through the precision motion of the six-speed gearbox, or whether he chooses to let his fingertips control the e.gear’s paddle-shift system located behind the steering wheel – the option preferred by the majority of Lamborghini customers.

Shift times reduced by 40 percent

The automated e.gear transmission has been completely redesigned and improved in all aspects. The complete system is not only considerably lighter, but the time required to change gear in corsa mode has also been reduced by 40 per cent. The driver can change gear manually using the shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel – or he can leave it entirely up to the automatic mode, which ensures extremely refined dynamics.

If the driver changes gear manually using the steering wheel paddles, he can choose from three different drive programs. Alongside the standard program, the Gallardo also offers the sport mode with even shorter shift times, while the corsa program delivers optimum engine acceleration.

ESP is active in all drive programs, engaging later in the sport and corsa modes and reducing the impact of the traction control. The corsa mode also permits greater drift and enables the complete dynamic spectrum of the LP 560-4 Spyder to be appreciated on the race track – while still leaving plenty of room for safety. The Lamborghini thrust mode facilitates maximum acceleration from a standstill. The throttle valve angle and clutch travel have been optimized specifically for this purpose.

The chassis

Hi-tech components with Lamborghini expertise

The predecessor to the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder was already one of the world’s best super sports cars in terms of handling, precision and driving stability. However, the latest model delivers an even more intense driving experience across the board. The new chassis improves the car’s handling, its driving comfort and its directional stability at high speeds.

The chassis of the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder is uncompromisingly hi-tech. Its technical design comes directly from motorsport. The aluminum double wishbones with re-designed kinematics encircle the wheels, while the springs and shock absorbers have been recalibrated for stiffness and optimum grip. The rear axle now has an additional track rod, bringing an extra element of control to the super sports car.

One all-new development is the rubber-metal bearings. These truly hi-tech components contribute to the unique Lamborghini dynamics with intelligent design and specific material combinations. The precise set-up of the springs and dampers has been adjusted to accommodate the slightly higher weight of the Spyder to give it exactly the same characteristics as the Gallardo Coupé.

Intense road holding

The rack and pinion steering works with relatively little power assistance – giving the driver a direct and close connection with the road, and providing intense experience of the power and forces at play. The steering has its own cooling system for the power steering fluid.

Precise, breathtakingly fast, yet stable and free from surprises – the Gallardo’s dynamics deliver a sensuous experience. At the limit, the tires (235/35 ZR 19 front and 295/30 ZR 19 rear) appear to bond with the road surface. The wheels are clad in Pirelli P-Zero series tires, specially developed for Lamborghini. They boast particularly low rolling resistance and thus contribute to reduced fuel consumption without any compromise in performance. At speeds of more than 75 mph (over 120 km/h), an automatically-deploying rear spoiler increases the down force on the rear axle. It works together with the specially formed underbody, which directs the airflow under the car.

Optional carbon fiber ceramic brake system

The new brake system comes with brutal stopping power. At the front, eight-cylinder Brembo calipers grip 14.37 in (365 mm) diameter discs, while four-cylinder calipers and 14 in (356 mm) discs take up the rear. The new disc ventilation also improves brake fade under extreme load conditions.

Highly stable carbon fiber ceramic discs are available as an option. At the front the CCB (Carbon Ceramic Brake) discs measure 15 in (380 mm) diameter and at the rear 14 in (356 mm). They deliver improved performance with reduced weight. The CCB system significantly reduces weight, which improves dynamics and comfort.

Equipment and trim

Top-class individuality

Lamborghini has equipped the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder with an exceptionally sporty standard equipment package that includes the automatic top; driver, passenger and side air-bags; dual-zone climate control with sun regulator; stereo system with USB interface; sports seats with electrically adjustable back rests; leather upholstery and bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The new series production “Apollo” wheels feature a double-spoke design.

A range of optional extras brings additional comfort and convenience – including a navigation system, a hands-free Bluetooth® mobile phone connection, anti-theft device and a rear view camera. A further option is a lifting system for the front axle – which raises the body at the touch of a button to ease negotiation of obstacles. New options include black painted “Cordelia” wheels.

The possibilities available in the “Ad Personam” individualization program are virtually inexhaustible. Behind this program stands the philosophy that a super sports car, as a significant expression of the personality of its owner, should fit perfectly to his desires and expectations. This is particularly true for a car as highly emotional as the Spyder. As a consequence, the finest exclusivity is the trademark of Lamborghini’s individualization program. “Think the Impossible” is its motto.

“Ad Personam” offers a host of options to bring highly individual style to both the interior and exterior of a Lamborghini. One new highlight in the program is three matte-luster color options – Nero Nemesis (matte black), Bianco Canopus (matte white), Marrone Apus (matte brown). These colors, applied using a specialist and highly sophisticated process, bring particular emphasis to the purist precision of Lamborghini design.

You’ll have to admit the Gallardo Spyder already was a very nice looking car, now based on the LP560-4 bodywork and chassis, the Spyder has matured into an even better driving car with stunning looks. We encounter the ‘Reventón’ styled front spoiler with the small section in between the large air intakes that gives the Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder a very aggressive stance, no matter from which angle you look at it.

At the rear you are greeted by a quartet of shining exhaust pipes, that give out the thundering sound of the improved V10 engine, which on this new Spyder evolution pumps out a massive 560 hp at 8000 rpm, just like the Coupé version. Do note that the Spyder was made a little higher than the closed version, so the suspension had to be modified slightly, but all those that have driven the LP560-4 already agree that it corners perfectly and I have no doubt the Spyder version will be equally impressive on the open road.

Also note that the LP560-4 version of the Spyder is a full 44 pound (20 Kgs) lighter than its predecessor, add to this the power increase of 40 hp and you will understand this new ‘baby’ Lamborghini can hardly be called a baby anymore, this is a full grown exotic super car that can be enjoyed with the sun in your eyes.

The LP560-S Spyder receives the same LED running lights as the closed Coupé model, both the headlights and the taillights feature these high tech LED in the by now typical Y-shape, just like we’ve seen on the Reventón, the Murciélago and recently the magnificent Estoque super sport sedan, a concept car that was shown on the 2008 Paris Motor Show and that could see production as early as 2011 probably with an evolution of the V10 engine now mounted in the Gallardo LP560-4 series.

The Lamborghini Gallardo was one of a few convertibles on the market that looked almost equally as nice with the soft top down or up, and the LP560-4 edition remains true to this feature. A fully lined fabric top available in no less than four colors accentuates the attention to detail on this Raging Bull, the top opens at the touch of a button (actually two switches to be exact) and only takes 20 seconds to complete.

For the interior the future owner can select either smooth leather of Alcantara® in just about any color imaginable, and with the option of a Carbon Fiber package for the dashboard and central console he (or she) can personalized their brand new Bull even further. Can’t find what you are looking for in the regular brochure ? No problem, the “Ad Personam” individualization program will take your new Lamborghini to unseen heights, they can mix just about any color you could specify, both for the bodywork and for the interior, however Ad Personam also offers three stunning matte shades: Black, White and Brown.

Once you’ve decided on the color combination of your brand new Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder you can add the CCB to the option list, these are the Carbon Ceramic brake system that is now available, massive 15 inch discs at the front and large 14 inch discs at the rear, the CCB system lower the weight of your Gallardo even further and improves dynamics and comfort.

The large disc brakes are hiding behind really good looking, double spoke “Apollo” wheels that are shod with massive Pirelli P-Zero tires that have been specifically developed for the Lamborghini (235/35 ZR 19 front and 295/30 ZR 19 rear), however the black painted “Cordelia” wheels are available as an option.

The only thing missing from the option list for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder in my opinion is a glass engine cover that would really make a difference I think, driving one of the most beautiful cars available today and give onlookers a peak of that powerful V10 engine. However I doubt this will keep those fortunate enough to be able to afford it from buying the LP560-4 Spyder, it is a sensual looking super car that will probably outsell its predecessor quickly in the years to come well done Lamborghini!

Due to the positive response Automobili Lamborghini started working on a Jalpa with a completely retractable roof in 1987, called the Jalpa Spyder, a prototype was created using a silver metallic over blue leather Jalpa that was still owned by factory at that time, a rear treatment similar to the one found on the Bertone Athon was used on this special Jalpa, but the finished car didn’t look nearly as impressive as the Athon did.

When looking at the Jalpa Spyder from the side, you would immediately notice the problem; the rear was out of proportion compared to the rest of the car. The engine cover and tonneau cover were just too large for the Jalpa while the original passenger cell was too much forward in this design, on the regular Jalpa with the section behind the seats still in place this wasn’t visible but on the Spyder it quickly became evident.

You might not expect this, but the Jalpa Spyder did have a fully functional, retractable roof designed for it, as you can see on these images, probably a good idea would have been to include a hard-top version too, but unfortunately it never came this far, and back in the Eighties most convertible cars still had a canvas roof unlike today.

The Jalpa Spyder project was set aside, Lamborghini management at that time didn’t think they should actually offer the Jalpa Spyder in this configuration, it didn’t look exotic enough to be a Lamborghini, although I personally think it would still sell, after all it was an open top Lamborghini, the only official ‘new’ convertible Lamborghini at that time.

For a long time we were under the impression only one Jalpa Spyder Prototype was built, but in fact there were two made by Lamborghini, one that was almost ready to go into production, it could actually be driven while a second Jalpa Spyder was merely an unpainted chassis ready to undergo further development. Rumor has it both were left abandoned at the factory until Tonino Lamborghini bought them both the functional Jalpa Spyder was hidden from view for years, although an image was supplied to me by Raymond Stofer who was able to get a glimpse of this one of a kind Lamborghini, at the time this rare V8 Bull was in a very poor state, a flat tire at the rear, a dent in the door and the front spoiler was probably removed when parts were needed to be mounted on another Jalpa.

In 1986 Eric Thomassey was able to photograph both Jalpa Spyder chassis at the factory, from those photo we could derive that one of the chassis used was from an early Jalpa production with the mirror on the front fender while the second chassis came from a 1986 body as the steering rack was different and the holes were modified to hold the wiring that was changed from the early Jalpa models.

In 2001, when the Murciélago was introduced during an event at the factory I had to possibility to visit the museum in Dosso where Tonino Lamborghini put together a stunning collection of Raging Bull and among them a bright blue Lamborghini Jalpa Spyder was drawing attention.

This car had been restored as good as possible, since nothing much remained from the original specifications, let alone an interior, and various special body panels were completely missing, the people restoring this car for Tonino Lamborghini didn’t have much to start with besides a chassis and something that looked like an open Jalpa.

Up front they went for a bumper that looks very similar to a Ferrari 512 TR unit I would have preferred using an original Jalpa front bumper with the spoiler, but I guess they couldn’t source one for this project as spare parts for the Jalpa have run out at the factory I was told. At the back things didn’t get much better, the exhaust are taken from a Jalpa with US specs this exhaust normally used catalysts and the make things even worse the taillights aren’t even Lamborghini units but again look very much like Ferrari units.

What made it very obvious the chassis Tonino managed to obtain didn’t have too much of an interior left can be seen from the unfinished look of the dashboard, it looks nothing like a Jalpa dashboard I guess spare parts are very difficult to obtain, and if located way too expensive. Add the extensive use of plain DIY silver mesh for all the air intakes and extractors, and you know this rare Lamborghini had to be restored on a tiny budget.

Still this blue Lamborghini Jalpa Spyder is a very interesting piece of Lamborghini history, one that shouldn’t be forgotten and deserves a place in the museum, problem is that many people are asking questions about the state of this car wouldn’t it be a better idea to just get an old Jalpa for parts and create a Jalpa Spyder using this blue car but making it look like a normal Jalpa with the roof section removed.

During the actual unveiling, this black car was hidden from view, the tall wall sections were sliding open to show this magnificent car to the numerous spectators that gathered around the Automobili Lamborghini stand to witness this new car first hand.

The white interior of this car does look amazing, but that white dashboard will surely create a lot of glare with the sun on it, but still it’s a magnificent looking car, and the first open version of the Gallardo that is available on the market right now.

A lot of rumors are going around about the Concept S going into limited production, but that’s still not decided at this moment, so the Spyder version is your best shot at driving the Gallardo with the top down, listening to that wonderful V10 engine just behind your ears.

As on all Gallardo for the 2006 model year, this V10 now pumps out 520 Bhp at 8000 rpm, an increase of 20 Bhp compared to previous years, and with the combination of a slightly lower gear ratio, top speed went up to 315 Km/h.

You must admire the very special way to roof is folded away, first the two ‘buttress’ of the roof go up, then the entire engine cover rises upwards and backwards, afterward it tilts open at the rear to allow the entire roof to be folded underneath this Carbon Fiber hood very impressive and elegant. And it only takes 20 seconds from start to finish, leaving you with a magnificent open Lamborghini, and you must admit, this Gallardo Spyder even looks good with the roof up.

Note that the first deliveries of this awesome open Lamborghini started during March 2006, but all 800 units that would be built during 2006 were sold out at that time, so the waiting list was reaching 12 months in March 2006, and to make things worse, a long list of options was also available for this Spyder version, ranging from the well known e-Gear to a rear view parking video camera system, and Lamborghini’s ‘Privilegio’ programme which offers a totally custom made car to the customer, note that this Privilegio programme is also available on the other models made at Sant’Agata.

In case you were still hesitating to order your special Gallardo Spyder, this would help a prestigious international jury voted the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder as ‘The World’s most Beautiful Car’ with an official award at the Triennale di Milano on March 3. 2006.
