LAMBORGHINI MURCIÉLAGO
The Ultimate Guide To The Lamborghini Murciélago: Every Variant, Specs, Pics, Performance & More
Lamborghini Murciélago
The impact of Audi taking over Lamborghini in 1998 was most massively felt when Lamborghini launched the successor to the Lamborghini Diablo, the mighty Murciélago. Since acquiring Lamborghini, Audi invested a lot of money to modernize the Sant'Agata factory and helped engineer the new Murciélago (it had limited impact on the last Diablo models). Its high quality standards and testing procedures improved the new generation Lamborghinis a lot, making them far more reliable and user friendly than the past.
The new Lamborghini was styled by Audi designer Luc Donckerwolcke (no Marcello Gandini here). It was clearly an evolution of the Diablo design, with more purity of design like the original Countach. The heart of any Lamborghini supercar is its engine and the Murciélago has one of the best naturally aspirated engines ever made. Like the Diablo, it is powered by a naturally aspirated V12, now bigger than ever thanks to being stroked-out to 6192 cc (6.2 liters). It also got new 3-stage variable geometry intake manifold and exhaust valve variable timing (in addition to the existing intake VVT). Over the years the V12 was upgraded as was the entire Murciélago range. Below we take you through everything you ever wanted to know about the Lamborghini Murciélago.

Best Murciélago? Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SuperVeloce
It is hard not to love the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce. There were technically better supercars around at the time but nothing on the road that had the sheer theatrical presence of this Murcielago. It looks like a supercar, sounds like a supercar and for the first time in Lamborghini history, drove like the best of the best.
Arguably the most significant aspect of the Murcielago is the fact that it was the first car to be built by Lamborghini under Audi stewardship.

LAMBORGHINI MURCIÉLAGO PRODUCTION MODELS
The new Lamborghini, which was known only as the L147 project during development, was first unveiled during an awesome show at the foot of the Etna volcano on Sicily. It had a mid-mount V12 engine, the transmission following the manufacturer’s typical arrangement with the gearbox located in front of the engine and the rear differential “integrated” in the powertrain, permanent 4WD with a central viscous coupling. The rather controversial styling of this new Lamborghini stirred some emotions from both owners and enthusiasts all over the world.

Still using a mid engine layout, the L147 uses a steel tube space frame chassis with the steel roof welded on, the doors are still aluminum while most of the other bodyparts are Carbon Fiber. The L147 remains close to the current Diablo's layout, with the gearbox in front of the engine, it is very nice to see the engine cover seen on some photo's looks a lot like the one used on the legendary Miura, while later photo's show a revolutionary new design.

Lamborghini Prototypes. As we all know, the Diablo successor had a very impressive evolution, the initial development started back when Automobili Lamborghini SpA was still owned by Indonesians, who asked Zagato to design their new Lamborghini flagship, however, when Audi AG took over the company in July 1999, this ‘Canto’ design was rejected and they started again from scratch. Note however that a rumored total of five Canto’s have been built.

Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster Concept. During the opening of the 2003 edition of the Detroit Auto Show, Automobili Lamborghini SpA finally showed us a first impression of the Murciélago Roadster … Concept. The car shown here is still a Concept prototype, but it does look great, and production is very possible, with only minor changes to this awesome design according to Sig. Guiseppo Grecco, who made this statement when he personally introduced the car in Detroit.
The birth of the Murcielago was a revelation: yes, it retained all the attributes of Lambos of old, but managed this while at the same time being relatively easy to live with.

FAST FACTS
Lamborghini Murcielago Top Speed
The top speed of the Murciélago depends on the specific model and configuration. The base Murciélago model has a top speed over 205 mph (330 km/h). The Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, a more performance-focused version of the Murciélago, claims a top speed of 342 km/h (213 mph) when fitted with an optional smaller spoiler, or 337 km/h (209 mph) with the standard Aeropack spoiler. The Lamborghini Murciélago driven by Giorgio Sanna even set a new world speed record for a normal production car with an average speed of 325.98 km/h on the fastest lap at the Nardò racetrack in Puglia.
Lamborghini Murcielago 0-60 mph
The standard Lamborghini Murciélago, for example, could reach 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds, as seen in the 2003 model. This acceleration time was consistent across several years and versions of the Murciélago, with the 2004 40th Anniversary Edition and the 2005 Murciélago Roadster also boasting 0-60 mph times of 3.6 seconds and 3.7 seconds, respectively.
However, some specific versions of the Murciélago were even quicker. The 2006 Lamborghini Murciélago LP640, for example, could reportedly reach 0-60 mph in just 2.859 seconds.
Regardless of the specific model, the Murciélago's ability to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds, and in some cases under 3 seconds, is part of what makes it a remarkable vehicle. The powerful V12 engine and all-wheel drive system contribute to these impressive performance figures.
Lamborghini Murcielago 1/4 Mile Time
Murcielago can achieve a quarter mile in 10.9 seconds at 129.4 mph. However, the 2006 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 variant is reported to complete a quarter mile in approximately 11.139 seconds at 123.413 mph.
Lamborghini Murcielago Horsepower
The 2001 Lamborghini Murcielago had a V12 Petrol engine with a power output of 572 bhp or 427 kW.
However, by 2010, the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 was delivering a maximum horsepower of 640 at 8000 RPM.
The 2011 Lamborghini Murcielago's horsepower ranged from 640 hp to 650 hp depending on the trim and drivetrain.
This data indicates that the horsepower of the Lamborghini Murcielago increased over the years of its production.
Lamborghini Murcielago Gas Mileage
On average, the Murcielago has been recorded to have a fuel consumption of 13.2 MPG or 21.4 litres/100km. The combined gas mileage of a Lamborghini Murcielago can range from 10.5 miles per gallon (19.1 liters per 100 km) to 13.0 miles per gallon (23.8 liters per 100 km) depending on the model and year. For instance, the 2010 Lp670-4 2 Door Superveloce has a combined gas mileage of 10.5 miles per gallon (19.1 liters per 100 km), while the 2007 LP640 2 Door Coupe 6-Speed has a combined gas mileage of 13.0 miles per gallon.
Lamborghini Murcielago Monthly Payment
If you are considering leasing a Lamborghini Murcielago, it's mentioned that the average monthly lease cost is around $3,500, including taxes and fees. However, the actual cost can vary depending on the specific vehicle and lease terms.
Lamborghini Murcielago Oil Change Cost
The cost of an oil change for a Lamborghini Murcielago can be quite high. According to multiple sources, it can cost approximately $2,000 for an oil change. This high cost is due to the complex engine and drainage system of the Murcielago.
The importance of consistent oil changes should not be underestimated. Engine oil should generally be changed every 3,000 miles, or every 7,500 - 10,000 miles if your car uses synthetic oil.
It's also worth noting that if you neglect issues like a leaky oil pan, the cost of repairs could drastically increase, possibly even exceeding the value of the car.
While the parts and service costs might not seem too high, with parts costing on average $33.34 - $40.75, and services costing $40.50 - $49.50, it's the high skill level and time required that contribute to the overall high cost of an oil change for a Lamborghini Murcielago. The repair takes on average 0.68h - 0.83h for a mechanic to complete.
