If you are a Lamborghini enthusiast like myself you are bound to have a large collection of scale cars on just about every model ever to leave the factory gates at Sant’Agata, but scale cars are only part of the obsession … I for one try to obtain the original factory brochures, the press kits … and naturally the books published on Lamborghini.

One of the latest books that I was able to add to my collection is the ‘Lamborghini supercars 50 Years’ written by Stuart Codling with photographs by James Mann, available from Qaurto, this book tells the story starting with the gorundbraking Miura and continues right up to the Aventador and Huracan … the foreword by none other than Fabio Lamborghini himself is almost reason enough to buy this book if you ask me.

And things only get better after you’ve red the foreword … this is a large and heavy book, a hardback with slip sleeve cover that is nicely bound in the old fashion way with a ribbon on top and bottom of the spline … this is a quality book and not simply a glued together quick and dirty hardcover … this is what I would call a very nice ‘coffee table book’, it will look amazing on your shelve and on the table when you have friends over … this book will be a talking piece on her own.

We are talking about a book holding more than 220 pages, most of them in full color and showing some of the most amazing photos made on these stunning cars, James Mann is a world famous car photographer, and his experience shows in the numerous photos published troughout this awesome new book.

The first pages in this book hold the foreword by Fabio as mentioned earlier, but after that the story continues with an in depth introduction in to the world of Ferruccio Lamborghini with the birth of Automobili Lamborghini SpA back in 1963 and the release of the first production model, the 350 GT after he unveiled the 350 GTV prototype.

In 1965 business was booming at the car factory in Sant’Agata and the world’s first mid-engine supercar for the road was unveiled … the legendary Lamborghini Miura, after the original P400 and later the P400S were replaced by the magnificent Miura SV and the one of a kind Miura Jota the time had come in Sant’Agata to release yet another milestone in the history of the Raging Bull.

The Lamborghini Countach was unlike anything available on the market back in the Seventies, with the massive V12 behind the seats and the angular styling you might think that would be enough to make the Countach an instant legend … but the introduction of the upward opening doors would mark the start of a style that is still being used today on the new Aventador.

Project 112 would remain in production until 1990 when the Lamborghini Diablo had the difficult task to take over the reign as the V12 flagship from Sant’Agata while the company was now owned by Chrysler in the United States … not an easy task, but the Diablo managed to become a success once again, especially when Audi took over and introduced the Diablo 6.0 VT and the impressive Diablo GT.

After the Diablo the V12 was once again redesigned … into the Murciélago, the bat from Italy … more angular styling compared to the Diablo and with never before seen performance available to be used on the open road … and just in case the large V12 was a little too much for you Lamborghini introduced the V10 Gallardo in 2003.

The Gallardo would remain in production until 2013, along the way several different editions, redesigns and power increases would happen, but in the end over 14,000 of these V10 would leave the gates in Sant’Agata … making the Gallardo the most successful model ever built by Lamborghini … in fact between 1963 and 2013 this V10 model would account for almost half of the entire production built.

At the moment of writing the Lamborghini Aventador has become the V12 flagship and the Huracan took over from the Gallardo as the V10 model, but not before Lamborghini would build cars like the limited edition Reventon Roadster and the lightweight Sesto Elemento … both featured in this book naturally.

Motorbooks ISBN 978-0-7603-4795-9 is a must have book on Lamborghini if you ask me, sure it doesn’t talk too much about the classic cars and the history of Automobili Lamborghini SpA before the Miura … but the well written text and amazing photos printed in Lamborghini Supercars 50 years more than makes up for that … if you want a recent book that brings the modern Lamborghini to you in printed form this is the one to get!
