Back-to-Back Wins and a Tied Championship
Vito Postiglione and Karol Basz won Race 1 at Silverstone for the Imperiale Racing team, their second consecutive victory in the 2018 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season after a similar result at Monza in April. The win moved them back into a tie atop the PRO standings with Giacomo Altoè, sharpening a championship fight that is already tense just two rounds into the six-round calendar.
For Postiglione, Silverstone continues to be remarkably productive ground. Lamborghini confirms this was his fourth victory at the British circuit since 2016, including two wins at the same venue last year. In a one-make series where every car runs the same Huracán Super Trofeo Evo, that kind of track-specific consistency matters enormously: driver knowledge of a circuit’s nuances becomes the decisive variable when the machinery is equal.
The race itself turned on a strategic pit-stop gamble. Postiglione ran steadily in fourth during his stint before Imperiale Racing brought the car in early. Basz emerged ahead and managed the gap cleanly to the flag, finishing just over 1.5 seconds clear of Daniel Zampieri, who closed hard in the final laps after taking over from Altoè. Frederik Blomstedt, inheriting the Bonaldi Motorsport car from Patrick Kujala, completed the overall podium in third.
Spinelli’s Record Lap and the Evo’s Pace
The weekend’s most striking single performance came before the race even started. Loris Spinelli, driving for Antonelli Motorsport, set pole position with a 1:58.811, a lap more than three seconds faster than the previous Silverstone best, which Postiglione himself set in 2017. A three-second improvement at a circuit like Silverstone is enormous in any context, but in a one-make series it points directly to the capabilities of the updated Huracán Super Trofeo Evo specification.
Spinelli led the opening phase of the race before handing over to teammate Juan Perez, who brought the car home fourth overall and first in the PRO-AM class. That gave the Antonelli duo their second consecutive PRO-AM victory, mirroring the Imperiale Racing streak in the PRO category.

AM and Lamborghini Cup: A Debut Win and a Dominant Frenchman

August MacBeth, racing for the first time in the series, shared the VS Racing Huracán Super Trofeo Evo with defending AM champion Andrej Lewandowski and took the class win. Lewandowski acknowledged a difficult weekend leading up to the race but called the result “important for the standings.” Manuel Lauck and Florian Scholze of Dörr Motorsport finished second in AM after leading for much of the race, with Miro Konopka rounding out the class podium.
In the Lamborghini Cup, Joseph Collado of AGS Events was the clear class of the field. The Frenchman described the victory as his first in the European series, noting that he chose 2018 as his first full-season campaign after sporadic appearances in previous years. William Van Deyzen and Gerard Van der Horst, both racing for Van der Horst Motorsport, completed the Cup podium.
One small drama: Francesca Linossi and Stefano Colombo received a drive-through penalty for exceeding pit-lane speed, effectively ending their challenge for PRO-AM positions. In a 50-minute race format, that kind of penalty is almost impossible to recover from.
Why Super Trofeo Matters Beyond the Podium
The Super Trofeo Europe series, which Lamborghini Squadra Corse launched in 2009, operates as a customer-racing ladder feeding directly into Lamborghini’s broader motorsport ecosystem. Drivers compete in identical machinery across PRO, PRO-AM, AM, and Lamborghini Cup categories, with each continental championship (Europe, Asia, North America) culminating in a World Final where drivers from all regions race for an overall title.
For enthusiasts who follow the road cars more closely than the racing program, the connection is tangible. The Huracán Super Trofeo Evo that Spinelli used to demolish the Silverstone lap record shares its V10 architecture with the road-going Huracán lineup. The one-make format strips away the Balance of Performance debates and manufacturer politics that can frustrate teams in open series, putting the emphasis squarely on driver skill, team preparation, and race-day strategy. Postiglione’s early pit-stop call at Silverstone is a textbook example: in a field of identical cars, the margin comes from execution, not horsepower.
The series also functions as a practical entry point for wealthy enthusiasts who want competitive wheel-to-wheel racing without the complexity of multi-manufacturer GT3 grids. Looking Ahead to Race 2
Race 2 was scheduled for the following morning, with Edoardo Liberati on pole position for VS Racing after topping the second qualifying session. With Postiglione and Basz now level on points with Altoè at the top of the PRO standings, the second Silverstone race carried real championship weight.
Four rounds remained after Silverstone in the 2018 calendar, plenty of racing to reshape the standings. But the pattern forming early in the season was already clear: Imperiale Racing’s consistency and Postiglione’s particular affinity for certain circuits were giving the team a strategic advantage that pure qualifying pace alone could not overcome.
