This yet-to-be-released Lamborghini Urus version took the exact same route as would be taken during the actual Pikes Peak Hill Climb race, and Lamborghini even managed to get the entire road closed to traffic just for their attempt to set a new record in this category,  the starting point is situated at an altitude of 2862 meters, Faggioli attacked all 156 turns for the next 20 km (12.42 miles) going,g uphill for about 1439 meters with an average gradient of 7%, and crossed the finish line at an altitude of 4302 meters (14,115 ft) after a mere 10:32.064.

But this attempt was not made during an official Pikes Peak Hill Climb race, however, the time was recorded by the official timekeepers of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, in the end, the Urus bested both the previous PPIHC sanctioned non-race day manufacturer record of 12:35.610 set by Paul Dallenbach in 2014, and the current race day record of 10:49.902 held by Rhys Millen, set in 2018, in a Bentley Bentayga, but it has to be mentioned the Lamborghini Urus used for this record-setting stint was slightly modified compared to a regular customer version.

The engine is still the already famous twin-turbo V8 unit, but the interior had to be modified to comply with safety regulations, a roll cage was fitted to the cockpit and the standard seat got replaced by a race seat, complete with six-point racing harness seat belts, while an additional fire extinguishing system was installed, just in case, and to really make sure the Lamborghini Urus could adhere to the track as good as possible, a new tire has been developed between Pirelli and Lamborghini, for the first time ever a Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick was created specifically for SUV use.

“The decision to test ourselves at Pikes Peak reflects the Lamborghini spirit of ‘expect the unexpected, and demonstrates the outstanding performance of the new Urus model to be presented shortly,” said Rouven Mohr, Automobili Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer. “Pikes Peak is the most famous hill climb event in the world, as well as being extremely challenging for the car: the uneven track layout tests the chassis’ balance; the significant altitude differences stress the powertrain, and the weather conditions can change very rapidly between start to finish.”

In the FaceBook post by Giorgio Sanna he used the hashtag #urusperformante, so could this be a teaser on how Lamborghini will be calling this new model, could it be the Urus Performante edition? Automobili Lamborghini SpA recently entered their Urus Super SUV into the annual Days of Speed event on the ice of Lake Baikal, organized by LAV-racing Company between 10 and 13 March, Days of Speed is an official FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) and RAF (Russian Automobile Federation) regulated event created to set speed records … on ice.

Despite the inherent issues of driving on ice, and the added challenge of strong wind gusts on the icy flats, the impressive Lamborghini Urus managed to set a record speed of 298 km/h during the 1,000-meter record challenge … during which the Super SUV managed an average speed of 114 km/h.

Thanks to the 4.0-Liter twin-turbo V8 engine pumping out 650 hp, the Lamborghini Urus even went up to 302 km/h on the ice during test runs, which is very close to its top speed of 305 km/h … a testament to how balanced this amazing SUV is made.

This bright red Lamborghini Miura SV from 1971 with chassis #4840 didn’t set the highest price ever for a Lamborghini sold at auction, or even the highest bid on a Miura per se, but it did set a new record for a ‘Miura SV’ when it sold for € 2,423,750 (US$ 2,933,211) at the RM-Sotheby’s auction on February 13, 2021.

There is one specific 1971 Miura SV chassis #4878 that sold for even more money at auction, back in September 2020, at an auction by Gooding and Company, this ‘Speciale’ sold for GBP 3,207,000 (US$ 4,163,219) while its maximum estimate was ‘only’ $2,600,000. But this Oro Metallizzato Miura came with factory-fitted dry-sump lubrication and limited-slip differential, making it probably one of the most sought-after SV among the 150 Spinto Veloce built between 1971 and 1973.

If we take a look at auction results for Lamborghinis over the last years, the Miura is the most expensive one without a doubt, with only one exception … a cream/white Veneno Roadster that sold for an unbelievable € 7,633,447 (US$ 8,320,858) in 2019, and if we discard the ‘Speciale’ with chassis #4878 the red Lamborghini Miura SV #4840 in this article is the most expensive one sold at auction to date, and the latter comes with a very interesting history ..

The Miura SV #4840 went to a customer in Germany in May 1972, finished in a stunning Rosso Corsa over a dark blue interior … but the owner had noticed the stunning Lamborghini Jota created by Bob Wallace, so he wanted his Miura to be converted into an SVJ.

The factory did actual SVJ conversions in Sant’Agata, this was done on special request only, and to date only four official ‘factory Miura SVJ’ exist: chassis #4934 was a factory conversion from 1971, #5090 was built right from the start as an SVJ, #4860 was another official conversion done in 1973, while #4990 was the fourth factory-official Miura SVJ conversion in 1972.

Note a regular Miura SV came with an MSRP of $13,000 back in 1971 (this inflates to about $86,000 in 2021), it was one of the most expensive cars available at the time, rumor has it the custom-built SVJ conversion from the factory added $8,125 ($53,175 in 2021 money) to the base price.

This 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV #4840 apparently didn’t receive the SVJ styling conversion at the factory in Sant’Agata, but it still got fitted with a pair of fixed headlights under perspex plastic covers, the grilles in the front hood were removed and open air vents fitted, the fuel filler cap was cut into this hood too, and naturally those typical ‘canards’ were fitted on either side of the front hood.

Note that this Miura still had the two windshield wipers, some of the other SVJ conversions turned to a single wiper setup, side vents were cut into both the front and rear hoods of the Miura. At the rear two more vents were cut between the taillights, and the exhaust was moved up into the rear diffuser.

This Miura changed hands in 1977, but it was sold again to a third owner in 1978, with just over 30,000 km on the counter, this Lamborghini sold in 1997 after which she would undergo a complete frame-up restoration starting from bare metal, the engine, and gearbox were rebuilt by Instinsky of Stuttgart, during which they also converted the car to accept unleaded fuel.

The SVJ conversion was retained, as was the special exhaust treatment, but the car was repainted in non-factory original, dark green metallic over a very nice, tan leather interior combined with black details … the full restoration would take 4 years until 2001.

When this specific Miura SVJ was shown at the 2012 Techno Classica show in Germany, she had once again changed ownership, and this rare Lamborghini was now part of the Dr. Oetker collection …only to be sold again in 2015 to the owner that would eventually offer her up for auction in February 2021.

But not before Miura SV #4840 would once again go through a complete restoration, this time back to her original 1972 specifications, the expensive SVJ conversion was removed from this Lamborghini, the body remade into the original SV style, repainted in the correct Rosso Corsa shade with silver side sills and silver SV wheels.

On the inside the tan and black theme made way for a full rework into blue, from stunning blue carpets to the seats, door panels, dashboard, and that typical ‘arched’ Miura central console … everything got covered in stunning blue leather … this last restoration was completed in 2016, but it seems the owner didn’t drive her much over the next few years as there aren’t even 500 km on the odometer at the time of the auction.

RM-Sotheby’s listed the 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV #4840, engine #30628 at their February 13 auction in Paris as Certified by Lamborghini’s own Polo Storico, complete with the traditional black certification box and documents, with an estimate between €2,100,000-2,500,000 (US$ 2,541,400-3,025,500) … the hammer came down at €2,423,750, including fees.

Another Lamborghini that sold at the same auction, that also underwent a restoration back to more factory original specifications after being heavily modified before was the Countach LP400 chassis #1120262, formerly owned by Rod Stewart, this was one of the legendary Mardikian Countach SS models with a removable roof panel.

If we look closer at the second half of 2020, Lamborghini shattered every previous record in history in terms of deliveries to customers with record-setting sales figures … and the order books are still going strong, every single car that will be built until the Summer of 2021 is already sold, the waiting list on the Urus is even 8 months at this moment we’ve been told.

In 2020 the United States market was again the largest for Lamborghini, 2,224 Bulls were shipped there, while Germany accounted for 607 units, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau are considered as one market segment at Lamborghini, and they sent 604 cars to that region. The United Kingdom with 517 units and the domestic market in Italy with 347 conclude the top 5 markets for the Sant’Agata supercar builder.

The fastest-growing market for Automobili Lamborghini SpA was South Korea with a 75% increase to 303 cars, while Germany also grew 8% in 2020. Unsurprisingly, the Lamborghini Urus is by far the best selling Bull at this time, 4,391 Urus Super SUV were delivered in 2020, but the Huracán remains a steady seller too with 2,193 cars … still the by now 10-year-old Aventador managed to reach 846 units, which is certainly not bad for the V12 flagship model.

Let’s not forget Lamborghini released a total of six new models during 2020, starting with the Huracan EVO RWD in January, the Spyder version in May while in July we got to see the amazing Lamborghini Sián Roadster for the first time, all 19 units were already spoken for.

Later some very fortunate customers were able to get the latest Raging Bull from the Squadra Corse department, the Essenza SCV12, a track-only beauty, limited to 40 units …but probably the most eagerly awaited unveil was for the Lamborghini Huracán STO, the street-legal version of the famous Huracán Super Trofeo race car.

Another big profile introduction was the SC20, a one-off, bespoke build for only one lucky customer, designed by the Centro Stile together with the owner, and subsequently built by Squadra Corse, just like the SC18 back in 2018.

2020 also was the year for three anniversaries in the history of Lamborghini, both the Urraco and the Jarama GT celebrated their 50th anniversary while the by now classic Lamborghini Diablo reached her 30th birthday being introduced in January 1990, also note a total of 490 race cars have been built by Squadra Corse since 2009, while in the GTD class, Lamborghini secured the first place for the third time in three years in the 24 Hours of Daytona.

After the factory reopened, they released the Huracan RWD Spyder, the stunning Sián Roadster (of which only 19 will be built) and the track-only SCV12 Essenza … and set a record of 10,000 Urus made, and more impressively, 10,000 Aventador made, a tremendo

Rumor has it you can’t order any Aventador S or S Roadster anymore, and production is set at building the S, S Roadster, SVJ and SVJ Roadster that are ordered already … so are they gearing up for a replacement for the Aventador? 2021 would make sense, as this would be exactly 10 years after the introduction of the Aventador as a successor to the Murciélago. But earlier rumors mentioned a delay for the Aventador successor by several years, some even mentioned 2023, and while we can be sure the Aventador replacement will be a hybrid model, it isn’t even sure the legendary V12 will remain.

Another press release to take into account was published on September 25, when it was officially confirmed the current Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini SpA, Stefano Domenicali would leave his position to become the new president and CEO of Formula 1, remember when Domenicali came to Audi in 2014 he was head of Ferrari’s F1 team from 2008 to 2014, in 2016 he would take over the reign at Lamborghini from Stephan Winkelmann.

A successor for Stefano Domenicali hasn’t been announced yet, but there might be other reasons that come into play here. Remember the news about Bugatti … the Volkswagen Audi Group might be selling Bugatti to Rimac, a step that would makes sense in a future of electric powered cars … and in the wake of that news there have been a lot of rumors going round about Lamborghini, Ducatti, and Bentley being for sale too.

Remember Automobili Lamborghini SpA has changed hands a few times in history, Ferruccio Lamborghini founded the company back in 1963, but in 1972 he sold the a controlling interest to Georges-Henri Rossetti, a Swiss industrialist, for a rumored $600,000. Ferruccio stated he would still remain at the factory to run it, but the oil-crisis of 1973 made things even worse for him and his passion dwindled further, soon after this he sold the remaining 49% of his shares to Rene Leimer, another Swiss resident.

Automobili Lamborghini SpA was officially declared bankrupt by the Italian court in 1978, on February 28th, 1980 the receiver Giorgio Mirone and the commissioner Artese decided to wind up the factory, fortunately the Swiss based Mimran brothers were able to save the factory, but they were only allowed to manage the factory, it would be 1984 when Patrick Mimran was allowed to purchase Lamborghini for about 3 million US dollars.

The Nuova Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini SpA was making money again, but suddenly on April 23rd 1987 Lee Iacocca, president of Crysler Corporation, announced he bought the Sant’Agata company from Patrick Mimran for $25,000,000. Chrysler changed the name back to Automobili Lamborghini SpA and injected $50,000,000 to modernize the factory.

Chrysler decided to sell Automobili Lamborghini SpA on January 21st 1994 for a rumored amount of 35,000,000,000 Lire (about $40,000,000) to a fairly unknown group of three Far-Eastern companies, but towards the end of 1997 Di Capua started negotiations with Audi AG for the use of their 4.2-Litre V-8 engine together with the Audi A8 Quattro four-wheel drive to be used in the new ‘Baby Lambo’ since developing an all-new V-10 engine seemed impossible at the time.

This would lead to Audi AG completely buying the factory, on July 27th 1998 Audi AG became the single owner of all Automobili Lamborghini SpA shares, the necessary paperwork was finalized on August 4, ownership of this amazing Italian car builder was once again changed, this time for $110,000,000 … this would eventually lead to the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Audi R8.

So will Automobili Lamborghini SpA change hands again in the near future? Lamborghini cars are built for a niche market, and while VW is looking at full electric cars in the future, that might not be an option for many years to come at Sant’Agata … so does this mean Lamborghini no longer fits in the long term plans for the VAG group?

If you take a look at the sales figures for 2017 you’ll notice they went from 3,815 to more than double that number in only two years, and while both the V10 and the V12 models are still selling strong, this impressive number is mostly due to the Urus that sold no less than 4,962 units in 2019 … against 2,139 Huracán and 1,104 Aventador.

At this time Automobili Lamborghini SpA has 165 official dealers in 51 countries all over the world, the Asia Pacific region has grown the most in 2019 with 2,162 Lamborghini delivered (+66%) while America raised sales by 45% to 2,837 units and the EMEA region managed a 28% increase to 3,206 units in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Without a doubt, the United States of America is still the single largest market with 2,374 Lamborghini sold, but the UK also received 658 cars while Germany took 562 of Sant’Agata finest in 2019.

Automobili Lamborghini SpA is looking forward in 2020, they will continue to develop hybrid models for the next-generation of exotics to be built at Sant’Agata, in 2019 they introduced the Huracan EVO both in Coupe and Spyder version while they Aventador SVJ Roadster was also shown to the public at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show … but then the Huracan Sterrato was shown as a concept while in August they unveiled the Aventador SVJ 63 Roadster at Monterey Car Week in the USA but probably the most eagerly awaited model was the Sian FKP 37 unveiled at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show … the very first hybrid Lamborghini production model, albeit limited to only 63 units.

But now Lamborghini has decided to unveil their new cars at private, invitation-only events for customers and media, the first result of this decision will be the absence of Lamborghini at the most important show in Europe … Lamborghini will not be present at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show!

So if Lamborghini will release a hybrid version of the Urus, or the Roadster version of the Sian … we’ll not be able to admire and photograph it in Geneva in March … most of the public will never see these cars now. And what about the Aventador successor and Huracan replacement then … all of these will probably be unveiled to a select group of VIP only, and no longer to the general public that has been going to these motor shows … thousands and thousands of people will no longer be able to admire the new Lamborghini cars in Geneva it seems.

But that car isn’t available yet … still, Automobili Lamborghini SpA managed to set another record sales figure for the first six months of 2018, between the 1st of January and the 30th of June a total of 2,327 Lamborghini were delivered to customers … an 11% increase compared to 2017, and a number that surpasses the entire year of production from only five years ago.

Naturally, the Lamborghini Huracan took most of the deliveries for her account, a total of 1,604 V10 models were delivered, the new Performante and Performante Spyder surely played a major role in setting yet another record, while the Lamborghini Aventador, with the stunning S and S Roadster, managed 673 deliveries.

As usual the United States took the number one spot in numbers, but Japan was a close second and the UK came in third … in fact Europe saw in increase of 30% during this period … and with the Urus just being delivered to her lucky customers since July 2018 it is safe to say the second half of the 2018 fiscal year will set a new overall record … keeping in mind they reached over a billion Euro turnover in 2017, this year will show an even larger number.

And an even more impressing record was broken only two weeks later, by mid-July the 11,000th Huracan was finished, a Blu Nethuns car sold in Italy … while the 8,000th Aventador S was next to her. This Aventador S Roadster in a stunning Grigio Telesto would be shipped to Japan … it is safe to say the V10 Huracan will break the total production number of the Gallardo (at 14,029 units) easily before being succeeded, and the Aventador has completely shattered any production numbers of previous V12 models from Sant’Agata … the Murciélago was built nearly 4,000 times, the Aventador has already doubled that … and is still going strong.

Back in 2011, when the Aventador was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show it was stated only 4,000 would be made, but that number was quickly shattered, and with 8,000 now already been built, and the Aventador SVJ and SVJ Roadster still to be unveiled, we might even be seeing a total production number of 10,000 before the successor takes over in a few years.

The camouflaged Aventador SVJ with official Lamborghini driver Marco Mapelli at the helm, took on the lap-time test at the 20.6 km track. The challenge was managed by Lamborghini’s Research and Development team, with extensive tire support from Pirelli technicians and driver. Fitted with cameras inside and out and full telemetry, under the formal scrutiny of Remak personnel who managed time and GPS certification using VBOX-Racelogic instrumentation, the lap attempt of the Aventador SVJ was performed during an exclusive session on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

“The Aventador SVJ takes the Jota suffix, following the Lamborghini tradition for denoting a car’s track-focused talent. This new car is the convergence of Lamborghini technologies to produce a super sports car that transcends current performance benchmarks,” says Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Domenicali. “Its tenure as the Nürburgring lap time record holder, even before its unveiling during the Monterey Car Week in California in August, endorses Lamborghini’s competence in applying superlative design engineering and ground-breaking technologies. The SVJ is a super sports car at the zenith of performance, while also ensuring unrivalled driving pleasure.”

“This is another demonstration of the exceptional skills and teamwork by the dedicated personnel within Automobili Lamborghini: from the R&D team, as well as from our test drivers and, of course, partners such as Pirelli,” adds Chief Technical Officer, Maurizio Reggiani.

The Aventador SVJ is created to feature higher power output, with lightweight materials contributing to the best weight-to-power ratio of only 1,98 kg/hp. It features Lamborghini’s patented ALA 2.0 active aerodynamics system with aero vectoring for the best handling and downforce, as well as new aerodynamic features specific to the SVJ.

Development of the car included significant CFD simulation to optimize the ALA performance, with the exceptional downforce requiring an entire rework of the Aventador’s active and passive dynamic systems to exploit the car’s physical boundaries. Developing ALA strategies for the Aventador SVJ through both static and dynamic virtual simulations, a virtual attempt at the Nürburgring Nordschleife already returned a better lap time than the Lamborghini Huracán Performante.

The set-up of the Aventador SVJ has been entirely re-engineered to enhance its four-wheel drive system, rear-wheel steering and ESC. Significantly stiffer than the Aventador LP 750-4 SV, the steering has been retuned in the SVJ. The Aventador SVJ features a new specifically-developed Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires as standard. For the lap-time attempt the optional Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires were mounted.

In 2015 the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV delivered a sub-seven minute lap time, and in 2016 the Huracán Performante took the Nürburgring Nordschleife production car record, with a lap time of 6:52.01, which it held until September 2017.

This means the worldwide network of 135 official dealers in 50 countries have sold 7% more compared to last year … in fact, when compared to 2010 this means sales have grown 2.6 times from 1,302 units in 2010 to 3,457 in 2016, of which 1,041 cars were sold in the United States of America, the largest market for Automobili Lamborghini SpA. Japan is the second largest market with Germany, Canada, the Middle East and China as runner-up.

Another milestone in the production of the V10 Lamborghini has been reached in 2016, a total of 2,353 Huracan have been delivered, both in Coupé and Spyder version and in 4WD and 2WD configuration, while the 6,000th Lamborghini Aventador has been completed on the assembly line in December, a total of 1,104 V12 were shipped in 2016.

Lamborghini continues to release new and updated models, 2016 was no different with the very limited edition Centenario and Centenario Roadster, but also the special Huracan Avio (limited to 250 units) and the Aventador Miura Homage (limited to 50 cars) and the addition of the Huracan RWD Spyder to the V10 line-up.

An important evolution has recently been introduced as the new Lamborghini Aventador S, more than just an external restyle, the Aventador S can almost be called a completely new car with increased power and a new, more aggressive style now offering four-wheel steering for the first time on a production Bull.

And Lamborghini is preparing even more evolutions of the current line-up together with the introduction of the Urus SUV for 2018 … the expansion of the factory should be ready in 2017 and production of the third model at Sant’Agata will start soon …

In Fiscal Year 2019 (1 Jan-31 Dec), Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. continued its strong global growth. With an increase of 43% from 5,750 to 8,205 cars delivered to customers around the world, the Italian super sports car brand achieved sales growth for nine years in a row and set another historic sales record.

Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini comments: “The year 2019 was the most successful in our history. The team delivered another substantial sales increase, taking us to unprecedented historic highs. In only two years we more than doubled our sales numbers, a success that cannot be overrated. Lamborghini is a global brand and sales volumes are well distributed among the three major regions. With 165 dealers serving 51 countries, all regions set a new sales benchmark in 2019 and contributed to the total sales growth compared to the previous year: EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa): 3,206/+28%, America: 2,837/+45% and Asia Pacific: 2,162/+66%.

With 2,374 units the USA remains the largest single market, followed by Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau (770), the UK (658), Japan (641), Germany (562), the Middle East (387), Canada (376) and Italy (370). All these markets increased deliveries substantially and marked national historic sales levels.

Both super sports car model lines achieved a strong sales performance. Deliveries of the V12 Lamborghini Aventador with 1,104 units are still exceptionally robust. The V10 Lamborghini Huracán, introduced as Huracán EVO in 2019 with new design and enhanced technologies, sold 2,139 units.

In 2019, after just five years of production, a Lamborghini Huracán number 14,022 rolled off the assembly line, surpassing its predecessor the Gallardo that achieved the same volumes in 10 years, thus becoming the most successful Lamborghini of all time in terms of sales.

As expected, a substantial contribution to the global sales increase came from the Super SUV Urus, the best-in-class in its segment. In its first full year of market availability the sales number increased by 182% from 1,761 in 2018 to 4,962 units sold in 2019.

Beyond sales figures, Lamborghini outperformed all other key financial objectives in 2019.*

Outlook 2020

The company confirms a confident outlook for the Fiscal Year 2020. On a technological level, Lamborghini has decided to strategically develop hybrid variants for all next-generation super sports car models.

Lamborghini also continues its strategy in 2020 of presenting new models and initiatives within exclusive and personalized settings and events for customers and media. In this context Lamborghini will not be present at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2020.

Lamborghini remains confident in its overall outlook. In spite of increasing geopolitical uncertainties, upcoming US presidential elections and possible tariff challenges on a global and European level, the key economic denominators remain generally positive while less predictable. With continuing growth expected in the large economies around the world and due to its young and attractive product portfolio, Lamborghini expects further growth in new dimensions of both unit sales and turnover in the medium term.

New models 2019

The year started with the presentation of the new Lamborghini Huracán EVO, Lamborghini’s latest generation of the V10, four-wheel drive super sports car model. With a new design for improved aerodynamics it is the first Lamborghini with predictive logic on vehicle dynamics control and features a fully-integrated Lamborghini Vehicle Dynamics Control System combined with all-wheel drive, and all-wheel steering, for redefined parameters of responsiveness, agility and easiness to drive.

At the Geneva Motor Show in March the new Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder, with its own unique personality and driving excitement that only an open-top car can offer, joined its coupé counterpart as the second model in the V10 Huracán EVO line-up.

Also in Geneva the top of the line Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster was presented, upholding the exceptional performance, handling and aerodynamic superiority of the SVJ, with its unique roadster design granting an exclusive open-air exhilaration to both driver and passenger.

In June with the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato Automobili Lamborghini explored new horizons with an unconventional concept. Based on the super sports prowess of the V10 Huracán, the Sterrato draws on Lamborghini’s off-road expertise exemplified in the Urus Super SUV, creating a new dimension of Lamborghini ‘fun to drive off-road’: a transfer of technologies creating a super sports car for challenging environments.

In August Lamborghini presented the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ 63 Roadster, a limited edition of the iconic V12 super sports car at Monterey Car Week, USA. Creating a new expression of exclusivity following the SVJ 63 coupé, the SVJ Roadster will also be produced in just 63 numbered units, commemorating the company’s founding year of 1963.

Alongside the SVJ 63 Roadster, Lamborghini paid tribute to its endurance motorsport victories with the unveil of the Huracán EVO GT Celebration, a limited series of 36 units that pays tribute to the dual victories of 2018 and 2019 at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Furthermore, at Monterey Car Week automotive art and street art came together in a special Aventador S interpreted by the American artist Skyler Grey.

With the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, that will be built as a few-off in 63 units, the company delivers unique new hybrid technologies, including the world-first application of a supercapacitor for hybridization, new materials technology, and unsurpassed Lamborghini performance. Its futuristic design clearly intimates the first electrification of a production Lamborghini and the ground-breaking hybrid technologies within, as does its Sián moniker, meaning ‘flash of lightening’ in its homeland Bolognese dialect. The car honors Ferdinand Karl Piëch, born in 1937, who played a significant role in the acquisition of Automobili Lamborghini in 1998 by Audi AG.

The concept of one-offs is gaining impetus at Lamborghini due to the increasing demand for personalization. More than 50% of all Lamborghini super sports cars delivered are personalized through Lamborghini’s Ad Personam program.

In November Automobili Lamborghini presented its new concept car, the Lamborghini Lambo V12 Vision Gran Turismo, ahead of the 2019 World Finals of the FIA Certified Gran Turismo Championships in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The Lambo V12 Vision GT is a highly visionary concept, emphasizing ‘fun to drive’ within the digital environment of the iconic racing game Gran Turismo Sport for Sony PlayStation 4, where it will be virtually available from spring 2020.

Lamborghini Polo Storico

Based at the company’s HQ in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Lamborghini Polo Storico is the specialized unit dedicated to the restoration and certification of Lamborghini classic models (from the Lamborghini 350 GT to the Diablo). The division is also in charge of preserving archives and records; managing the supply of original spare parts for classic cars; and of organizing dedicated events as well as assisting owners in taking part in international classic events.

In September Polo Storico organized the second Lamborghini & Design Concorso d’Eleganza, this time from Venice to Trieste, in which 36 classic Lamborghini cars produced between 1964 and 1991, as well as contemporary models, took part to celebrate the work of architect Gae Aulenti.

In the course of 2019 many classic Lamborghinis restored by Polo Storico have won important awards at renowned Concours d’Elegance, such as Pebble Beach (USA) and Villa d’Este (I). In 2019 Lamborghini Polo Storico certified the original Miura P400 used in the Paramount Pictures film (1969) “The Italian Job”, which celebrated its 50th anniversary. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed the F1 Minardi Lamborghini 192L, fully restored by Polo Storico, thrilled the audience.

Lamborghini Museum Mudetec

The Lamborghini Museum Mudetec in Sant’Agata Bolognese registered an excellent year in terms of visitors. More than 112,000 enthusiasts visited the premises situated inside the Lamborghini factory in 2019. The museum is open daily, including Sundays, from 9:30 am to 7 pm (April- October) and from 9:30 am to 6 pm (November – March), and special exhibitions run alongside the permanent collection of historic Lamborghini models.

Lamborghini Squadra Corse

In January, Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the motorsport department of Automobili Lamborghini, won the legendary 24 Hours of Daytona with the new Huracán GT3 EVO for the second year in a row. Furthermore, the Italian super sports car manufacturer was the first to complete the “36 Hours of Florida”, with back-to-back victories in the 12 Hours of Sebring classic and the Daytona 24 Hours in the same year, also for the second time in a row. The culmination of a perfect racing season saw Lamborghini clinch the International GT Open championship and Blancpain GT Series “Triple Crown”.

In 2019 Lamborghini Squadra Corse also set a new benchmark, with over 350 racing Huracáns produced to date. Lamborghini Squadra Corse is one of the few motorsport departments in the world that manufactures its own racing cars on the same production line as the road car, inside the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory. Both the Huracán Super Trofeo and the Huracán GT3 share the same production line as standard Lamborghini Huracán cars.

During the 2019 World Finals in October, Lamborghini Squadra Corse presented a teaser of a new 12-cylinder track-only hypercar that will debut in 2020. It will be produced in a limited edition, with aerodynamic and mechanical specifications designed to bring out the best of the iconic 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, delivering 830 hp.

In 2015 Automobili Lamborghini set another sales record in its history. With 3,245 cars delivered to customers the company surpassed the 3,000 units mark for the first time, achieving a new milestone not only for sales, but also for brand and product.

“In 2015 Lamborghini delivered an exceptional sales performance and new records in all key business figures*, confirming the strength of our brand, product and commercial strategy. With the introduction of several new models in 2015 and a solid order bank we are well prepared for the year 2016,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

With 135 dealers serving 50 countries, worldwide deliveries to customers increased from 2,530 to 3,245 units in 2015. This represents a sales growth of 28% compared to the previous year and 2.5 times the sales of the year 2010.

“We increased sales in all our major regions with new sales records in America and Asia Pacific,” continued Winkelmann. “Our biggest markets are the USA and Greater China. They are followed by Japan, UK, the Middle East and Germany, each of them registering considerable growth in 2015.”

Lamborghini is a global brand and sales distribution is well-balanced among the three regions: EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), America and Asia Pacific, which each account for approximately one third of global sales.

Thanks to the ten-cylinder Huracán LP 610-4 model, the year 2015 has been the most successful yet in Lamborghini’s history for V10 sales. In its first year of full availability 2,242 units of the Lamborghini Huracán were delivered to customers. Sales figures of the Huracán in the first 18 months after market introduction were up by 70% compared to its predecessor, the Gallardo, in the same period after market launch.

Deliveries to customers of the twelve-cylinder Aventador LP 700-4, in both coupé and roadster version, and the new Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce, totaled 1,003 units. The success story of the Aventador is reflected also in sales figures for the first 52 months after market introduction, which were up by 124% compared to its predecessor, the Murciélago, in the same period after market launch.

New models 2015

The year 2015 was characterized by the introduction of several new models. At the Geneva Motorshow in March the Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce was presented in its coupé version, followed by the roadster’s debut in August at Monterey Car Week in the USA. The Superveloce is the purest essence of a Lamborghini super sports car, and all 600 SV coupés and 500 SV roadsters are sold out.

Summer 2015 also saw the market introduction of a special series, the Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition, created to celebrate the long and ongoing history of collaboration with prestigious Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli.

In autumn 2015 the new Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder and the new rear-wheel drive version Huracán LP 580-2 expanded the successful Lamborghini V10 family. Both versions are available in markets worldwide from spring 2016.

Third model in 2018 – Lamborghini prepares for a new era

In May 2015, production was confirmed of the new Lamborghini Super Sports Utility Vehicle in Sant’Agata Bolognese. From 2018 the Urus will be the third model in Lamborghini’s product range. Delivering additional growth and significant opportunities across the marque, it will also determine a substantial increase in the production capacity of the factory. Over the lifecycle of the new vehicle Lamborghini will invest hundreds of millions of Euros and hire 500 new employees.

Lamborghini Squadra Corse 2015 – Commitment to motorsports

In 2015, the new Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo made its debut on international racetracks in all three of the brand’s one-make series – the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo in Europe, Asia and North America. With more than 80 cars on the grid worldwide, a new record has been achieved also in the Super Trofeo Series.

The Huracán GT3 was presented in January 2015 for competition in one of the most demanding and prestigious international categories. During the 2015 season the Huracán GT3 has been among the protagonists of the Blancpain Endurance Series where it won in Monza in April: the first time, worldwide, that a GT car won at its debut in a GT competition.

Social responsibility – CO2 neutral factory

In summer 2015 Automobili Lamborghini inaugurated the new trigeneration and district heating systems, two of the main projects that lead to the company’s attainment of CO2-neutral certification for the entire plant.

The certification under the “Carbon Neutrality” program is the first in the world awarded to a company by DNV GL (Det Norske Veritas Germanischer Lloyd), one of the leading environmental risk management classification, verification and service companies in the world. Automobili Lamborghini achieved this significant goal by reducing and compensating for CO2 emissions inside the production site.

Lamborghini Polo Storico – unique knowledge and guaranteed authenticity for classic Lamborghini cars

In 2015 Lamborghini launched its restoration center under the name of Lamborghini Polo Storico. The new department includes the brand’s historical archives, the vehicle restoration center, vehicle certification, and guarantees the availability of numerous genuine spare parts for historical Lamborghini models. With the new Polo Storico, Automobili Lamborghini emphasizes the importance of preserving its broad heritage and unique knowledge.

Considerable increase in sales were recorded in the Unites States of America (still the largest market for Lamborghini) and Asia, with Greater China being the second largest market for the Raging Bull, Japan, UK, Middle East and Germany all increased sales during 2015 … with 135 official dealers in 50 countries Automobili Lamborghini SpA is indeed a global brand these days.

2015 has set a milestone in the history of Lamborghini, for the first time ever the Sant’Agata company managed to sell over 3,000 cars while 2,242 of those are accounted for by the V10 Huracán … over the first 18 months of sales the Huracán has surpassed the Gallardo by no less than 70%, but also the V12 flagship has set new records with 1,003 cars delivered in 2015 … which is already 124% of total sales of the Murciélago during the first 52 months of existence.

We have to admit Lamborghini introduced a lot of new evolutions in 2015 too, which partly accounts for these impressive figures, not only did we get to see the Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce in Geneva in early March, the Superveloce Roadster followed in August when the bright blue V12 flagship was unveiled at the Monterey Car Week in the US, with 600 and 500 units respectively … which were all sold out very quickly by the way.

And a special Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Pirelli edition in a limited palette of shades was created to emphasize the long-term relationship between Lamborghini and Pirelli … first in Coupé form but later the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster Pirelli edition joined the line-up.

And then came the IAA show in Frankfurt were the absolutely breathtaking Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Spyder was unveiled … long awaited by many the orders were already pouring in before the doors opened at the German show … another sales success for Lamborghini, and they hadn’t even finished.

At the end of 2015 the Sant’Agata company surprised us once again by introducing the Huracán LP580-2, a rear wheel drive, entry level Lamborghini … a little less power, but a more aggressive styling and more importantly a totally different feeling behind the wheel.

With prices on the Lamborghini Miura and Countach reaching never before seen heights, and the Diablo quickly following in their footsteps it might be a good idea to step into super car ownership with another V12 model in the history of Automobili Lamborghini SpA … the original Murciélago 6.2 liter model introduced in 2001.

Prices on these Bulls are still reasonable, and being ‘only’ little over ten years old you already enjoy some modern comforts neither of the predecessors could offer apart from the late model Diablo VT 6.0 … still the legendary V12 derived from the very first production Lamborghini, the 350GT, you might say the Murciélago was the last of the original Raging Bulls as the Aventador received a totally new V12 engine.

I know we all like the swansong of the Murciélago production, the aggressive looking LP670-4 Super Veloce of which only 186 were built, but if there is one other car built in the ten year production span of this model that is surely something special it is chassis number ZA9BC10E02LA12026 with engine number L535 033.

A very early production Murciélago, in fact the factory called her the ‘Pre Series 6’, this was the 26th car built … back in September 2001 she was still on the production line with the last units of the Diablo VT 6.0 SE in front of her. Note that this very Murciélago was kept by the factory to become the record beating Bull in early 2002.

On February 16. 2002, between 22:21 and 23:21 this yellow Lamborghini Murciélago would cover 305.041 km (189.543 miles) from a standing start with Giorgio Sanna behind the wheel, at an average speed of 320 km/h, she completed 22 laps on the 12.6 km Nardò Prototipo ring in Puglia … this would be record nr 1, the international one hour speed record for production cars with a non-turbo +6,000 cc engine.

But that was only the start, at the same time this standard, customer car managed to set two more international records, both from a standing start :
100 km were completed with an average speed of 320.023 km/h (198.853 mph) in 18:44.9 minutes
100 miles were completed at an average speed of 320.254 km/h (198.996 mph) in 30:09 minutes.

Even more impressive is the fact these three international records were obtained in less than perfect weather conditions, at the time there was a strong, south eastern wind rushing over the track, without the amazing high-speed stability, the four-wheel drive system and the skillful driving of Sanna this result would have been impossible … and the one hour record included a fuel stop too!

This was a demo car for the factory in Sant’Agata, so maintenance and service were executed right at the factory, there is no better place to get your Lamborghini serviced I guess … after the promotion and demo life was completed for Murciélago 12026 she was sold to a collector in Italy who enjoyed this amazing V12 a lot … by 2015 this very V12 had covered 117,500 km when she was put up for auction by famous RM Sotheby’s during their London event.

Lot 152 was offered on Monday, September 7. 2015 with an estimate between £120,000 and £160,000 … she would change hands after a winning bid of £95,200 (€130,553 or $146,290 at the currency conversion on September 7), so not really reaching her estimate, but still a very nice price for such an important car.

Note that at the same auction in London a 1981 Lamborghini Countach LP400S (chassis 1121296 – engine 1121198), lot 141, came in with an estimate between £245,000 and £315,000 and sold for £263,200 (€361,078 or $404,457), only just above her lower estimate … while a1958 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competirione ‘Tour de France’ by Scaglietti sold for £4,760,000 at the same auction.

This means a piece of recent V12 history from Sant’Agata has been sold for less than $150,000 … but I’m sure this specific car will become much more valuable as time goes by.

Probably the highest price Lamborghini this time was a Miura SV being listed as lot 230 by RM Auctions, chassis number 4942 was built on September 22. 1971, finished in Giallo Miura over a black interior the car was first shipped to Germany, after which it went to Japan for many years. Over time a restoration was executed with a poorly finished orange exterior, which was later redone in the original deep yellow, almost orange … a full leather interior was mounted. With an estimate between $1,800,000 and $ 2,400,000 expectations were high …

RM Auctions lot 230, the 1971 Lamborghini Miura SV sold for $2,090,000 including fees.

Another icon in the history of Automobili Lamborghini SpA was also sold this weekend, this time by Goodman & Company who listed an original 1974 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopa, finished in red over black this rare car was only the sixth ever made in Sant’Agata, with only 150 original LP400 ever made, and many converted into S models (some were later converted back to original, narrow body LP400 mind you) this specific car is a piece of history. The estimate for this car was between $600,000 and $800,000 as a mostly unrestored Bull.

Goodman & Company lot 11, the 1974 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopa sold for $1,870,000.

Third in this list of multi-million dollar Lamborghini sales is another Miura, this time an S trim model, built on March 12. 1969 this Miura S left the factory in a Gially Fly dress over a beige/black interior on her way to Milan. Later on a four year restoration would bring this car back to pristine condition, with modifications such as the split-sump from some of the SV models and a Kevlar clutch … this specific Miura even comes with an additional set of wheels in the wider SV style. Chassis number 3982 with matching engine number 2898 went to auction with an estimate between $1,000,000 and $1,400,000 …

RM Auctions lot 247, the 1969 Lamborghini Miura S sold for $1,265,000

Next up is another Countach, the 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP400S chassis number 1121098 was listed as being the last Series I LP400S delivered to the United States, in fact only one more LP400S Series I was delivered after this one, chassis number 1121100 was a RHD car delivered to the UK. This Countach is part of only 50 units in the Series I model of the S evolution, with the special Campagnolo wheels and low riding height, this Colorado Copper metallic finished car still wears the original factory export plates. Back in 1981 this car was sold for $95,000 … today, after being in storage for most of her life, the odometer shows a mere 864km … this time capsule car went to auction with an estimate between $600,000 and $800,000.

RM Auctions lot 108, the 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP400S Series I sold for $1,012,000.

A true classic Lamborghini was sold by Goodman & Company for well over her initial estimate. We’re looking at a 1966 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 chassis number 0601 that went through a seven year restoration after which she received an original Lamborghini Certificate of Origin … estimated at $575,000 to $650,000 …

Goodman & Company lot 103, the 1966 Lamborghini 400 GT sold for $896,000

RM Auctions also had a very nice 1966 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 Spyder listed at an estimate between $375,000 and $500,000 … finished in a nice blueish silver metallic shade over a grey interior this one of only two conversions done by Jerry Fandytis was chassis number 0577 with engine 0524 making it a very early 400 GT2+2. Although not a factory original GTS (only two 350GTS were ever made) this 4-Liter classic convertible GT sure looks amazing.

In the Fiscal Year 2013 (31.12.2013), Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. improved its key financial figures once more and marked another successful step in its brand history of more than 50 years. With worldwide deliveries to customers increasing from 2,083 to 2,121 units, the Italian super sports car manufacturer improved its sales for the third consecutive year. These sales figures are outperforming the market trends in the super sports car segment.

The turnover shows a solid growth by 8% from 469 million Euro to 508 million Euro. This over-proportional increase compared to deliveries is due to an improved model mix; in 2013, 1,001 units of the top model, the V12 powered Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 were sold. This is a record for V12 powered Lamborghini models and represents a 9% increase from 922 units sold in 2012. Two and a half years after its market introduction the order bank for both Coupé and Roadster still covers the next 12 months’ production. Overall, 2013 was another positive year in terms of profitability.

In its final year of production, the evergreen Lamborghini Gallardo recorded remarkably stable deliveries of 1,120 units following 2012 when 1,161 Gallardo were sold. With 14,022 units sold over its entire lifecycle, this makes the Gallardo the bestselling Lamborghini of all time to date.

“In the year of our 50th anniversary, Lamborghini has delivered a very satisfying performance, confirming the strength of our product and commercial strategy. Today the company is driving towards the future from a very solid economic base. Lamborghini is a global brand, and sales distribution has been well balanced among the three regions: EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) 34%, America 36% and Asia Pacific 30%.This enables the company to respond flexibly to fluctuations in single markets should they occur.

In 2013, the company continued its path of sustainable development: enlarging its facilities and hiring 100 highly qualified professionals in Sant’Agata Bolognese to address both production demand and new projects, with 1,029 employees at the end of the year. As for human resources and ethical commitment Lamborghini has just been awarded two important prizes: the prestigious accolade “Top Employers Italia 2014”, the first Italian car producer to be selected for this award, and the “Ethical Company” award.

The successor of the Gallardo, the new Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 and is currently receiving overwhelming reactions from markets and customers all over the world.
