The Makeover Kit for Your Huracan

DMC’s new kit, the STO Facelift, can be fitted to various Huracan models, including the LP610-4, Evo, or even the Huracan Performante. This kit gives your car the bold looks of the STO and adds some unique features that make it even better than DMC’s previous EVO3 upgrade.

While the STO’s race-like performance is thrilling, it can be hard to handle on regular roads. This is where the STO Facelift kit comes in. It gives your car the sporty look of the STO without making it too hard to drive. Additionally, it also gets the right amount of ground clearance needed for daily driving. Something that Lamborghini could have offered as a factory option for the base models but that would have diluted the exclusivity of the EVO, so DMC remediate that lackluster offering.

DMC’s new kit is made from Prepreg Carbon Fiber, which is strong and light. The kit includes a new front bumper and a redesigned trunk with air channels that direct air from the hood, just like on the real STO. DMC considered constructing a new set of front fenders with vents and side skirts that help with the car’s aerodynamics. The kit even includes a new engine cover with a scoop for better cooling and a big STO-like wing at the back for an aggressive look.

DMC’s kit also changes the back bumper and diffuser to look like the STO’s, but with a neat little touch: DMC’s name laser-etched into the metal. The whole look is completed with some fancy custom wheels made by HRE.

During the two months, the Lamborghini Lounge in Porto Cervo was open, both clients and VIPs were given the opportunity to drive both the Huracán Tecnica and the Huracán STO side by side on the amazing winding roads in Sardinia, so possible clients could experience the difference themselves before deciding which car was the one to sign an order form for, if you would still be able to get on the waiting list for the current V10 model that is, as we all know the successor is just around the corner, and it has already been confirmed the entire production capacity for 2024 has been sold out by now, so perhaps you won’t even be able to order a Huracán anymore by the time you are reading this.

And then we still have the rumor about the Huracán Sterrato that should still be unveiled later this year, a supercar with a raised suspension that should be able to travel over ‘unpaved’ roads of gravel and sand without ripping the expensive carbon-fiber front bumper to pieces, most of us haven’t even seen that car beside the teaser video, and we know for a fact orders have already been signed for that one, but by the time the general public will finally get to see that off-road Huracán in detail the order book might be closed already, which doesn’t really make too much sense if you ask me.

At the time of writing, you had the choice between two models to take for a test drive, the very good-looking Arancio Alberich Huracán STO or the classic Blu Aegir Urus which happens to be the most successful Lamborghini in history in terms of sale numbers, and rumor has it we’ll be seeing a new Urus version at the upcoming Monterey Car Week in August in California, while there is still a Huracán that looks like the Sterrato being test driven too, and what about a Urus Ibrido, we’ve been waiting for that one for a long time now too … only time will tell I guess.

But I did notice something very special in the official photos of the Lamborghini Lounge in Porto Cervo … remember the Lamborghini DNA book? At the time the most expensive book ever, a 309-page book initially unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, at that time the cover was made from Forged Composite, but probably the most impressive tidbit is the fact that the embossed Raging Bull crest on the cover was 24-carat gold plated bronze while they also use hot-stamped lettering using 24-carat gold sheets, back in 2019 the list price was €9,900 … but things have evolved, and now they show the II Edition in Porto Cervo, with a smaller crest on the cover, which is now made from carbon fiber … only 150 units will be printed, on-demand only, and this second edition has been updated content-wise by Antonio Ghini … you can own this extremely luxurious and rare book for just €14,250.

It seems the adrenaline rush of giving a concert in front of thousands of spectators and driving a super sports car is about the same according to Muse, one of the most iconic rock bands of our time, this British band has a passion for Lamborghini, and it’s the members themselves who say that “driving a Lamborghini is like being on stage”. Maybe that’s why the lead singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy and drummer Dom Howard, in advance of their performance at Firenze Rocks on June 17, decided to visit the Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters and drive a Huracán STO on the Modena circuit.

Muse has a real passion for Lamborghini. The band used a Countach in the video for their 2018 track “Something Human”. And in 2019 they had already visited the company headquarters and taken to the track to try out its super sports cars. “It was all very exciting: it’s the same kind of emotion and adrenaline rush we get when performing,” commented Bellamy and Howard at the end of the drive.

And when asked about their favorite models, the answers were unequivocal: “The original Countach, but if we had to choose a model today, it would be the Aventador.” They also had clear ideas about a possible travel itinerary: “If we were to take a road trip, however, we’d choose a Huracán Spyder, and the location might be the American Pacific coast, especially Malibu, or with an STO it could be southern Europe, specifically the Italian coast.” There’s also no doubt about the accompanying music: “As a soundtrack, Jimi Hendrix or Daft Punk would be perfect.”

Muse is Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard and Chris Wolstenholme. Their last album, Simulation Theory, debuted at #1 and marked the band’s sixth straight album to debut in the U.K top spot. Their previous studio album, Drones, went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, the band’s second, in February 2016. Since forming in 1994, Muse have released eight studio albums, selling over 30 million albums worldwide. Their latest album Will of the People is due out on August 26^th. Widely recognized as one of the best live bands in the world, Muse have won numerous music awards including two Grammy Awards, an American Music Award, five MTV Europe Music Awards, two Brit Awards, eleven NME Awards and seven Q Awards, amongst others.

In their lyrics, they often deal with current affairs and politics, and they are acclaimed by audiences for their live performances, which are a veritable concentration of energy and power, very much like a Lamborghini car.

Get a first impression from the official video below for the 2022 edition of the Lamborghini Accademia Neve in Livigno before we take a look at some amazing action shots:

The Lamborghini Accademia Neve is a three-day experience in the Italian Alps on a track covered with snow and ice, during the day you would get temperatures around the freezing point, but at night this would drop to -10°C to create a fresh layer of ice for the next day so you could take that beautiful Sant’Agata supercar into some amazing drifting action, all while being tutored by real-life Squadra Corse instructors.

Lamborghini calls these the ‘Black runs’, a series of challenges behind the wheel of a supercar driving on snow and ice-covered surfaces while spending the night in one of the more luxurious hotels in Livigno and having a great time in the evening at dinner in one of the fine-dining restaurants … Livigno is the place to be for an unforgettable experience.

For the 2022 edition of the Lamborghini Accademia Neve, you couldn’t opt for an Aventador like a few years ago, this time Lamborghini came with a series of Urus, their Super SUV that feels right at home in the snow thanks to her four-wheel drive transmission, and the fun would continue by taking the wheel of a few Lamborghini Huracán EVO models, which as we know not only come with four-wheel drive but also four-wheel steering … and rest assured, these V10s created some very impressive footage during the Accademia.

But I guess the most fun could be had by taking one of the Lamborghini Huracán STO onto the snowy ‘ring’ in Livigno, with a rear-wheel-drive system, the STO is a drift machine in the snow, as long as you know what you are doing, helped by the instructors, you would be having an amazing time drifting this top-of-the-line V10 Lamborghini.

There was even a green Huracán Spyder that joined the fun, sliding and drifting in the snow, covering the occupants in ice-cold debris, which is where Lamborghini’s in-house Cryotherapy comes in handy. Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse drivers receive an intense training session in Sant’Agata during the ‘Drivers’ Lab’ course, in which they take part using the most advanced configurations that allow their posture to be scanned in real life, complete with performance measurement … and a session of Cryotherapy at the end, all while being supervised by a personal trainer.

The design and colors of the cars turned heads as much as the sound, with the tour encompassing the Cairngorms’ own art installations created for travelers on the Snow Roads route: ‘Still’, just outside of Tomintoul, ‘The Watchers’ by Lecht ski resort, and finally ‘Contours’ in the Glenshee Cairnwell pass.

During an overnight stay in the Hauser and Wirth-owned Fife Arms in Braemar, with its own original artworks and antiques numbering more than 15,000, the Lamborghini pilots were transported by Urus in colors such as the Pearl Capsule Arancio Borealis, Giallo Inti, and a Graphite Capsule in matt Grigio Keres, to the Cairngorms Dark Sky Park – the most northerly in Europe – to seek out stars including Cor Tauri. The brightest in the Taurus constellation, Cor Tauri is the moniker adopted by Lamborghini to describe its program towards vehicle electrification and ongoing sustainability.

Remember the original press release color combination on the Huracán STO was Blu Laufey with Arancio California details, and naturally, that version was present on the Fuji Speedway, but she was joined by several other finishes, like the Verde Citrea with Rosso touches, but Lamborghini also offers a decal set to mimic the actual Super Trofeo racecar, and those were present on the grey car for this Asian dynamic launch, now personally I wouldn’t add that option, but a lot of Huracán STO were ordered with these colored dots on the fenders.

On the Huracán STO there is no front hood and fenders as on the normal Huracán EVO, instead, the entire front section tilts upward, hinged at the front, just as it did on the legendary Lamborghini Miura, apart from weight-saving, this also speeds up any work you might have under the front hood, during a track day for instance, and they gave this a really special name … the ‘Cofango’.

The rear wheel arches are wider too compared to the Huracán EVO, and inspiration was taken from the Countach this time with a nice NACA duct on top of the rear fenders, while the aerodynamic shape helps tunnel air onto the large, manually adjustable rear wing with outer stabilization fins. By changing the setting on the rear wing you can change the downforce by 13% it seems, note there is no ALA on the new Huracán STO.

But probably the most anticipated feature on the Huracán STO is that big air intake that pulls in cold air onto the engine from above the roof, people just love that, and the STO comes with that intake that blends into a vertical ‘Shark fin’ on the stunningly designed, new engine cover that boasts a total of ten air vents … keep in mind there are actual air deflectors integrated into this engine cover to regulate the intake of fresh air depending on how hot the engine is running.

By going through the Ad Personam studio, customers can create almost limitless combinations of exterior and interior shades, but that will raise the base price of €249,412 (Europe) or $327,838 (USA) before taxes considerably before the first deliveries have been going on for a few months by the time you are reading this, personally, I love the looks of this Huracán STO, which let’s face, will probably be the swansong for this V10 range as a successor is around the corner in 2023, 2024 at the latest, and it has already been confirmed to be a hybrid, what hasn’t been confirmed yet is the fact if the successor will be a V10 powered hybrid, or perhaps turn to a V8?

I know many owners wouldn’t even consider changing the masterpiece from Sant’Agata, but especially on the V10 models, there are a lot of options when it comes to modifying your personal car, from rather subtle add-ons like a front splitter, a rear wing, or just a set of custom wheels, right up to a complete aero package that effectively replaces many of the factory original parts.

Companies like Liberty Walk are making a killing with low-riding, ultra-wide conversion kits for both the Lamborghini Huracan and Aventador, and while this Hycade design is just a virtual render, I’m sure there are interested owners out there that wouldn’t mind turning their factory original Huracan into this wide, low supercar.

Despite the Huracán STO being a street-legal car, it must be an amazing experience to drive this V10 flagship in her natural habitat, the racetrack, where the naturally aspirated V10 engine could emit its symphony freely into the atmosphere, and thanks to the bespoke Bridgestone Potenza Race tires made just for this Raging Bull, the focus of the STO is performance … and driver emotion.

In the past, we’ve become used to seeing Pirelli tires on these amazing cars from Sant’Agata, but for the Huracán STO, Lamborghini turned to Bridgestone to develop custom Potenza Sport tires to maximize this V10’s traction, handling, control, and extreme overall performance, a key to this is the combination of an asymmetric tread design and the use of the latest state of the art technologies.

Aside from the more road-focused Potenza Sport tire, Bridgestone will also be providing bespoke Potenza Race semi-slick tires as a more track-oriented but still road-homologated version of these tires to bring  “race” technologies to maximize the vehicle’s performance both on and off the track, especially in dry conditions.

If you didn’t put your name on the order list for the Lamborghini Huracán STO by now, you are looking at a waiting period of at least 12 months, and Lamborghini sold out an entire year’s worth of production already by the time you are reading this.

And Lamborghini came in force to Porto Cervo once again, the cars that are available for test drives show just about the entire range you can buy at this time, starting with the best-selling Lamborghini ever, the Super SUV Urus, which sold 15,000 over a period of only 3 years to date, a number unseen in the Sant’Agata history of Lamborghini, with 650 hp and 850 Nm of torque, the Lamborghini Urus can propel itself from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, and it can take five occupants to a top speed of 305 km/h, the Urus not only comes with four-wheel drive but also four-wheel steering and active torque vectoring for the most amazing handling … on any surface.

Another success story in Lamborghini’s history is the V10 Huracán, the successor to the Gallardo (which sold ‘only’ 14,022 units over ten years of production), and a model that has gone through its mid-life facelift with the EVO and EVO RWD evolution, being at the Costa Smeralda, Lamborghini decided to bring the Spyder version for test drives, which suits the sunny conditions better I guess. Both the yellow and the white Huracan EVO Spyder seen on these photos come with the new lightweight sport seats, these are a lot more comfortable than the earlier carbon fiber units, and they seem to be ordered a lot by customers, so it makes sense to have both test cars fitted with this option.

For those that aren’t a fan of open-top driving, the Lamborghini Lounge at Port Cervo also has two Huracan coupe available, one of them being the Huracán EVO Fluo Capsule with its vibrant, albeit matt finished color, the other being the brand new Huracán STO, the street-legal Super Trofeo race car version, straight from the Squadra Corse department with 640 hp (470 kW) and an impressive 565 Nm of torque for an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds … deliveries of this ultimate V10 models are on their way as we speak, and this car is highly anticipated by its clients, with the two-tone paint option we are bound to see some strange combinations for sure, the various photos that have been posted online already show some really nice Huracán STO, and some of which you might think how this got through Ad Personam.

Talking about the Ad Personam Studio, Lamborghini brought along an entire setup for this 600-square-meter Lounge in Porto Cervo this year, usually at the major car shows there is a smaller sample of options available via Ad Personam on display, but for this VIP Lounge they went all the way with a dedicated area showing bodycolor options, samples of leather, Alcantara and stitching garments … and just so you can visualize it all, there is a large display for the virtual configurator so the client can see their new Lamborghini being rendered with their exact specs.

Not only does the Lamborghini Lounge at Porto Cervo come with a very welcoming hospitality area inside, but there is also an exclusive patio behind the Lounge so you can enjoy a glass of Prosecco while contemplating about what options to order on your new Lamborghini, or you can wander around the cars on display in the ‘exhibit area’ … for the complete Lamborghini experience there is even a booth from the Automobili Lamborghini Collection, and if you are anything like me, you will just not be able to leave without taking a souvenir with you … most likely an expensive souvenir.

At this moment there are three Lamborghini VIP Lounges, two permanent ones in New York and in Tokyo, and this temporary one in Porto Cervo, however, in a matter of weeks there will be a fourth one at Monterrey in the USA during Car Week, where we most likely will be seeing the Lamborghini Countach Homage being unveiled, the latest V12 limited edition model that will conclude the Aventador lineage from Sant’Agata.

And that brings us to the final model that will be shown in Porto Cervo, but only from August 8 onward, when the Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae will make her appearance at the Promenade du Port in via Porto Vecchio, where you will be able to admire this ultimate, limited edition of the Lamborghini Aventador with its NA V12 engine, do note that you might need to have an appointment, and the Lamborghini Lounge at Porto Cervo will close its doors on September 5.

Since we are located close to the water at Porto Cervo, there is even a booth showing the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 for those that want to obtain a 19-meter yacht with Lamborghini inspired design, this 63-foot even comes with twin V12 engines, not from Lamborghini, but from MAN Marine, but these propel this stylish yacht to amazing speeds on the water while being seated in Lamborghini style sport seats, holding a steering wheel that could come straight from an Aventador … even the start button for the engines is located underneath a red cover, just like on the Lamborghini cars.

Only 63 units of the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 will be built, each with a base MSRP of €3,000,000 (nearly US $3,600,000 at the current exchange rates), and we recently saw several online publications mentioning UFC champ Conor McGregor took delivery of his Tecnomar for Lamborghini, I’m not sure many of the 63 units are still available, so you might want to inquire about buying one of these Sian inspired yachts if you want to enjoy Lamborghini life on the water.

Cars like the Lotus Emira, the Maserati MC20, and the Aston Martin Valkyrie are taking on the famous hill climb circuit at Goodwood during the Supercar Run, and I was hoping we would be seeing the Aventador Ultimae in action too, but it seems both the grey Coupe and the blue Roadster will be on static display only, which is too bad as this ‘final’ Lamborghini Aventador comes with an impressive 780 hp from the famous NA V12 engine.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae will be the last V12 flagship from Sant’Agata to use the legendary V12 engine as-is, right up to this day Automobili Lamborghini SpA never produced a turbocharged V12 model, nor a V1³2 Hybrid as a production model, the Sián is a limited edition model, the successor to the Aventador will be Lamborghini’s first, official V12 hybrid model when it arrives in late 2022 or early 2023, by 2024 we will also see the Huracán replacement … as a hybrid too.

Talking about the Huracán, they came in numbers to Goodwood, Automobili Lamborghini SpA had several different versions of their V10 success story at Goodwood, their main stand not only showcased the grey finished Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae, but also the stunning Blu Laufey Huracán STO, the street-legal version of their famous Squadra Corse race car, the V10 ‘Super Trofeo Omologata’ on the other hand wasn’t just a static show stopper, a stunning satin blue finished Huracán STO took the honor of the first dynamic sighting of this model in the UK during the famed hill climb.

As if that wasn’t already enough to draw crowds of Lamborghini owners and enthusiasts to Goodwood, Lamborghini Squadra Corse came with not one, but two of their very special cars to the UK, the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO 2 that was only recently unveiled as the new evolution of the race car for the one-make racing championship we all know as the Super Trofeo Series, this track-only V10 is available for €250,000 before taxes and you’ll be able to enter her into the first race of the 2022 season.

And we haven’t even mentioned probably the most impressive Lamborghini at Goodwood Festival of Speed, another track-only special model, limited to only 40 units and not street-legal in any way … the Le Mans racer inspired, SCV12 Essenza, loosely based on the Aventador carbon fiber monocoque chassis, the SCV12 is a testament to what Lamborghini Squadra Corse is capable of creating when they get a black piece of paper and no real regulation to adhere to.

Emanuele Pirro took this first prototype SCV12 ‘up the hill’ in the supercar class, leading the other models Lamborghini brought for this high-speed demonstration during the four days of Goodwood FoS, models like the orange Aventador SVJ Roadster, a green Huracán EVO, the aforementioned satin blue Huracán STO and the satin green Huracán Super Trofeo EVO 2, and naturally the Super SUV from Sant’Agata couldn’t be absent either.

Is Lamborghini trying to set a new lap record on the Nürburgring, just as they did with the Huracán Performante and the Aventador SVJ? We might be getting an announcement about this before the first customer cars get delivered, it would be an amazing feat for Lamborghini to have three models set a lap record on this famous German track, but there is nothing official yet.

If you look closely at the beginning of this video you’ll notice a Lamborghini Urus in somewhat similar livery to this Huracán STO, with a special roof rack … interesting.

Shmee 150 is one of the more popular automotive YouTubers out there, with 2.2 million subscribers, he has access to some of the most interesting super and hypercars out there, car makers invite him to do a review on their new cars, and he has a habit of buying great cars for his own fleet, some he keeps for only a short period in time, others stay on as ‘Shmeemobile’ a lot longer.

Among Tim’s current collection is the famous McLaren Senna, finished in MSO custom two-tone blue, and a dark red metallic Ford GT which he used on a road trip in the United States of America not too long ago … much to the agony of local law enforcement, as he kept his UK license plate on the Ford GT.

He also owns a very impressive Mercedes G63 AMG, which he bought in black, but had color-coded to match the McLaren Senna two-tone blue, as he intends to use the G-Wagon to pull a trailer with the Senna on it to various events and tracks.

Yes, Shmee 150 drives his cars regularly, he even takes them on the legendary Nordschleife – Nürburgring and really pushes these supercars, but while he had several Ferrari, Aston Martin, McLaren, and other makes in his garage earlier, he never had a Lamborghini … yet.

That is about to change this year, as he confirmed his order on the brand new Lamborghini Huracán STO, the second deposit was sent over, and now it’s time to go through the specifications for a late 2021 delivery of the Shmee 150 STO.

In his video on the Huracán STO, he mentions he will probably not go for the presentation livery, but instead create something wild, and bespoke for him, a unique STO in true Shmee 150 style, and that will probably mean he’ll be going through the Ad Personam studio, I for one can’t wait to see what Tim will come up with.

So will he create a Lamborghini Huracan STO to match the McLaren Senna he already owns, so in a two-tone blue livery? But as this is an Italian car, the Tricolore should be used too, perhaps on the rear wing, or the brake calipers. Tim already mentioned the optional wheels in his video, so he is most likely going to opt for those too.

I think it would be amazing if Shmee 150 goes for a blue livery, but combined with clear carbon fiber, that would really suit the rest of his collection of cars, and make his Huracán STO something really special, and bespoke. Usually, he does some wild exterior combinations, but most of his cars come with dark or black wheels, so I think his Lamborghini will receive black wheels too.

On the interior, things are usually a bit more subtle, with touches of color, but for the rest mostly dark again, but on the Lamborghini Huracán STO he might bring a touch of blue onto the seats to match the exterior … just take a look at some of the renders I did … I hope Shmee 150 will be inspired by them.

Just think about it, we’ve seen some rather elaborate kits from Vorsteiner, with their Novara kit, or Novitec with the Torado N-Largo package, or how about the LB-Silhouette WORKS Huracan GT kit, now that one completely transforms a factory standard Huracan into a racecar too … all these kits come with replacement bumpers front and rear, a rear wing, front hood, front fenders and the latter two even with new rear fenders … so creating an STO style aero kit that fits onto the more regular V10 version isn’t so far fetched I think.

Naturally, the real Huracan STO comes with that impressive cofango at the front, and that would be a big change for a tuner to create, but just take a closer look at the renders I made, they show the styling, but with a separate bumper, fenders and front hood, complete with air vents … and why not create a narrow version of the STO bumper that fits onto a Huracan without the wider fenders? That wouldn’t be too difficult either, and that way you can even fit a different front hood that keeps the luggage compartment underneath for practicality.

Same for the rear, sure you can replace the original rear fenders with the wider STO styled ones, and fit a wider rear bumper, this way you can retain the original taillights and small rear wing, but that would probably require a set of spacers for the wheels to fill out those wider wheel arches … or you just fit a narrow STO style rear bumper and keep the original rear fenders.

The rear wing on the real Huracan STO is bolted onto the chassis with struts between the engine cover, and that would require either a new engine cover, and probably extra reinforcements on a normal Huracan, so why not change the design of the struts so the massive rear wing remains, but you fit it onto the more usual rear part of the Huracan … problem solved.

And that bespoke air intake on the real Huracan STO that comes up above the roofline, if you make it a little shorter so that the intake funnel isn’t so far above the roof, I guess you could retain the standard hinge system, even keep the original engine cover and just replace the black louvers with a lightweight intake and vents … this way you would end up with an STO lookalike on a Huracan you already own.

Or get a Huracan with minor front and rear accident damage … I’m sure a tuner could make these STO styled parts and sell them for a price lower than original LP610-4 parts, and this way you could create an STO Spyder even before the factory releases it, if they will ever do a convertible Huracan STO that is.

Naturally, a complete STO style aero kit, front bumper, rear bumper, front fenders, rear fenders, rear wing, front hood, and on a coupe that amazing air intake on the engine cover … that won’t come cheap, but neither is a brand new Huracan STO …

And while this is a relatively easy excercise in a digital world, in real life it might not be as simple … so will Lamborghini be prepared to unveil such a car in the future? I might have to say no to this one. For one there is that amazing confango up front, on the Huracan STO the entire front section, including the fenders, tilts forward on hinges, this facilitates access to anything underneath that cover, it might even safe some weight, but it could also mean the front section of the chassis has been modified to allow this feature.

Just how compatible with a Spyder version that stunning cofango up front is, I honestly don’t know, but things get even more complicated at the rear with that magnificent air intake on the engine cover that peaks above the roof on the Coupe version, on it’s own that shouldn’t be an issue, as the Veneno Roadster already showed us many years ago, just have the scoop inbetween the two seats and buttress behind the headrests.

Even the quick release system, as the Huracan STO engine cover isn’t hinged, isn’t a problem for a car without a roof … the Veneno Roadster didn’t have hinges on her engine cover either … but here comes the problem … the Veneno Roadster didn’t have any kind of roof either, so would this mean Lamborghini won’t be able to fit a roof under the cover on a possible Huracan STO Spyder either?

A fully electric, power operated Spyder roof might not be possible with the air scoop and lift-off engine cover system … but what about a lighter, manual roof? Something like a less insulated, therefore thinner, manually operated roof … now that might be an option I think.

But, in the end, we might never see a Huracan STO as a Spyder, just because the demand for a pure-bred, race track inspired road car without a roof just isn’t there … or perhaps create a new model, a Huracan STO with removeable roof panels similar to the ones on the Aventador Roadster, or even more hard-core … a Targa style roof?

So it’s safe to say the Huracán STO is a beast, and derived from the current, factory official racecar, the Super Trofeo EVO, and the GT3 EVO, but made usable for everyday driving, if you can live with the very small, actually non-existent, luggage space, but let’s not forget this isn’t the first time Lamborghini released a car like this.

Nine years ago, in September 2011, at the IAA in Frankfurt, Germany, Stephan Winkelmann, who will become the CEO of Lamborghini again on December 1st, 2020 after being away for nearly 5 years while Stefano Domenicali was CEO, unveiled a bright red Lamborghini Gallardo STS, or Super Trofeo Stradale … which at that time was something like the streel legal version of the Gallardo Super Trofeo racecar, much like the Huracán STO today.

But there was more, at that same IAA show, but two years later, Lamborghini came up with the Gallardo Squadra Corse, because the Gallardo Super Trofeo race car had an update, which is referred to as the FL2, for FaceLift 2, they created an evolution of that car for the street, the Gallardo Squadra Corse, still 570hp like the STS, but now with the upgraded, triangular intakes on the bumpers.

Back to the Gallardo STS, with a limited production run of only 150 units, and the option of only four shades, the Gallardo STS is a rather rare Bull, finished in either Rosso Mars, Grigio Telesto, or Bianco Monocerus … the latter two being non-metallic shades in case you are wondering, and while I liked the red STS a lot, just about the only visible things taken from the racecar were the large rear wing and the engine cover with quick-release system, making it a two-person job if you wanted to access the V10.

So what about the 2013 Gallardo Squadra Corse then? Now this is a much rarer car, only 50 would be built, with 15 of those reserved for the US market, and there was a catch … while other markets would be able to select from a palette of four different shades (grey, white, red and yellow) all 15 units that would be shipped to dealers in the United States were finished in Giallo Midas, so these are about as rare as it gets in the Gallardo line-up.

So the first official photos of the Gallardo Squadra Corse were published in July 2013, by December 2013 we got to see the first images of the new V10 model, the Huracán, which would be publically unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show … 7 years later, in November 2020 the Huracán STO was introduced … and while initial rumors mentioned this would also become a limited edition model, nothing about production number capping is to be found in the press release.

So will they build as much Huracan STO as orders come in, or will they eventually limit it to 700 units, which is a number that was floating around on the internet before the release, and it seems you can order the STO in any shade you like, with different wheel options, a black or color-coded roof and engine cover … it almost feels like a more expensive, more brutal version of the Huracán that’s on the price list, nothing more.

So I wonder if getting a Huracan STO is the best bet at this moment in time? Right now, I would wholeheartedly say yes, this is a stunning car, it looks amazing straight from the factory, and you can spec it just as you like, even the Ad Personam studio is involved option wise on the Super Trofeo Omologata, and I’m sure the driving experience will be unbelievable with all the goodies from the Huracán EVO underneath a stunningly aggressive body … but what about the future?

Currently, the Huracán STO is listed at about USD 330,000 before taxes, back in 2013 the Gallardo SC was USD260,000, but today both the Gallardo STS and the Gallardo SC are around the $200,000 mark, and with the rarity of these two initial Super Trofeo derivates, I guess their price won’t drop any further, and possibly even increase, while it seems the Huracán STO isn’t limited at all, and if they eventually limit the production we might be looking at 700 or more units.

In the long run, I think the Gallardo Squadra Corse is a much better investment, with the Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale a close second, but today I would also go for the brand new Huracán STO and enjoy it to the fullest, this isn’t a car that deserves to become a garage queen, the Super Trofeo Omologata wants to be driven … driven hard.

• Examining the new Huracán STO, short for Super Trofeo Omologata, reveals that it’s a road-legal version of the Super Trofeo EVO racecar. At first glance, only the headlights, taillights, doors, mirrors, and possibly the air intake in front of the rear wheels seem to be retained from the base Huracán EVO.
• Unlike the regular Huracán EVO, the STO lacks a front hood and fenders. Instead, the entire front section hinges upward like the iconic Lamborghini Miura. This not only saves weight but also facilitates any maintenance during track days, a feature fondly called ‘Cofango.’
• Visibly, the STO sports a pronounced front spoiler lip and a large air intake, accented by a livery bar that bears a slight resemblance to the Huracán EVO. With widened fenders and two massive air vents in front of the windshield, the design is more aggressive. Being 20% lighter than the Performante and made of over 75% carbon fiber, the body employs a new aerospace-derived ‘sandwich’ technique to make the carbon fiber 25% lighter. The Huracán STO’s dry weight is just 1,339 kg, emphasizing weight-saving measures.
• Above the front wheel arches, air vents extract heat from the new CCM-R disks behind magnesium center-lock wheels specific to the STO. Additional air intakes on the undertray and no sliding windows on this street-legal racecar maintain comfort without losing the Lamborghini essence.

Meanwhile, the used 2021 Lamborghini Huracán STO price ranges from $249,000 with 249 miles to $453,396 with 4,806 miles. Additionally, used 2022 Lamborghini Huracán STO prices range from $485,500 with 404 miles to $499,888 with 31 miles. The comprehensive aerodynamic solutions inspired by Squadra Corse racecars maximize aerodynamic performance, the most important are:

Cofango with air ducts, front splitter and louvers

The front bonnet, fenders and the front bumper are comprised of one single component: the ‘cofango’ created by Lamborghini engineers combines the ‘cofano’ (hood) and ‘parafango’ (fender) including the front bumper, inspired by the Lamborghini Miura and more recent Sesto Elemento. It is not only lightweight, but also a timesaving access feature in motorsports.

New air ducts on the front bonnet increase the airflow through the central radiator to improve engine cooling as well as helping generate downforce. The cofango also incorporates a new front splitter, directing airflow to the newly designed underbody of the car and to the rear diffuser.

The cofango is shaped to push the airflow on top of the front fenders, which incorporate louvers to maximize airflow exiting from the wheelhouse, reducing pressure inside and increasing the front downforce. The side profile of the cofango directs airflow around the front wheels, reducing drag.

Rear fender with NACA air intake

A new rear fender derived from the Super Trofeo EVO achieves both reduction of the front area of the car and consequently the drag, while increasing rear downforce and the car’s overall aerodynamic efficiency. A NACA air intake integrated into the STO’s rear fender serves as an engine air intake, with the shortened duct allowing a 30% decrease in static pressure losses.

The revised rear hood design features an integrated air scoop to improve air-cooling at the rear underhood. Dedicated air deflectors, integrated in the rear bonnet’s frame, manage the significant incoming airflow from the snorkel according to the temperature regulation needs of the engine and exhaust outlet.

Shark fin

An integrated ‘shark fin’ on the rear bonnet improves the dynamic abilities of the STO, particularly when cornering: in such conditions the incoming airflow has a yaw angle, and the different pressure levels generated by the two sides of the fin create a positive effect on yaw stability. The fin also helps straighten airflow onto the wing, increasing wing efficiency during cornering.

Adjustable rear wing

A manual, easily adjusted aero set-up of the new rear wing optimizes aerodynamic balance and drag resistance according to track characteristics. A single slotted wing with double airfoil allows the front part of the airfoil to rotate into three positions to enhance rear downforce. By reducing the gap between the front and rear airfoil, compression is increased on the upper side, upping the suction intensity and extension on the bottom of the front airfoil. The aero balance of the car can thus fluctuate by 13%, adapting the STO to different driving styles and conditions.

Brake cooling for the highest performance

New front brake cooling ducts are dedicated to cooling the discs and calipers of the new CCM-R brakes, working in conjunction with the cofango air-louvers that dispel hot air from the front wheelhouses. Additional air intakes including on the underbody, and optimized nolders, are located at the rear.

Aerodynamic result

The Huracán STO achieves the highest level of downforce in its class with the best aero balance for a rear-wheel drive car, with delivery of a superior aerodynamic load a key factor in its enhanced cornering performance. Overall airflow efficiency is improved by 37% and a significant downforce increase of 53% is reached over the Huracán Performante.

Lightweight approach

The Huracán STO uses carbon fiber in more than 75% of its exterior panels, benefiting from complex structures produced as a single component for increased integrity while also reducing weight via less fixing points.

Using its expertise in lightweight technologies, for the rear fender Lamborghini’s R&D department has adopted a carbon fiber ‘sandwich’ technique utilized in the aerospace industry. Thanks to this technology, the Huracán STO uses 25% less carbon fiber material while maintaining the same structural rigidity. At a dry weight of 1,339 kg, the Huracán STO’s weight is reduced by 43 kg compared to the already lightweight Huracán Performante.

The Huracán STO incorporates a windscreen 20% lighter than the Huracán Performante, and features magnesium rims for the highest strength-to-weight ratio, saving further weight over aluminum alloys with the same load factor.

The magnesium rims are fitted with bespoke Bridgestone Potenza tires, available in two versions: one road-focused, the other more track oriented.

The Huracán STO – Lamborghini Squadra Corse at its heart

From the moment, the engine is fired up, every aspect of the Huracán STO, inside and out, stirs the soul of a racing driver. The Huracán STO has at its heart the V10 aspirated engine of the Huracán EVO and Super Trofeo, outputting 640 hp (570 kW) and 565 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. With an increased wheel track, stiffer suspension bushing, specific anti-roll bars and Lamborghini’s MagneRide 2.0, the STO delivers all the emotion of a racecar while providing a comfortable road experience. The engine has been calibrated for a very sporty and responsive racing feel, with a direct pedal-to-throttle feeling and improved engine sound sharpness at high revs. The gearchange speed has been further increased to provide a highly responsive and rapid gearshift.

Lamborghini rear-wheel steering, and a more direct and fixed steering ratio, has been designed for a race environment and a more intimate relationship between driver, car and track: the driver is fully in touch with the asphalt with feedback on the car’s behavior at his fingertips. Every aspect of the STO’s racing heritage and technology enhances its ability to corner faster, maximizing grip on exit: the Huracán STO is confirmation that races are won in corners rather than on straights.

Three new ANIMA driving modes

Three new driving modes exemplify the Huracán STO’s racing spirit, focused on high performance driving environments: STO, Trofeo and Pioggia. The default STO mode is for road driving and fun on curving roads. Every aspect of the Lamborghini Veicolo Dinamica Integrata (LDVI) vehicle dynamics system is optimized for all road conditions and coupled with a road-oriented suspension setting. The fully active ESC can be switched off for maximum driving fun while still supporting the driver.

In Trofeo mode, all systems are optimized for dry asphalt and the fastest lap times on track. The LDVI assures maximum performance through dedicated torque vectoring and performance traction control strategies for both straight sprints, in ESC ON mode, as well for lap timing, in ESC OFF. The new Brake Temperature Monitoring (BTM) estimation algorithm allows the driver to constantly check the braking system’s temperature, and to manage wear of the system during its life cycle.

Pioggia (rain) mode optimizes traction control, torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering and the ABS on wet asphalt. Traction control and the braking system are calibrated to minimize loss of grip and engine torque cut, with the LDVI system employing precise estimation to deliver only the torque needed in wet situations. The torque vectoring reflects the low adhesion conditions and ensures better cornering, while the suspension is calibrated to maximize grip and improve load transfer.

The new CCM-R braking system

The motorsports DNA of the Huracán STO is as evident in its braking system. With Brembo CCM-R brakes drawing on materials expertise from F1 applications to deliver superior durability, the CCM-R discs provide four times higher thermal conductivity than traditional CCB. Stress resistance is 60% higher, with maximum brake power improved by 25% and longitudinal deceleration by 7%. This results in robust braking consistency in all driving conditions: braking feels sporty, can be perfectly modulated, and thus is optimized for track use.

The Huracán STO interior – designed for purpose

The interior of the Huracán STO reflects the lightweight persona of the exterior: extensive use of carbon fiber features throughout the cockpit, including sport seats in full carbon fiber; an Alcantara interior with Lamborghini’s Carbonskin; carpets removed and replaced by floor mats in carbon fiber; and the fully carbon fiber lightweight door panels with a door latch as opener. A rear arch with four-point seatbelts and a newly designed front trunk for helmet storage, underline the Huracán STO’s racing DNA. The rear arch, developed in cooperation with our Technical Partner Akrapovič, is made from high-grade titanium alloys. It is 40% lighter than conventional stainless-steel rear arches.

New Human Machine Interface (HMI) graphics feature on the Huracán’s touch screen, which manages the car’s functions including drive mode indicator, the LDVI system, tire pressures and brake temperatures. A fully connected telemetry system allows pilots driving their Huracán STO on racetracks to monitor and record their performance and to analyze the data via the Lamborghini UNICA app.

Owners of the Huracán STO can fully personalize both the exterior and interior of their race car-on-the-road via a rich Ad Personam personalization program, with limitless paint and trim combinations as well as race-style vinyls. The concept of a personalized livery is inherent in the design of the Huracán STO, just as Huracán Super Trofeo race cars line up in their unique colors and designs on the starting grid. The launch livery of Blu Laufey and Arancio California exemplifies the Huracán STO’s young and sporty racing spirit.

Price and market delivery of the Lamborghini Huracán STO

The first customers will take delivery of the new Lamborghini Huracán STO in spring 2021, with suggested retail prices as follows:
