Cinematic history boasts cars that have become cultural icons. Among them are James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5, Steve McQueen’s Ford Mustang from “Bullitt,” and Doc Brown’s time-traveling DeLorean DMC-12. But one motor that stood out in recent years is the white 1989 Lamborghini Countach from Director Martin Scorsese’s 2013 hit movie “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

The Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary edition, with its ‘Bianco Polo’ white paint and ‘Bianco Countach’ white leather interior, stands as a rarity. The U.S. market received only a few handfuls of these, and the one destroyed in the movie had just 7,000 miles on the clock. Fortunately, the unharmed example will be up for auction on December 8th by the esteemed auction house RM Sotheby’s in New York City.

The Lamborghini Countach was made iconic by Leonardo DiCaprio, who played the role of a morally dubious and risk-taking stockbroker Jordan Belfort in the movie. The Lamborghini Countach symbolizes excessive luxury and hedonism and perfectly reflects the wild lifestyle the film depicts. The scene where a drug-addled Belfort clumsily attempts to drive his prized Italian supercar home is unforgettable to moviegoers and car enthusiasts alike.

A Sacrifice for Authenticity

For this now-infamous scene, the film used two genuine Lamborghinis. One portrayed the moment where Belfort thinks he made it home unscathed, and the second suffered total destruction in a series of collisions.

Director Martin Scorsese used real cars to maintain authenticity, even though these Lamborghinis were incredibly rare and valuable. The decision to trash a super-rare Countach, worth around $700,000 at the time of filming, pained many who knew the car’s actual value.
