During an interview with Giorgio Sanna at the Monza stint of the 2014 Blancpain Super Trofeo championship it quickly became obvious the new Squadra Corse department under the supervision of Max Welti intends to get seriously involved in racing Lamborghini in the very near future.
While we all were expecting renowned Reiter Engineering GmbH to continue their amazing work of converting street Lamborghinis into full bred GT3 race cars it has now become obvious Automobili Lamborghini SpA intends to take matters in their own hand and create a Huracan GT3 race car themselves.
But first things first … Giorgio Sanna confirmed the in-house development of the Huracan Super Trofeo will be the main priority, in fact we might even be seeing the brand new V10 model on the track as soon as 2015 already … while the Gallardo based Super Trofeo race car can still compete in the 2015 season too.
Not all teams that will compete in the 2015 Blancpain Super Trofeo championship will be forced to buy the brand new Huracan race car, they will be allowed to continue driving the Gallardo based car as a cost saving measure.
Keep in mind the Huracan is in fact more powerful than the Gallardo she succeeded, a full two seconds quicker on the Nardo circuit actually … this could mean we’ll be seeing a rather special 2015 season of the Blancpain Super Trofeo … will the teams operating the Huracan model be penalized with additional weight to balance out the performance against the Gallardo … or will there be two ‘series’ … one that will give points to Huracan driving teams only and a second that will have Gallardos compete?
Obviously the details haven’t been published … or even set yet, but if we do see the new V10 Huracan Super Trofeo race car next year already I think it will be a very interesting Blancpain Super Trofeo championship indeed.
So when will a Huracan GT3 come around … it will be created after the Super Trofeo model, so that would be 2016 at the earliest before we’ll be seeing a V10 compete in the Blancpain Endurance Series … when Squadra Corse unleashes a Huracan GT3 onto the scene what will Reiter Engineering offer as competition? Why not an Aventador GT3 … now that would be interesting to say the least, or a privately owned Huracan GT3 specs?
