How would you react if Automobili Lamborghini SpA called you and asked if you would like to drive the new Lamborghini flagship that will only by unveiled to the public months later, more precisely at the 2011 edition of the Geneva Auto Show ?

I for one would have some difficulties to stay in my seat, that’s for sure, and I have no doubts Steve Sutcliffe had a similar reaction, he would have the chance to drive the new Lamborghini Aventador (if that’s the name, it has been registered by Lamborghini anyway) on the high speed track at Nardo, Italy.

No less than three different cars were present during this amazing trial run, the test mule we’ve seen before, a second model with a different rear wing configuration and a brand new, third one that is actually very close to the actual production model … a detail that became clear once seated behind the steering wheel.

This car had a nearly completely interior, and it sure looked amazing, the driving position and the entire interior actually feels even better than the one from the Murciélago this car will replace … one nice detail : there is a ‘Start’ button on the console.

Keep in mind this car has received the brand new engine from Lamborghini, V12, 700 bhp displacing 6.5 Liter … put this in a car with a carbon fiber hub and probably most of the body panels also made of carbon fiber and you get an idea of just how fast this new Lamborghini flagship will be, no specifics on acceleration or top speed are available, but I’m sure the Aventador will outrun the Murciélago LP670-4 SuperVeloce on the open road.

Safe to say the Lamborghini Aventador will be the highlight at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, just as it will leave the competition far behind it once the first units are delivered to their lucky owners. This new car will once again put Lamborghini at the top of the super car market, even in the current economic climate Lamborghini took absolutely no short cuts and developed a car that can take of the reign from the Murciélago as the Raging Bull that will keep Automobili Lamborghini SpA firmly on the exotic car market for the next decade.

I for one am really looking forward to March 2011 to be able to publish the images and complete details on this amazing new car made in Sant’Agata, a car that will proudly continue the heritage of Ferruccio Lamborghini into the next years by being the best possible car made.
